Anyone saying Patterson was terrible first half - so was the whole team.

McTominay was a fish out of water at the back the entire match & Hendry was culpable for the first goal although played a big part in the winner.

Patterson was brilliant second half & the attacking outlet he provides means he’s got to be our first pick in crucial games IMO.

Patterson also set up Adams first minute who should have scored

At the opposition byline first minute of the game

He gives us balance regardless of any defensive frailties

Andy Robertson lets too many crosses in btw

I think now that Edouard is gone, Kyogo will be used through the middle. But, you're right, Forrest might not be a guaranteed starter anymore. And, to be honest, I'm not overly fussed. He's had some good performances for Scotland, but I think he's peaked. I hope I'm wrong, and he still turns out to be a good player for us, but I wonder if he's one of the ones that will be getting phased out over the next year or two with Scotland.

Forrests time has come and gone

And it was 2 good performances and 24 bang average or whatever

Move Hendry to the centre and put McTominay at RCB, Tierney LCB. Blistering pace in every defensive position, including the wing backs, Patterson and Robertson. Squeeze Israel high up the pitch, get Gilmour on the ball and give them a right good doing.

Keep Mctominay and mckenna out of the backline,  they are both honking defenders

I really don't understand this sudden vitriol for McKenna. He made one bad tackle after unexpectedly being subbed on at the Euros and suddenly he's a dud?

McKenna has been relatively solid for Scotland and is getting rave reviews at Forest. In my eyes he is the obvious long term successor to Hanley and I'd have no problem with him starting against Israel.

    He's shite

Back 3. Southgate is quite negative in big games.

It's going to be quite a stuffy game. Both teams are happy to sit in and counter.

Looking forward to it… love a final!

Looking forward to England defending and throwing themselves to the deck whenever in opposition third

They changed the rules to allow it to happen, in the first place. Diving has been a part our our game for as long as I can remember, but it's now officially allowed and referees decide what is a "good" dive and what is a "bad" dive. It's why I see football as barely a sport anymore. It's on a par with ice dancing and dressage. Games are decided on the officials deciding how good players are at falling over.

It's equivalent to a guy putting the black ball over pocket when opponents back turned

It was a mistake from the referee. He could have not awarded it then had the VAR ask him to look again on the screen. I think that would have been his best course of action. Easy to say when not caught up in the heat of the moment. As for them celebrating it I used it as a line in the sand moment by saying they now can't ever complain about things when they fall victim to it in future.

    Well aye that's a given

All I can say is in the history of football some decisions go for you, some go against you. Constant cycle. If the commentators, who were quite frankly a disgrace last night, are happy to accept winning like that (Lee Dixon's "I don't care" comment will hopefully follow him around for the remainder of his broadcasting career) then they can't very well turn round and moan about it when they are on the receiving end.

Commiserations to Denmark - a terrific showing in this competition. England were the better team on the night but it was sad that the decisive moment arrived via a mistake from the referee.

It's unfair to couch it as a mistake from the referee

An entire nation is today celebrating a guy cheating having bemoaned another guy cheating for last 35 years

    It really wasn't.

You're right it was to get to a final rather than just a semi

Only level of cheating higher was Klinsmann diving to decide 1990 world cup final

England have had some poor decisions against them in the past, think of the blessed Maradonna and the hand of god. No problem if they felt roughly done by cheating but I don't see any of their press or other media calling out their own team for cheating and not the usual euphamisms. And it's not just Sterling; Grealish and Kane are always looking to do their best Tom Daley impressions.

Sterling cheat tonight was equivalent to Maradona

True. I've been waiting to get into the second round since '74.  The Kirin Cup was a great win but doesn't have quite the same kudos as the World Cup or the Euros

Neither does the 85 rous cup win

I always for sorry for Hungary.   Best team in the early 1950s but very barren since then.

Least theyve got some past glories to hang on to

What gets me is "All these years of hurt", like they're the only ones. Try supporting Scotland, then you know what hurt is really about!!!

    They are the only ones

Of the major European nations with 50 plus mil to choose from who haven't won anything for an enormous amount of time

Spain were the others and smashed that

As soon as England won the u17, 19 and  21 simultaneously there were signs could be about to change

Still hope they fuck it up though of course

    I give up.

Couldn't explain that much more clearly.

Google it, the formation is used all around Europe.

    No need to explain it

    They're all 451's or 541's

    It's a 433 without 3 strikers

Two of your "midfielders"  play closer to the forward than they do to the midfield. They also play wider than they would in a 4321 so they are not behind the striker. Hence 433.

I keep saying our best recent performances were the 4-0 against Albania and the 3-2 against Israel in those two games we played a front three of Fraser,Fletcher and Forrest and I'm sure you will agree they were a lot more entertaining than the dross served up recently.

Croatia beat us playing 433 with Perisic and Vlasic closer to their main striker than they were to the  remainder of he midfield. Having said that Modric was everywhere.

We have far better players now for the three central midfielders and I think, Fraser, Mcginn,Christie,Gauld and Turnbull could all play the forward roles. They can all carry the ball towards the box and they can all deliver short killer passes.

IMO it's better to lose playing to win than to lose playing not to lose.

No one has played with three strikers this century

Fallen far from the days of Black, McGhee and McDougall. Had high hopes for Joe Miller as well. Heck even Steve Cowan or Willie Falconer would be an option up front now.

    Scott booth

    Eoin jess

Just stopped developing youth players as has so many other clubs
