Its a dialect, even argued that its, its own language, we were taught how to write and speak doric from an early age, so I don’t really get where you are coming from, when i am messaging  friends i will write in doric, its not made up words, thats just ignorance to think such

    Really?

You were taught to write like that in school?

Its pretty much written in doric

I think it’s odd when people try to write in an accent, like that.

    ’Niver’ instead of ‘never.’

    ’Naebody’ instead of ‘nobody.’

    ’Deein’ instead of ‘doing.’

An accent when we speak is usually natural or subconscious, and for many of us, learned at an early age, so not something that we have much control over. Going to the trouble of trying to write (made up) words in an accent is strange though.

His cough is killing him, hes got an inhaler and cocodamols, all 5 of us have been coughing(wife and kids), ####(son) on antibiotics for his lung n throat. Once this is passed naebody will ever Know how bad it's actually been since they're nae deein community testing, “”

What a strange way to write.

I noticed Nicola Sturgeon said that you could go to the supermarket once per day but the UK government said you should go 'infrequently' which appeared to be clarified as being approximately once per week.

Maybe there are just sightly different rules for different parts of the UK? Confusing if this is the case.

I’m not sure why Sturgeon needs to be making statements with regards to specific rules, as that just leads to further confusion, if as in this case, there is some slight discrepancy between what she says and what the U.K. guidelines say.

I got an email last night saying I wasn't to go into work untill advised to do so. This morning I got one saying that the type of business I work for is not on the list of those told to close and I should come into work. I emailed my manager and he said not to bother today but to go in as normal tomorrow. I work for a timber merchant why they are not on the list I don't know. I am really not sure what to do.

    Ian

I could be wrong, but I don’t think that there’s any reason for timber merchants to be working under the current guidelines?

The best performance I have witnessed (I have stated this on the TAMB previously  over the years)

Scotland v Spain (3-1) world cup qualifier November 1984 - quite simply outstanding and we probably would have beaten any team in the world that night- even Jim Bett played a blinder

The thread is asking for performances from the last 10 years.

    Isn't the TAMB social media?

I take your point about fake news but there are different kinds of social media. There's a great deal of valuable info out there from trusted sources that we'd never otherwise know about. Especially international news that British media often miss.

No, I’m pretty sure that an online message board doesn’t count as social media. I could be wrong though.

Also, I don’t think that social media is the correct place to get valuable information. It’s a bit of a ‘Boy who cried wolf’ scenario, as you don’t know what’s genuine or what isn’t. Surely any necessary information can just as easily be found elsewhere, than on social media?

  8. Does the U.K. Government and Nicola Sturgeon’s advice look to be significantly different here?

The U.K. government advice seems to say that people can still go to work if it’s not possible to work from home.

Nicola Sturgeon appeared to say ‘essential work only.’ (Which seems a far more sensible approach, in line with the severity of the rest of the guidelines.)

Have the U.K. government published that part of the advice incorrectly? I’m sure that a lot of people will be a bit confused by that. Sadly, from what we’ve seen over the past week, a lot of people need to be enforced by law to act responsibly, rather than being able to make sensible decisions for themselves.

I would assume that it won’t be long before a list of jobs/sectors which are allowed to continue working is published.

So, when will we find out what work is essential? Don't have a clue what is happening tomorrow.

Maybe I’ll be proved wrong, but I’d have thought that in the vast majority of cases, it would be obvious what work counts as essential and what doesn’t. And also, in many cases, people will need to use their own judgement and defy any bosses who are thinking of their own financial gain, rather than the health of the nation.

This theory is fake news ,fibrosis is not a symptom of coronavirus and being able to hold your breath for 10 secs will not confirm or deny the presence of the virus unfortunately there area lot of "experts" out there and a lot of crap sailing around tinternet

just read the rest of it there is some more fake news in it as well

In a nutshell keep your distance and keep washing your hands

Most of the time I’m glad that I’m not on social media.

In times like these, I would change it to extremely glad/extremely fortunate not to be on social media. The amount of nonsense and incorrect information that must be being spread on Facebook/Twitter/WhatsApp at the moment, is beyond frightening.

Just been sent this. Hopefully this’ll help anyone in this situation.

    https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbill/58-01/0122/amend/coronavirus_daily_cwh_0320rev.14-18.html

I’m not sure what my stance on this is.

I’m someone who’s self-employed, and over the past few days several people - mostly self-employed themselves, or with close family members who are self-employed - have sent me links to a petition about self-employed pay. (A petition started by someone who doesn’t know the difference between the word ‘accept’ and the word ‘except’ by the way, which is a worrying indication of their intelligence levels. If you’re going to start a petition which you think is important enough to gain hundreds of thousands of signatures, at least take the care and time to check the spelling.)

I’m not sure where this demand for or belief of entitlement to close to normal pay comes from. This is an emergency situation. The government only has limited resources. The offer of support equivalent to Universal Credit, if that’s the correct term, seemed fair enough to me. If that’s enough to pay bills and buy food, that seems enough in these extreme times. I don’t expect the government to pay me 80% of my normal wage, to sit at home and do nothing. Some people have to live on Universal Credit for much of their lives.

Am I missing something here? I don’t really get this entitlement to a normal monthly wage in these emergency times. As long as we have enough to buy food, and pay bills, surely that’s all we need? Just to repeat, I say that as someone in exactly that boat, rather than someone looking in from the outside. It all looks a bit greedy to me, to be demanding any more than what is required to live on, in these emergency times.

The six counties away in the Celtic Cup back in 2011.

Beat them 3-0. McArthur accidentally scored from an over-hit cross. Dominated the game and should really have scored more.

    What’s the ‘six counties’?

    Northern Ireland?

Is that some name for it based on which half of the Old Firm you support?

What is difficult to understand? The question was Scotland's best performances or you just being a bell end as usual?

The original poster was looking for a discussion of Scotland performances in the past 10 years weren’t they?

Lets get into some healthy discussion about Scotland's best team and individual performance's of the last 10 years.

    This may help - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland_national_football_team_2000–19_results

I’d be more tempted to get into some healthy discussion about why the word ‘performances’ doesn’t need an apostrophe. However.......

    Spain at home

    Germany away and at home

    Poland away
    Republic of Ireland at home.

    England at home

I suppose that the high point in terms of performance was the Poland away match - although if I remember rightly, one of our defenders should have been sent off for a horror tackle early on, which would surely have totally changed that match. Following that, and all the way through to defeat in Georgia, that was probably the only time in the past decade when I thought ‘we’ve actually got an alright team here.’

Rumour tonight at work is that there is going to be an announcement tomorrow at at 5pm of an immediate 15 day lockdown.  Work for one of the largest manufacturing sites in the country and information like this which is leaked by the union is usually pretty reliable.

    Good one.

    Exactly.

Plenty self employed could see their business go under within weeks with no income. That's not a case of folk readjusting - that's a case of ending up with nothing.

To say we're all in the same boat is utter nonsense and so lacking empathy/understanding of folks circumstances it's beyond belief.

Folk on zero hour contracts aren't in the same boat as somebody employed with the council with a fixed term contract for example who is able to work from home.

    Night and day.

Ok, there are lots of us in the same boat, I should have phrased it as.

I believe JCS was looking for advice and support not a lecture and the bit in bold shows what a hypocrite you are. You called me selfish a couple of days ago, pot, kettle, black.

    What do you mean?

I meant that everybody is having to readjust at the moment, so there is no reason to moan about your own individual situation, because we’re all in the same boat.

I'm in a council house mate, I just think the government are so out of touch it's unreal, 1st they say work from home that's fine if you work in an office most dont, I'm a roofer what should I do,  get people to send their roof to me so I can repair it n now they say people with mortgages will get a reprieve, they obviously think everybody works in an office, has 2.4 children and mortgage. I'd just like to add if that is the way some live then that's fine by me, I just want to know what about me n other people without a mortgage n office job

I believe that the advice was to work from home wherever possible.

Everyone is in the same boat, and has their own concerns/issues that this will cause. We’re all going to have to take whatever sort of hit we can afford on this, and work things out as best we can. I don’t think that there’s any reason to be getting annoyed at this early stage, that won’t help anything. Everything is up in the air at the moment, and we all have our own individual situations to deal with.

Hopefully they can put a decent break in between the semi and the final now, even if they both happen next year.  There's an international weekend in March and one in May, that would be too easy.

I don’t think that they could hold the playoff finals as late as May.

Also, I’d assume that current international dates will no longer be set in stone, as the calendar is completely up in the air at the moment.

I heard that getting discussed on Radio Scotland on the way back from work.
The guy that owns The Garage was on and mentioned the insurance situation. It stinks.

I don’t know how the insurance industry or the economy works, but would insurance companies have enough money to pay out to the entire industry, across the whole country like that? Would it not bust the insurance companies themselves?

There has already been considerable backlash from the hospitality, entertainment and service industry as a result of BJ telling people to avoid pubs, theatres etc but not closing them therefore making it impossible for them to claim for losses through insurance.

A decision that Ive no doubt was shaped by numerous friends in the Insurance industry.

The man is a complete fucking buffoon that can barely string a coherent sentence together, I can't think of anyone worse to be in charge of a crisis like this.

I’m certainly not a Tory supporter or a Boris Johnson supporter, but it’s surely a no-win situation for any British government.

The country will be on its knees, by the time this blows over, and I assume that there’s no way that there’s enough money to bail out every industry.
