  1. I thought rather that resurrecting the old SC thread, I would start a new one.  Reading about David Moyes prompted me to consider a What If...

So, we are on a 7-match losing streak, one would expect us to put that to bed prior to the Germany, but is there any circumstance you see Clarke walking away after the EURO's?  What has been his greatest accomplishments and talking points to date?

  2. Tremendous recognition for him, I can only think of Andy Robertson's and Scott Mctominay) awards in terms of individual accomplishments in the last decade that come close.  Robertson has twice been voted PFA squad of the year (18/19 and 19/20) and once in the Champions League squad of the Season (21/22) which I would argue is the most impressive, and Scott McTominay was voted on the EUROPA League squad of the season in 20/21.

For Ferguson to receive this award is definitely a career milestone for him and long may He continue to rise.

FWIW - I expect John McGinn to receive a similar award this year in either the Premiership or EUROPA Conference League squads of the Season.

If that match was played like that it makes you wonder what the Gibraltar and Finland games are going to be like. Imagine getting injured and missing the euros a week or so before they begin. Devastated to say the least. How many subs are allowed in friendlies because it is going to be the proverbial conveyer belt of players being replaced. That being the case I can't really see any real advantage in playing them with   the threat of injuries being an obvious huge disadvantage. Realise all countries will be playing warm up games as well but just makes you wonder how we will approach them.

Perhaps (all in caps), Clarke will have a few players he isn't too familiar with to get an opportunity to play to see if they make the final 26. Also players like Hickey and Hanley will get some game time to increase match sharpness. Maybe we experiment with some formations.

  4. As someone mentioned above, match sharpness is a factor for Hickey, possibly Tierney, Paterson, Hanley and Armstrong. Even if all if the above are cleared to play they may not be at their best. Armstrong is the only one who we can handle, as the rest on their day are starters, other than Paterson who is affected by the condition and availability of Hickey. . I think Clarke needs to have a rummage in the toolbox, call up 28-30 for the pro-tournament camp. I need to see if we play our two matches before the final squad nust be declared.

This is what I was looking for, although some of the NO's on here are optimistic

Nice presentation. Is this your file? We can make our own if not and keep it up to date with a link posted on the forum

Eh? Your criticizing Clarke for not trying out new players yet he manages to get Gunn to commit to us and plays him straight away and basically saves us from having to rely on utter dross for probably the next 5+ years.

Lol this place is hard work at times.

As I said with the previous post you are saying this now with hindsight.

Did you want loads of new players brought in for the last 7 games?

I don't remember anyone on here suggesting trying out new guys in the squad.

I didn't, I felt that the guys who had us qualified with 2 games to spare deserved a chance at playing the big nations and showing they can continue our good form. It was only Ferguson and shankland that ppl wanted to be given more chances and they did.

Yes, if Gunn, a player who earlier rejected playing for Scotland had not changed his position, we would likely have not qualified. I cannot be dogmatic about that, but from a pre-injury Gordon to the other keepers, it is a significant drop and not helped by the fact they hardly had any opportunities.  I wouldn't move the needle to the other extreme, but we had chances for larger squads to call lads up and train with them at the very least. The goalkeeper situation served as a warning, IMO to have called up others and look at them up close.  My fear is with only two matches before the EURO's some will be discounted because it's considered too close and guys who are passed it like Cooper might get drafted in, who I think is a waste of a spot and was a waste of a spot in March.

Let’s continue our seven games without a win run.
We might scrape out of the group stage and Clarke will become a national treasure but we could also go another seven games without a win.
Feel sorry for Clarke the way things are looking, but anyone who thinks he played Ferguson and Shankland enough or tried out all his positional options in our last seven games has their head in the sand.

I 100% agree with your comment here.

I thought the issue was very evident when Craig Gordon broke his leg and we had not been giving any of the other's meaningful opportunities, getting Gunn to commit got us out of jail but it highlighted there was a risk with Clarke's MO.  We had friendlies, and other matches where we were comfortable, take the opportunity to give others more game time than the odd 5 minutes here and there.  The recent friendlies were a golden opportunity to try different options in a few 'zero' risk matches.  We all got humbled regardless.

Of all the injuries this is the most important in terms of how the team is set up and who will be in the squad. Others are like for like replacements but KTs role is quite distinctive.

I agree, KT is one my my favorites and makes such a difference. I want to find the actual quote mentioned above

  9. I believe it's unlikely either will get called up but there still is time to have a look.  The MLS season only started in March and our last friendlies would have been great for us to look but not so great for their fitness and pre-season.  I would expect, with our current situation that Clarke is considering them and it's his decision what he does.  Both have a good reputation in the MLS, and though I believe nether really fits our system, I could be wrong however I think they offer something different off the bench. With a 26 man squad and with some gaps I think they deserve to be under consideration.

I imagine all our non-UK based players are watched via tapes rather than in person. Clarke wasn't exactly going over to Italy to watch Ferguson or Saudi Arabia to watch Hendry

Thats a fair comment but both of them are familiar him prior to those moves. Come meet them, develop a relationship. And if schedule permits go watch players like Gazdag fae Hungary.

Not sure flying to the other side of the world to watch two players who haven't been near a squad in years would be a good use of his time.

Two eligible players, in form, when we have gaps appearing because of injuries, with a major tournament this summer... I believe it absolutely is a good use of his time.

I think at this rate its a case of Clarke will have to pick whoever is available and playing at a decent level. Fraser ticks that box easily as does Morgan and gauld.

It's a real bummer losing some of our first picks but I will be excited to see how Morgan or gauld do if they get picked and I have always felt Fraser should be a first team pick anyways although he's fucked himself over the years by not turning up.

Morgan has a record of 25 goals in 53 for red bull, he should be in the squad already.

Just hope Clarke gives him a chance. These injuries are a great chance for Morgan, gauld and Fraser to come in a prove themselves. I even think the injuries could help shankland as we  could be forced to go with 2 up top and I would like to see Adams and shankland form a partnership.

    Morgan's goal yesterday.

Steve Clark should have been there. Morgan and Gauld both starting

When you say the XXXL cheapo doesn’t fit do you mean it’s too big or too small?

That’s always my concern buying stuff online

Too small. About 30% of DH Gate doesnt fit me, when I buy off the rack I buy XXL. If you dont need the biggest like me, order it anyway. I give them to my pal who wears an L and he is fine. Its a bit of a gamble.

  15. I now have an official and unofficially sourced Home jersey.  Here are the side my side comparisons.   My expensive one is XXL....and fits....my XXXL cheap doesn't fit me. That is immediately apparent, as is the shade of yellow on the collar and  the quality of the patch.  Yyou can see a few variations, they appear about the same weight, and the materials feel the same with the exception of the webbed portion at the lower back half because the official one is see through, but to the eye they look the same.  The other thing you will notice is the brightness of the patterned motif - you can see the unofficial one is not as bright, and the shape of the yellow piece under the arm pits is different.  Now I will say if I was wearing my unofficial one, the only thing that would give it away is the patch I firmly believe everything else would go unnoticed .

I still fully expect posts on here calling for Clarke's head for anything from not selecting MLS players Gauld and Morgan or likes of McBurnie and England brigade players. It will happen of that I am sure.

With a potential 26 man squad, and some key players out injured, we all expect the squad full of the best players available. Questions will be asked, and rightfully so when scrutinizing the big decisions. That, for me anyway wouldn't go as far as calling for his sack without thoughtful critique. I do expect Clarke to have a long think about his job post tournament, I hope we do well and its an easy decision to stay and for the majority of fans to want to keep him.
