Wonder if he’ll be in the team today, even amongst the substitutes?

Ideally hope we can play him in these upcoming friendlies, even just 10-15 mins from the bench.

Not even on the bench, which is OK I suppose as messages seem to indicate he will fine but I would prefer to have seen even if he didn't appear on the pitch.

  2. Home Top from 2012-2014.

Second top from Adidas, whereas the one before this was a quick job form a template adapted for us this was the first one properly designed for us. An elaborate saltire on the front seemed to clash with the classic aesthetic on what otherwise might be an all-time favorite, this one isn't one of my fave's.

The top was entirely with us for the Craig Levien days and the EURO 2012 campaign. We were drawn with Spain, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Liechtenstein. Spain were then World Champions and went on to win EURO 2012, but second place would have got us a guaranteed play-off and even if we were the best second place team we would have automatically qualified for the tournament in Poland-Ukraine.

Sadly, we totally fluffed our lines, we began the campaign with a 0-0 draw with Lithuanian and we only got 1 point against who were then our closest rivals for 2nd place Czech Republic.  We finished the campaign 2 points at 5 goals worse off behind the Czech's.

  3. Details on these are pretty scarce.  I believe they were marketed as Leisure tops (this one and a Battenburg variant).  Part of our history, they came out around about Italia 90. I wanted this one as a wee lad, but it was sold out and had to get the other one.

It's a pretty similar squad, with all of the same galacticos in there. The difference in personnel mainly involves mediocre squad players like Fleck and Nisbet.

Unfortunately Hickey is the only real player of quality to come through in the past three years.

The main difference for me is McTominay's role further forward.

We struggled in 2021 and I expect us to struggle again this year.

I believe the big area of improvement is experience. John McGinn and McTominay have improved, this time surely we won't have McTominay in defense, so I think its safe to say our midfield is stronger.  I think I would also say our attack is stronger, Shankland is an improvement over Nisbet, Forrest perhaps in better form I would expect if he gets game time it will be from the bench.  Dykes has regressed, Adams is a coin toss but is he at his optimal fitness? Defense is on par at best, hindered because of injury. Current Keepers, is a step down as a group but is Gunn an improvement over Marshall?  Thats up for debate, I don't know enough to comment.

I also think our tactics, ambition and attitude are improved but how can we handle the higher expectations?  We shall see

  5. I'm listening to the 1:1 Clarke interview discussing his squad call up.  Interesting, he said that he has called up the players who deserve to be there and I don't get impression he means because of form.

I can see how players would respond to this; folks worked hard in the qualification and deserve to experience the fruit of their labor.  On the flip side, I can also see how some are perhaps not the strongest available. Clarke keeping his core  should build team chemistry.

  6. In fitting with today's provisional Euro squad, here is the away jersey that we had in the last Euro's.  We never wore this top in any of our three matches against England, Czech Republic or Croatia.  I have pasted the squad for Euro 2020 for discussion, where are we stronger etc.?

Euro 2020: Billy Gilmour, David Turnbull & Nathan Patterson ...

  7. I believe he would have been an upgrade over a lacking sharpness Jack, although Jack is experienced. I just listened to Clarke's press interview about the 28. He said Jack was fit so maybe Im being harsh but he did say there are many names, he said six, that they will be able to evaluate their fitness - thats too many, so maybe if there are doubts on so many Clarke should have called up more than 28.

  8. Im counting 6 names not fit or match sharp, almost 1/4 of the 26 names and that for me is a big issue thats got me in the sulk. Armstrong likely to be fine, and Doak is there to make an impact but Hanley, Soutar, Cooper and Jack did we need to pick all four? Jack and Cooper, nothing personal but their spots should have gone elsewhere. Conor Barron over Jack and I would have called up into the 28 Liam Lindsey, Josh Doig or Hyam - atleast their fit and playing.

Clarke seems to go on a lot about Cooper being one of the "leaders" behind the scenes who will encourage players and take the younger players under his wing, to the point its like having a extra coach in the set up.

Bring him in as a coach if it's possible. Im maybe over reacting but we've got McKenna as cover for Tierney.

Good looking squad, can't think of anyone who isn't there, but should be.

Kelly to drop out from the goalkeepers.

We have 11 defenders in there, two RBs, two LBs and seven CBs, you have to think that one of the CBs will drop out.

Armstrong and Jack are injury concerns, Id guess that Ferguson being fit would have stopped Jack getting a dubious call up.

No issue with any of the five forward players, hope they all make the plane.

Surely its got to be Liam Cooper who I'm puzzled why he's even there in the 28, and the same for Ryan Jack. We're taking two extra players in the "not fit or match sharp" box which includes Grant Hanley,Ben Doak and Stuart Armstrong and maybe Soutar.

  11. No disrespect to SOD, but if he gets called up into the 26, I will likely have an adverse reaction.  Now, if he gets in the 28 alongside Max Johnston or Danny Armstrong to do a comparison then I can understand the logic there and convince myself nothing to be concerned about. Ralston is a certainty IMO, he's been called up recently and that would be a low risk call up. Clarke knows what he is getting and knows how to counterbalance the weaknesses.  The others, well it's a fantastic opportunity as it was for Hickey and Gilmour last time.  If our right backs are Ralston and SOD in the 28 with no others, it's a missed opportunity for me. I don't even know why SOD is being mentioned, it's like a nothing burger, wasn't Paul McGinn called up more recently than SOD anyway?

  12. Home Top from 2014 until 2016.  This one is a favorite of many, simple design, well made, some tartan, a nice silver badge and a Spider on the back.  You can reach about the Spider and Robert the Bruce in the link below but it's safe to say hiding in a cave was appropriate for our Tournament appearances at that point.

The SOS to Strachan was answered prior to this top and we had some renewed optimism.  Some of you may remember our first look at this top was on display in a Disney store in Florida of all place's weeks or so before its official launch.

Strachan took over mid campaign from Craig Levein for the World Cup campaign in 2014.  That ended poorly but the next campaign for EURO 2016 was far more positive but our years in the Cave were to remain.

The EURO 2016 qualifiers drew us with Germany, Poland, Rep Ireland, Georgia and Gibraltar.  On paper, it seemed doable with a possible play off with a 3rd place finish.  Sadly for us, we were inconsistent dropping too many points and a resolute Irish picked up a very impressive 4 points against the Germans.  Still, we only missed out by 3 points, if we had beaten the Polish at home and had a stronger goal difference it would have been us in the play offs.  Missing out on EURO 2016 was extra painful as England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Rep of Ireland were all there.

Anderson & Barnes left out of the England squad… 👀

Definitely interesting, but between the two of them they only have 1 cap so not sure it's that much of a story, considering what England have available.

  14. It is a massive loss, but I can't imagine any of us are surprised. And I am sure Clarke has been mulling this scenario over for the last month as well.  I reckon Ralston is a certainty, he's been the 2nd deputy so it would be off not to include him at this juncture but who else does he bring in?

  15. Day Seven - Another home top -  Home Jersey we wore to EURO 2020.  We wore this jersey in all three of our matches (England, Czech Republic and Croatia). This one will be long remembered, as it ended our 23 years wait to get to a tournament.

  16. Day Six - Time for another home, and this time from the Italian manufacturer Diadora. I know what many of us are reminded of, the unfortunate miss from Chris Iwelumo.

This top was wore by us in 2008 until 2010, the badge had nice gold stitching. Not a bad top to look at it, although had a strange faux collar. Not many memories come to mind with this one, and none of them good. Looking up the history, I think this one was part of the George Burley days, perhaps our lowest spell after the euphoric "Almost" first spell with Alex McLeish.

  17. Day Five - A classic yellow Umbro, that we had from 1997 until 1999 which we wore to our last World Cup in 1998. Scotland entertained the world in the opening match against Brazil with a plucky 2-1 loss to Brazil.  We wore this top in our second match against Norway, sadly drawing 1-1 which many say we deserved to win.

Craig Burley scored a beauty in the 66th minute. Check it out -

  18. Day Four - Oh, the maroon top.  We only wore it once to an agonizing defeat to Georgia in 2007. Euro 2008 seemed so close, and if memory serves me correctly, we hardly tested an 18-year-old goalkeeper that night.

An odd choice of color, but it did seem to suit Scotland with images of Heather coming to mind, but that gold piping was too much.  It was one of two "Third tops", its Home and Away variant are strong favorites.  An elaborate top that must have cost quite a big to make, but let's move on.
