  1. Agree, be good to have a winger in squad.

I had hoped Harvey Barnes would commit to Scotland as he looks really good, maybe with all injuries we have it's worth asking him rather than waiting for him to call.

Other winger option is Fraser but cannot see him getting call up due to pulling out squad previously with non injury.

This one to McTominay has properly deflated it for me. He was absolutely massive for us during qualifying. Especially when we don’t have an out and out goalscoring striker & rely heavily on our midfielders to chip in with goals, then you know you can rely on the likes of McTominay, McGinn to step up and produce a moment of brilliance out of nowhere.
I don’t know if it was a contact injury or if he hyper extended his knee but his recation is a worry as he’s seen here signalling towards the bench to be subbed before the physio does, banging the turf in anger and even struggling to get himself down towards the tunnel. Again just hope it ain’t a really bad one but hard to see any positives from our injury situation just now.

My only hope is that McTominay ended up rolling around holding leg recently v Chelsea and looked like he had done some serious damage, yet he was only out for a couple of weeks. Hoping may be the same scenario.

McTominay’s face gave the impression that it looked a bad one.

So hope it’s not a serious one but the way our luck has been, I’m really struggling to find any good positives on the injury front to make me change my mind 😢

Feel the same. Be so disappointing if after a brilliant qualifying campaign we cannot have a proper crack at this tournament due to a spate of injuries to key men.

Scraping about for some good news: DeZerbi said today that Gilmour is available for tomorrow against Bournemouth. Could be interesting to see him vs Christie as long as they don’t conspire to injure each other…

    Thats good.

Further good news scraping- Hanley on bench for Norwich - first time in ages - and Nisbet came off bench.

    FFS! Mctominay off injured

Any idea if bad? Saw he came on as a sub then got subbed himself.

    You couldnt make this up.

  6. Not Scotland but injury related for an opponent - Shaqiri of Switzerland was subbed in last game for Chicago Fire and expected to be out for few weeks. Not the player he was but seems to still be a starter for Swiss.

I think things really went for us in qualifying in a way that they haven't always done and that may have raised expectations a little higher than usual. Like you say, we have a good team when everyone's available and on form but when we lose a few key players we're pretty average. I'd probably expect Hungary and Switzerland to lose a few players to injury, too, though.

He'll take Jack if he's fit (though he probably won't be) I think Fraser now makes it even if it's at 23. I suspect Hanley may be finished but if he's back and fit, he'll almost certainly start. If it goes to 26, I honestly think Clarke will be racking his brains about who to take. In that case, the inclusion of Conway and Doak wouldn't surprise me.

Agree with all this. I know Clarke has said he wont be approaching any of the potential players with Scottish grannys etc but i wonder now if the goalposts have changed so much with injuries that he may pick up phone and see if any want to commit. The chance to play in the opening game of a major tournament may be a good selling point.

Agree although Doak is still injured and there’s been no word on how he’s been getting on with his recovery. I think if UEFA do increase the squad selection size to 26 then both Ralston & Fraser would have made it even if none of these injuries this week would have happened.

Might also give a chance for the two MLS based players in Gauld & Morgan to get into the squad now.

I seriously cannot remember another nation having this much bad luck injury wise going into a major tournament?

Doak is back training. Liverpool posted some photos on social media few weeks ago.

Have to admit my excitement for the euros has rapidly decreased in the last few weeks with the recent results and injuries starting to mount. There will be more injuries to come before the seasons out to key players I’d be willing to bet. I really thought Ferguson was going to make a big impact and I genuinely thought this was our moment to get out of the group when we qualified but I’d be surprised if we get anything more than 1 point the way things are which will be another disaster - we cannot afford not to get out of the group stages, I believe we possibly hold a record in that respect. Feels like things are hanging by a thread.

Feel similar. I think team maybe peaked last year when we also generally avoided any injuries (we had injuries for last 3 qualifiers but had qualified by then). We are not getting same luck injury wise at moment.

Germany and Hungary looked ominously strong in March games as well, albeit I think any injury to Szoboszlai would knacker Hungary.

Holy fuck...the most mental of mental takes I reckon I've seen on here.

SOD was shite at his 'peak' and now isn't even the best aging right back at Motherwell

im not saying O’Donnell should be in squad in normal circumstances but we have no one else who has played for Scotland at right back and he does have experience in last Euros. Don’t see Clarke taking a punt on Johnson or McCrorie.

Hopefully Hickey does make it and we go with him and Ralston as back up (assuming Patterson is unfortunately goosed as appeared to be on Monday night).

  11. Dont think any chance Fraser will be called up, behaved like a pr1ck too many times. Would like to see a Gauld or Doak (if fit) but cannot see it. Cairney decent but showed zero interest in playing for us.

Think O'Donnell has to come in if Patterson out.

LewisEDI must have posted just before me, so Cairney and Gauld might be possibilities, anyone else?

David Turnbull probably, though he isnt even starting for Cardiff at moment.

Well, of course, it becomes a bigger blow if McGinn and McTominay are out but in itself, it's nowhere near as bad as Robertson, Tierney or Hickey being out. If we lose (or don't get back) any of those three, we'll probably be looking at a group-stage exit.

    Yes agree.

Confirmed as long term knee injury, what a shame for the guy.

  14. 2 minutes ago, BryanBlessed said:

Let's face it, we probably won't be in the latter stages of the Euros and success would be playing four matches. I doubt Ferguson would be starting any of them so, it's a blow, but mainly because he's a high quality replacement for McGinn or McTominay. Hickey not being available is far more worrying.

The above is fine if others stay fit, but McTominay is out at moment and McGinn plays every minute for Villa it seems so risk he could get an injury.

I think its a huge blow, even if Ferguson doesnt start he is an excellent substitute off bench who can create and/or score.

On the Lufthansa website/app, you can search for Manchester - Stuttgart Train Station and it does a package deal of flight to Frankfurt plus high speed train to Stuttgart. The package is actually cheaper than the flight on it's own!

We're doing 22nd - 25th and it came in at £135 return (boked a couple of days ago). Still available at £135 (though depends on what time you fly) if you're able to get yourself to Manchester airport and back (there's direct trains from Edinburgh).

Edited to add you can also do the same deal for Cologne, and similar for Munich.

This sounds a great option, will take a look. Thanks very much.

What about Paris then? I think there are a couple of direct trains a day. Might not be cheap though.

Also Basel-Mulhouse- Freiburg Europort (airport is a shared French, German, Swiss thing) and get the train from there. I had looked at Freiburg as a possible base and accommodation quite cheap.

Or Strasbourg... but don't think flight options will ve good

Cheers, i am using the basel frieburg airport for germany game and there is a flight back first thing tuesday after hungary game so an option for return. Freiburg meant to be nice city i hear.

Did look at Strasbourg too but looks a pretty small airport as you say.

Ill try looking at Paris too, sounds decent option.

  17. What flights are people using to get to this game?

For family reasons I am having to come back after Germany game (which ive already booked) but looking to go back out for Hungary for couple of days.

As expected flights are very expensive. Best found so far is Newcastle to Frankfurt Sat to Mon for £400.

Should have booked up earlier but after watching Scotland fukk up for last 20 years didnt want to jinx us!
