  1. Certainly, basically I hate nationalism. I hate all the 'them' and 'us' stuff that this referendum has generated. I have friends from all over the UK and just hate the thought of us cutting ourselves off from the rest of Britain. I have always seen the home countries as like four brothers, all with distinct personalities, but with far more in common than differences. We get on each other's nerves, have fierce rivalries, make fun of each other, but, at the end of the day, we would stick up for each other if any of us were threatened. Sad that people want to throw that away. In addition, I don't believe a single word Alex Salmon and Nichola Sturgeon say. I truly believe they are more interested in Scotland becoming independent than Scotland being independent. As Salmond's biographer said, 'It's all about winning with Alex'. They will promise anything to get a Yes vote and have not demonstrated that they have a clear idea of how an independent Scotland would work in practice. It could genuinely be disastrous, and people need to think very carefully before they sign up for such an ill-thought through proposition. And no, I don't believe the statements coming out from the No campaign either but then I don't have to - I have lived in the union for nearly 50 years. I know what it's like. Is rule from Westminster perfect? Absolutely not. There are no end of ways we could improve things but I would rather see us attempt that than go down the independent route.

Not much point cherry-picking the worst points and turning the entire post bold.

  2. March! Seriously, if you're as lucky as I've been the weather can be mild and dry and of course no midges.

Only rained once and that was on arrival then the welcome rainbow appeared. The only downside being the mist covering Neist Point which I've yet to see in full vision.

Big plus is booking fabulous self catering accomodation* at half the price of the spring/summer rates.

  3. "Despite a poor showing in the second TV debate when he was bested by a belligerent Alex Salmond, partly because a feeble moderator lost all control of proceedings, Alistair Darling has done a good job as the leader of the Better Together campaign. He has undermined, even if he has not quite demolished, the economic case for independence, but in these final days he is no longer the most important figure. He speaks convincingly to and for middle-class Scotland, but he does not communicate so persuasively with working-class Labour voters.

The man who can do that, and is doing that, is Gordon Brown. Many in England dont perhaps realise just how respected and highly regarded Brown still is in Scotland. His reputation never sank here as it did in England, and many resented the treatment he was accorded by the London media. He has been campaigning hard and his resurgence has been one of the happiest and most welcome features of this years campaign. His new book, My Scotland, Our Britain, is very good indeed. A couple of months ago he was in splendid form impassioned, witty and humorous when promoting it at the Borders Book Festival where he got a rapturous reception from an audience mostly consisting of Liberal Democrat and Tory voters. Since then he has turned his attention to rallying the Labour Vote and persuading waverers to keep the faith and remain loyal to the Party and the Union."

    Haha surely this is satire?

You'd think wouldn't you. There isn't one line that isn't up for scrutiny.

Written by Allan Massie who last month published a pamphlet 'Nevertheless' setting out his vision of Scotland's future.

Little snippet here arguing his case....

It is, for me, a matter of self-confidence. If you feel the lack of that, you will vote for independence.

If you feel confident of Scotland's ability to remain Scottish and prosper in the Union, you will agree that we are indeed Better Together and vote 'No'.

I am Scottish. Nevertheless, I am also British and value the Union with England, "our sister and ally", as [sir Walter] Scott called her.

Now that's not satire, to me just plain folly.
