This reminds me a little of a debate we all had a number of years ago where we discussed which of Souttar, McKenna or Hendry were likely to turn into full internationals. Well it turns out it was all 3!

Hopefully the same thing happens with the 3 you've mentioned. CBs almost always take longer to fulfill their potential.

Add Harry Souttar into it too as his career seems to have taken a really weird trajectory and shows how much luck plays a factor too.  When he was loaned out to Fleetwood from Stoke then plumped for Australia was a bit miffed but at best saw him as a Championship plodder so no big deal.

Stoke then went to 3 at the back and he looked really solid plus could spray it about a bit.  Genuinely though despite a decent showing in the WC Stoke fans were happy at getting £15m for him.  The Stoke forum was predominantly take the money and run as it seemed based on a decent season and a bit plus a couple of world cup games.

Leicester were a bit shit in the Premier League in fairness to him but now they seem to be playing 4 at the back he can barely get a sniff.  Pretty mental he's only played 3 times this season for them in the league.

Still think he'd have made our squad for the Euros, and we'd be moaning about his lack of game time, but what a weird trajectory going from Fleetwood, to lavish WC praise then into Leicester purgatory within the space of 4 years.  He's 25 too so his next move will be key although doesn't really matter to us apart from wondering what might have been.  However, he could get a move to a team that plays three at the back and be seen as a massive loss in the next few years.

    Fickle game defo.

I read a piece from a military strategist regarding Iran's initial attack using mainly drones with some cruise and ballistic missiles

The narrative from the MSM is that it was an act of face saving from Iran after Israel took out some of their General Staff

What if however, that attack by Iran was to test Israel's defences so they can prepare for a proper attack ?

Iran is friendly with Russia and it's a baw hair from going tits up

Iran's biggest export markets for crude oil are China $500m and Uzbekistan $5m which adds a further dimension to this shit show.

Not sure about that. According to Al jazeera and a report from the Israelis, hamas didn't know about the festival, it wasn't the target.

Remember hearing at the time and it seemed a bit strange/ stupid:

    Gathering and festivities

Supernova Sukkot Gathering was a weekend-long outdoor trance music festival that began on 6 October 2023[16][17] and was produced by an organizer called Nova[18][8] (also referred to as Tribe of Nova).[19] It was the Israeli edition (pre-festival event) of Universo Paralello, a psytrance festival started 23 years prior in Bahia, Brazil.[17] It took place in the western Negev desert,[8] approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) from the Gaza–Israel barrier, near kibbutz Re'im.[6][18] The line-up included artists well-known in the psytrance scene, such as Astral Projection and Man With No Name.[17] The organizers switched to the site only two days before, after the original location in southern Israel did not work out.[20] Scheduled to coincide with Jewish holidays: the final day of Sukkot (6 October) and Simchat Torah (7 October),[6] the rave was billed as a celebration of "friends, love and infinite freedom".[18] The festival site had three stages, a camping zone, and an area with a bar and food.[6] Attendees described the crowd as mostly consisting of Israelis of ages 20–40 from across the country.[8] Attendance was reported to be 3,500 but figures vary.[21][a] Security guards and police were present at the festival.

Twenty twenty hindsight but that's batshit fucking mental at best.

In this scenario the player would be around Scotland squads from Under-16s onwards and I think folk wouldn't have any issues with them playing for Scotland.

Wasn't what I was meaning mate - say Scotland are top 5 in the world and England are late 20's.  I'm Scottish, played at youth level for Scotland but there are 5-6 left wingers better than me so unlikely to get in the full squad.  I hit 25 and England make a Euros and want to add some depth to their squad in a problem position - qualify through residency, no real affiliation but only chance to play in a major tournament along with boosting the business end of my career.

I can see why players do it to be honest but equally wonder if it's weird looking back once you've retired and think you've pinched someone else spot really.

And those 5 countries supposedly have the best intelligence services on the planet but couldn't stop a few terrorists jumping the fence to commit atrocities in Israel, oh wait I forgot, Israel got a warning from Egypt 3 days prior to October 7th...

Did they not move the location of the festival too just days before the attack from fucking miles away to almost the Gaza border?

  6. Each to their own but we moved down to England really young - both parents are Scottish and Scotland would be my first choice all day.

If in a parallel universe if I wasn't good enough for Scotland and England wanted me would I play for them?  Up until fairly recently I'd have said nae chance but suppose it would depend where you are in your career and if it presented an opportunity to improve your stock in the transfer market.

Luckily a dichotomy I'm unlikely, as a fat middle aged bloke with one good knee, to ever be presented with in reality.

I don't think this team ever recovered from getting knocked out of the World Cup after being 3-0 up against Argentina..

Competively, it has been all downhill since then.

Completely agree too - it took until 3-2 for anyone to bollock anyone else but by the time Kim Little actually did it we'd conceded the peno anyway as think VAR pulled it back from memory.

From there the fallout seemed ridiculous to be honest and even if Kerr was absolutely wankered telling them they should never have lost a 3 goal lead then it doesn't mask what an omni-shambles the subsequent euro qualifying was particularly as the tournament was in England.  It really pisses me off when they moan about the game not growing - they were the ones who blew the opportunity due to the world cup hangover and need to look inward.

Instead a lot of that squad are still on the go and give the impression they believe they're a championship level side whereas by the end of this campaign would be surprised it doesn't become blindingly obvious at least a decade will likely pass since 2019 world cup before we qualify for something again.

The next manager has a bit of a Berti Vogts situation on their hands although hopefully there's a conveyor belt of youth to tap into.

you say it pretty much picks itself but you have put Fraser in there who hasn't been named in a squad for a while?

Also can't see Greg Taylor going if its a squad of 23 and KT and Robbo are fit

To be honest I think he's a shoe-in and more likely KT fills in right side than Taylor getting dropped.

Potentially gonna trigger some people here but I think a good step in terms of equality of fans attitude to the women's game is how realistic and objective we are being about the state of the women's side at the moment.

In times gone by it would have been a focus on happy clapping about how they are playing in Hampden, how it's good that they get on telly for young girls to watch and aspire to do the same etc, which is still great. But the constant hyperbole and sensationalism relative to the standard of play is what I believe puts sensible people off the women's game, driven mostly by the media.

I like that we are being realistic to the team's style and standard of play, particularly under the manager, constructively and not just slandering the whole women's game for the sake of social media point scoring.

My own take on it is that since the highs of the Euros in France and narrowly missing out on the World Cup (albeit a very disappointing performance and result in that play off), the team has indeed regressed based on the bits and pieces I've seen, for all the reasons mentioned above.

    I totally agree.

I got into it probably 10-15 years ago and switched it on to take the piss really then found myself really enjoying it.  Quality wise is was crap but it was a group of women completely part time who were completely tipping their heart n soul into representing Scotland and you could see the progress.  However, now we should be at a point beyond happy clapping crap just because it is the women's team and need to be critical where it is warranted.

The tempo and style we play is crap and we look like we're getting left way behind whilst the lower ranked nations are rapidly catching up.  I genuinely don't get how we're still so reliant on 30+ year olds who really belong in a bygone era when there was nowhere near the level of investment in time and facilities in this.

Hopefully there is some talent coming through the u19s, and grass roots seems to have taken off, but surely there must be more early- mid 20s knocking on the door.

In general terms, unpopular opinion, but I genuinely preferred watching the last women's world cup over the blokes.  It's the same sport played completely differently and I enjoyed it being a bit rougher round the edges and having the surprise of seeing teams like Columbia looking mint whereas the surprise element in the blokes has gone really.

I know I was pessimistic above but there’s still a high chance they’ll get to the final play offs and will likely be playing a team like Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic or Finland. These are all 50/50 ties and we’ll hopefully have Weir, Watson, Thomas and Hanson back who will make a big difference going forward.

Yeah I'd sort of written the whole thing off thinking the final play off was one-leg but looks like it's home and away which improves chances slightly.  Injuries have knackered us but seems widespread issue across the women's game rather than purely ourselves although it being all our best players apart from Cuthbert is a bit mental.

It does mean the whole qualifying process is even more a farce - imagine finishing 3rd in Nations League A and still potentially going out because you have a dodgy game away to a B1-2 side!

The fact it's harder not to get a playoff than qualify for them makes this group a bit bobbins. Hopefully interest will pick up once the next phase is reached.

Yeah the whole format is frankly ludicrous and league B is a farce really.

Would still have hoped for more than 3k but performances haven't warranted it at all.  Think the ladies need to look inwards rather than outwards regarding it stagnating.

I'll be amazed if we qualify for this Euros given the current level of performance, the obvious reliance on the old guard and likely needing beat a League A side away.

Almost 33,000 at the Aviva in Dublin tonight for Ireland v England, yet just 3000 fans were rattling around Hampden (can't be too critical as I didn't even bother to use my SSC freebie).

Whilst others are on an upward trajectory the life has been sucked out of ours.  We usually have a bus from the girls team going and there's usually a scramble for a place on the bus but they couldn't even half fill it this time so had to cancel.

Had a great chance to kick on after qualifying for a couple of tournaments but seem to have fucked it right up and for once don't really blame the SFA maybe apart from being too loyal to Pedro.

  13. There's an element of damned if he does damned if he doesn't but there shouldn't be room for sentiment in this.  If Dykes is having a season where bovine buttocks are confidently twerking mockingly at him in-front of string instrument emporiums as their owners are confident their arses will remain unspanked then he should fall down the pecking order.

For me it should be McBurnie, Adams and then one of Shankland or Dykes.

  14. 8 competitive games without a win and 4 goals in 9 games - get there was league A fixtures but it’s all a bit shit and, more worrying, directionless.

Davidson banging them in on the wing for Glasgow City so we play her through the middle then hook her at halftime for a 35 year old - great man (sic) management that!!

Might in the end be a good point but questions need asking why the majority of the squad are 30+ from a generation where there was less resource and interest?  Surely there must be youngsters coming through and if not why!!

Agree about Fraser - offers us pace and the ability to beat a man. Depressing as it is there were zero wingers with any speed in that squad.

Really scraping the barrel other than Fraser. Who else is there? Not particularly enamoured with the prospect of Burke, Wright, Morgan or Forrest being called up.

My annoyance is we play friendlies and never try anything - the sum total of our experimentation last night was taking a bloke on who's doing mint in Serie A and giving Shankland 15 minutes.

Patterson was having a honker but understandably wanted to keep him on - why not play him right wing second half and have a right back behind him?  Try the same with Robertson and Tierney next friendlies (and hopefully Hickey back) then the wide problem is fixed for 4-5-1 as an option.

Instead we had 5 center midfielders just clogging up space last night.

Why not chuck someone in from the u21s and all?  If they're shit nothing lost but if they have a good game it might help them break through at their club.
