  1. Brilliant achievement from Clarke and the squad, sets us up nicely going into the draw next week and loved his confidence last night in saying 'this group wont need a play-off'

I have been critical of him in the past, mainly after the Euros and the play-off in June, but in the cold light of day, especially in relation to the play-off, we were (and so were Ukraine I may add) shafted a bit with the play-off. I'm convinced had those games been played in March we'd be going to Qatar and so would Ukraine if they had beat us, the Welsh getting 3 months between games was wrong.

The performances this last week have been excellent and showed we can play with a back 4 and dig deep when we need to. As has been mentioned though the change to a 4 has been thrust upon him due to the injuries. The big test comes next year when he has Robbo back fit, how does he deal with that? Will he have the balls to drop him and play KT at left back in a 4? I think a back 3 will work in certain games, away to a top seed for example maybe. Its a great place to be in that's for sure have 2/3 options at each full back position, never mind the depth we have in other areas. 3 games and Billy Gilmour never kicked a ball.

Whilst I think that Ireland's draw last night is a good result for Scotland (time will tell on this), it probably means that Armenia will finish bottom of the group (unless Armenia can do something in Dublin). If Armenia do finish bottom, it could have a big impact on deciding best runner up for Pot 2 status. If they decide to deal with the Russia situation by discounting the results in the "4 team groups" against the bottom placed team, then we are currently on zero points as far as best runner up is concerned.

As things stand Serbia are on 3 points, Iceland are on 3 points, and Montenegro have 1. So we have a bit of catching up to do. There is a good chance that in order to catch the best runner up we would need enough points top actually win our group. If that makes sense? So what we need to aim for is to win our next two home games then we probably need to get at point away to Ukraine. Or we might be hoping for Armenia to take a point off Ireland in Dublin.

I had never thought of the Russia situation with that, was thinking last night that 2 home wins probably leaves us in a good place for best 2nd place, if at worst we loose away to Ukraine, as obviously the best 2nd placed team will be pot 2 for the main qualifiers.

How would Russia being allowed back in affect it (unlikely I know)? I know their games wont be played but would imagine they would slot in as the worst League B side and get relegated.

The article on England on the bbc had this buried about half way down:

The Scottish FA (SFA) says PHE deemed that none of the other Scotland players had to self-isolate as there had been no close contact.

But PHE said there had been no detailed discussions with the SFA.

BBC Scotland Euros Breakfast show said that while no direct discussion with PHE the SFA liaised with the Chief Medical Officer for North East England. They will have had to have provided bus and plane manifests, training footage etc. So based on the fact the 25 others have travelled there clearly the CMO officer is happy.

He been in bubble, with the squad for a good couple of weeks, how's he the only one who's got it. Doesn't make sense

That has baffled me a bit as well. Could have been a hotel staff member? Or were they closer to their families than we thought.

They are on -1 if we win so are we, Most goals scored I would imagine

    Yes sorry just seen that.

Also just realised that Group C goes first tomorrow so Austria and Ukraine cant really take a chance and play out a 0-0, incase a freak Finland result happened.

Turkey have everything to play for, and nothing to lose.

Both teams will know a draw will not be good enough so both have to attack, it will be quite a game.

Exactly, its not that far fetched that they could still go through. All it takes in Finlad and Denmark loosing tomorrow (highly possible) and a draw in our match and they will go through.

  7. With the nature of this tournament we are far from out and need to pick ourselves up. We had 19 shots a goal ffs. That Dykes miss near the end was criminal, the Forrest one 9 times out of 10 it goes in. Big changes needed for Friday though. SOD looked like a rabbit in the headlights and just isn’t good enough at that level. He’ll do ok against the pot 5/6 sides but not in games like yesterday. I’d go with the below on Friday but for Patterson and Gilmour I think Clarke will pick Forrest and McGregor. We need Tierney back

    Gordon

    Patterson
    Hendry
    Hanley
    Tierney
    Robbo

    Gilmour
    McTominay
    McGinn

    Fraser
    Adams

Get running at their defence as Mings isn’t that good and if they play Maguire he’ll not be any where near fit.

I believe Croatia & Czech Republic were the first to sign up to base their teams in Scotland. Presumably because they automatically qualified they were able to get first dibs. I believe the Czechs took the Oriam one. Scotland then took Middlesborough/Darlington. Probably because it has better facilities than the 3rd best available in Scotland.

Croatia & Czech Republic then changed their minds and decided to stay at home after UEFA warned them of what would happen to the squad in Scotland if they had positive cases.

The Edinburgh and St.Andrews facilities will be sitting empty now. Presumably it would be too much hastle for Scotland to change their plans at such short notice.

Plus Middlesborough’s training ground is right across the road from the hotel, all in the same complex.

The only other option I read late last year was staying at Mar Hall and using Murray Park (or whatever its called now) but that meant a drive every day.

    Are people sure about this.

I thought when you registered a lateral flow test you simply got a response acknowledging that you had logged your result. As opposed to confirmation of a negative test.

Are folk sure that you’re not required to have a actual formal test.
Otherwise you could just lie and say your test was negative when it wasn’t.

I do realise that would be a cuntable thing to do, but depends how desperate some folk are to get to the game.

The formal PCR test is only needed if you return a positive lateral flow test.

Its is heavily reliant on folk being very honest.

At moment nothing for Hampden, but just trying to work it out times.

Do you need to take 2 tests across a week, or can you take the one test within 48 hours of the game? Just working out if need to take one on (say) Monday and then a second one on the Thursday (I am flying in the afternoon, and only taking hand luggage, so most likely do the test from home in the morning and register result before heading to airport)

No you just need to take one test with 48 hours before the gates open. So anytime from 5pm on Wednesday 16th.

Yes, that’s possible. I’d normally have Fraser there. He did very little when he came on tonight but it’s good he got minutes into his legs.

If he is fit I’d fancy him for Czech game with Adams as he caused them all sorts of problems in Nations League.

With the performance of Armstrong tonight I’m wondering if McTominay might be put back into defence after all. A midfield three of McGregor, Armstrong and McGinn seems quite likely.

I still think McTominay will be in midfield. For me Hendry looks to have nailed down the right centre half position. I could see Armstrong playing further up the park where Christie was tonight supporting Adams.

More of a worrying thing is that, supposedly, there is a seven day incubation period before symptoms show. Now, of course, at present they are all fine and tested negative but will it ean seven days self-isolation which means they will all miss the Luxembourg game too?

I don't think so as they were all cleared to play tonight but SFA chose an ultra cautious stance on it.

It seems fairly pointless now and also highlights how stupid travelling so much pre tournament is.

Little need for a break in the sun this training could have been done at Oriam, especially after the Czechs pulled out.

I do agree to an extent with all the travelling. Did the Czechs not pull out when we were already in Spain? Its not the travel that's caused the problem though. Fleck is asymptomatic and brought it with him. The 6 players were all tested again this morning and all negative I've read.

  15. Just now, ProudScot said:

Jesus what a howler half the team is ruled out.

You’d think calling off the game and not travelling even more would be a good idea given what’s happened?

The Dutch I believe had the call on that and they were happy to go ahead. The 6 players in question haven't travelled along with Fleck. They could have as they all produced negative tests after being identified as close contacts of Fleck.

In his preview for this game, Tom English on the BBC website claims that Che Adams scored more in the EPL than Timo Werner and the same as Firmino and Jesus! Surely that just isn't true?

Scored more than Werner and same as Firmino and Jesus.
