This is the key bit for me.

"And it’s about making sure that we have a really strong NHS there to support us when we do get sick.”

The problem is that we just don't have a strong enough NHS. And we all know that is the fault of successive governments under investing in it. If the NHS had been in a position to deal with all the patients that they are going to get, I don't think we would have had a lockdown. They would just have accepted whatever death rate we ended up getting, in order to keep the economy going.

They were quite happy to pump huge amounts of money into the financial system. They are now starting to see the true cost of not investing properly in the NHS.

The NHS or any other health care system can never be ready to have the rate of admissions that a full blow covid epidemic would bring. Even if it did we would have thousands of empty beds, ventilators and sitting for years unused. It's just not practical

He played on Sunday afternoon! He was ruled out by the same night so if his toothache was so bad as you said he would not have been able to play on Sunday afternoon.

He is a professional football player earning a fortune so for a routine toothache he would have had root canal treatment done which wouldn't stop you plating football. The fact that surgery has been required almost certainly suggests he has had a wisdom tooth extracted where he has been nursing along a sore wisdom tooth and waited until the international break to elect to have it done. Not good enough for a Scotland captain.

He said in an interview he had an abscess which had to get cut out if his gum.

  3. At some point someone is going to realise that football only has the money it has because of the magic for the fans. If they kill the magic the money is going to go away.

That applies to international football and also teams throwing cup matches in an effort to come 6th in a league. Fans remember a cup final not the time the corporation made 20% more profit.

    Football is eating itself.

Say there's a half Brazilian half Venezuelan kid who signs his first contract at 16. He's full of confidence and would love to play at a World Cup with Brazil. But he falls off as he ages and never makes it to the level of the Brazil team. Why shouldn't he be allowed to represent Venezuela then if he's eligible? Seems harsh to put that pressure on a kid and ask for unreasonable foresight.

I understand where you are coming from but we will just have to disagree on it.

My thoughts are if he wants to play for Brazil but ends up not being good enough then tough. 99.9% of the world won't get to play for Brazil either and Venezuela shouldn't be treated as a B Team.

Can't help feeling that the last person making the decision is the kid himself, signing a contract wont mean you have suddenly matured to the point of making other decisions, just that you are doing what you are told.

Got to say looking at it now your suggestion is probably as good as all the other methods in place, just think childhood ends later than you.

Thanks for the grown up reply to my childish one. Pretty sure you know what nationality you are!

People have ties to more counties now than in the past so this is going to become more of an issue.

With dembele I think he is eligible to play for 3 countries.

If he chooses to play for England fair enough and good luck to him. If he is good enough it would be a better chance to win trophies and increase his earnings.

If he picks Scotland fantastic and we can all get behind him and get this thread up to 1000 pages.

What I wouldn't want to see happening is him waiting till he is say 20 he finds he isn't going to be a superstar and then "settling" for Scotland.

The current rules are going to lead to the top countries hoovering up all the best international players in the same way big clubs are doing now if players are waiting to see how good an international team they can play for.

16 year olds can get married, join the army etc so I don't think it's a stretch to pick what international football team to tie yourself to.

Yes people can feel they have multiple nationalities but for football I think we need to make a decision for internationals to have a decent future.

What if you identify with more than one nationality?

How is making someone make a decision when they sign a professional contract any different than locking someone in when they play a senior game or should football go the way of some other sports where players can represent multiple countries as a senior player?

  7. Seems like a simple issue to fix for me. First professional contact you sign, have a field for nationality. You need to pick at 16ish. Job done. You don't get to wait to see how good you are before choosing.

I don't understand why drones are more dangerous than birds and there are millions of them flying about.

Birds aren't usually made of metal and have very light delicate bones to allow them to fly. Reports are that the airport drones are big commercial ones too, who knows what it's all about. Doubt it is someone doing it for a laugh because if you heard you could/would get 5 years for it you would stop immediately and hide.

The five-year agreement - reported to be worth up to £100m - will include 48 games per season, as well as the six Premiership play-off ties.

20 mil a season for 54 games is £370k per game.  Doesnt seem like a huge amount to me.

Or to cut it another way average of £1.6 mil per season per team!!!!  In modern football terms that is almost nothing.

  10. Founder teams that can't be relegated for 20 years. What a shocking idea.

The best part about PSG financial doping is watching them getting spanked in the champions League.

I'm already losing interest in the English and European football as it's getting to the point where the players are so good it's not fun to watch. 22 footballing robots not making any mistakes and balancing off to a 0 0 draw doesn't hold a candle to an SPL scrapy game with wild challenges, crazy goals and a big fight at the end. It might not be how it's supposed to be but it's bloody entertaining
