I have a post running just now - 'Alternatives to Trafalgar Square'. I have decided to change my initial opinion but don't know how to edit that original post?? In my initial post I suggest Russell Square along with a few other options. Having listened to lots of opinions and done a bit more research I think Granary Square would be better suited. It is in the same proximity as Russell Square so still easy access for the Tartan Army arriving into Kings X and Euston Stations, still easy direct tube line to Wembley from Euston Square, it has pubs, it has no grass (worry about potential mudbath) and it even has fountains!! The other option is Covent Garden which looks really nice but not so well suited to a mass gathering but great if you want to spend the day in the pub or on a terrace!

ta gathering Alternatives to Trafalgar Square
Chris frae Killie posted a topic in England v Scotland
Re-posting this because a couple of jokers decided to hijack the last post with Harry Potter nonsense.... I am hoping to Rally the troops and while I appreciate that, for many, November is not a favorable time of year to stand outside, there are a lot of us that do enjoy being outdoors in a big crowd having a sing song and mingling with locals. Now Trafalgar square is our traditional home from home when in London for matches against the Auld enemy and I have always gone there and it has been fantastic, however, there is a remembrance day event on in the morning into the early afternoon. I am led to believe that the square (or at least part of it) will be off limits while the stage etc. is cleared up. Also there is likely to be friends and family of fallen servicemen and women who want to pay their respects, therefore in my opinion, it is not a good idea for the Tartan Army to meet there . It would not be appropriate for kilt wearing football fans to be standing about drinking and singing, plus i would imagine the Met Police will not be slow to arrest anybody behaving like that, given the sensitivity of the date and location. Others have suggested Leicester Square, however, there is a Christmas market which, annoyingly, begins on the day of the match! This rules this location out as a mass gathering area. Hyde Park has been touted as a location, I don't have any opinions on this, perhaps someone more in the know could give pluses and minuses..... Buckingham Palace was also touted, however, I am guessing the Met Police might not agree with that!! Russell Square close to Euston and Kings Cross stations was mentioned. The people that mentioned this area also said there were lots of good boozers around here which would be good for a wee heat and pitstop! There will be a lot of fans coming into London at Euston and Kings Cross so this would appear to be the best option..... Euston Square underground gives direct access to Wembley Park station so no buggering about getting there! Although the side are not performing, I am well looking forward to this! It will be my 20th away match although I have not been away as much as I would have liked recently!! Thoughts..............- 62 replies

Further info - I sent and email to the SSC to see if there was any plans afoot to organise an official fanzone. I received a phonecall from Pat at the SSC this morning, she was very helpful and explained to me what has been going on behind the scenes. The short version is that there will be no official fanzone - the MET have vetoed any such event. I guess because they are so stretched already with all the events taking place throughout the city and with all the VIP foreign dignitaries that need to be looked after! I have a topic where I am trying to gauge peoples thought on an alternative mass gathering area to Trafalgar Square and at the moment the feeling is that Russell Square near Kings Cross and Euston stations is a front runner. Please go on to that topic and give your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks. The SSC are going to send out a short note asking us to be respectful on the day. I guess the tone will be suggesting it is not a good idea to go partying in Trafalgar square when there are people paying their respects to the fallen. They have also spoken with some supporters clubs and the message to them has been the same with acceptance on the part of the clubs. When the initial allocation of 7,000 briefs was announced by the FA, the SSC told them that it was a bad idea as there would be up to 20,000 travelling from Scotland, not withstanding the 400,000 ex-pats that live within the London area! Thankfully the FA saw sense and allocated an additional 6,000 tickets! I think a big WELL DONE to the SFA for obtaining the extra tickets that has allowed ALL of the faithful away followers an opportunity to get a ticket along with a few thousand of us who have not managed to get along to any away matches in the recent past! Credit where credit is due!
