McLeish seemed to single out SOD, Morgan and Russell for praise in the article I read earlier.

The fact that SOD played 180 minutes makes me think McLeish was wanting a right good look at him at RB, which is strange as he wasn't in original squad.

He did come onto a game and I'm not surprised he was nervy to start with given it's easily the biggest games he's played in. Given how sparse our options are, I think he might be in a with a shout of future squads.

I'd also prefer 3 keepers from 3 different clubs that are playing regularly. Gordon, McGregor and McLaughlin would be my 3  too.

McBurnie I like as a player and definitely have in the squad as back up. Same with Russell.

I hope you are right about SOD going to RB, it means we will be going back to our best 4-2-3-1 formation. Perhaps we might see (my personal dream) Tierney and LB and robertson and Left mid, with tierney overlapping now and again

  2. McKenna - Solid enough, did not really do anything spectacular. A solid defend first player so thats what we should expect. Headers and hoof it out. Solid though. Would suit a back 4 in my opinion.

McDonald - I dont remember him doing too much but i felt bad as we played with 2 defensive midfielders for some reason and people expected him to get forward, not his game

McTominay - Not sure what people expected but he did exactly what he normally does, short passes, sits in front of the defence and gets the ball to creative players. Again this issue was we had 3 of these players at home.

McBurnie - Worked hard and ran a lot. very isolated up front, nobody apart from robertson got forward to help him.

Murphy - dont remember him even being on.

    I'd go 3-5-1-1

    Alan McGregor (Hull City)

    Russell Martin (Rangers)  CH
    Scott McKenna (Aberdeen) CH
    Charlie Mulgrew (Blackburn Rovers) Sweeper

    Callum Paterson (Cardiff City) RWB
Andy Robertson (Liverpool).  I would like Barry Douglas to get some game time. LWB

    John McGinn (Hibernian) MID
    Calum McGregor (Celtic) MID
    Scott McTominay (Manchester United) MID

    Stuart Armstrong (Celtic) Number 10

    Oliver McBurnie (Barnsley)  CF

Like the look of this team and formation but....

                                 McLaughlan

                      Martin McKenna  Mulgrew

                        McDonald/McGinn  McTominay

    Paterson                                                      Robertson

                     Armstrong        Cairney

                                McBurnie

I like the idea of 2 ball winning mid players who can pass and are strong. Allowing our front 5 to attack

McLeish has intimated that KT will be his captain so you'd expect him to start every match. That suggests that he is the left CB of a back 3. Hanley could mentor McKenna or maybe leave it to Mulgrew at the risk of having all left-footed centre backs.

Only trouble with a back 3 is that in a 3-5-2 there is no room for wingers like Fraser or Murphy.

I hope hanley says absolutely nothing to mckenna and stays well away from him, or we can expect mckenna to cost us as many goals as hanley

That was when he wasn't getting club football and the return of Mulgrew had more to do with the clean sheets than anything else.

Hanley had one moment to defend against lithuania and he dived in and got beat. 1 moment!!!!! If someone cant defend 1 moment how on earth are they going to defend 2? result = 2-0 down.

We need to move beyond and forget hanley.

Must have watched a different game. He was ok, nothing more. Snodgrass and Anya were more prominent imo.
In truth is was probably our central 3 of Fletch, Cairney and Naismith that left us unable to get a grip on the game.. against Canada.

Tom Cairney got an assist and should have had another with Martin's chance. He never put a pass wrong and everyone was so slow in playing him the ball as it was a friendly. He is our best midfielder

Good performance by Hanley again last night going by reports

Does not matter, Cost us the goal against Lithuania, terrible defending at corners and cost us goals against slovakia and england. Need to forget about Hanley. Its no surprise after he was dropped we have 4 clean sheets in 5.

  8. I think it tells us something totally different. I remember Mcleish loved a sitting mid player in front of the defence - gary caldwell. Also he talked about paterson scoring goals so i cant see him playing right back. Wing back i see. Tierney is not a cb so a back 3 will allow him to get forward with Robertson dropping in.Also Tom Cairney should be one of the first names on the team sheet. Got played against Canada as was our best player.

    I can see

                                               Mcgregor

                                        Martin Mulgrew Tierney

                                                 McDonald

                           Paterson McTominey Armstrong Robertson

                                          Cairney

                                                         Phillips (I know, i know)
