This could be a blooming mess for UEFA if Russia get booted.  Sure it might be auto qualification for us, but then who takes our spot in the ploy off as League C winners - Norway, thankfully that game is home advantage already but then they would a random team's instead of us - but come December, Serbia fans have already bought travel, who reimburses that?  Travel insurance MAYBE or your out of pocket, then it likely doesn't just have an impact on League C, but definitely B and maybe even up to A.

UEFA would bottle this and really who can blame them, the only thing that can stop this is issue an advisory before Friday and advise fans that fixtures would be reviewed in late December pending a review from WADA, then you might have law suits from Russia saying where is our day in court, they are presumed guilty.

I cant see UEFA making any ruling against Russia for EURO 2020 but rather the World Cup campaign if this touched football at all.

It explicitly does involve football as that is the seriousness of the ban being considered. Uefa partner with WADA and have to comply.

However just as before Russia will appeal to the CAS and they will re-instate them it’s all very predictable.

Im surprised that they are surprised as he has only started two of the twelve league games this season, while coming on as a sub in another games. He can't be all that great.

I’m surprised that you are surprised that they are surprised. Bari fans were angry when he left for Verona, I’m not talking only about this season.

This will be politically motivated IMHO. Just another front in the all things Russia bad campaign that has been running now for years. I dare say Russia has its fair share of dopers as does every other country.

Compare and contrast with the UK media's relative indifference to...

"Alberto Salazar, the legendary American distance coach who guided Mo Farah to six world titles and four Olympic gold medals, has been sent home from the world championships in Doha following his four-year ban for doping violations."

Are you seriously suggesting that if team GB were caught red handed doctoring athletes blood test results data then the resultant sanctions from WADA would be politically motivated? Absolute nonsense- WADA are just doing what they are supposed to do.

It’s got fuck  to do with politics and more to do with Russia consistently being caught cheating over a number of years.

No chance Russia will be kicked out. None of their players ever test positive in UEFA FIFA competitions.

The CAF who has final say re-instated 5-6 Gold Medals that Russia was originally found to cheat in. Feel the same will happen here.

I agree with you however the specific problem russia have avoiding a ban here is that legally it’s a slam-dunk case. They have been caught red-handed doctoring athletes blood test records.

I cannot see any way out of this for them, even with a CAS appeal. Doctoring test results is as serious as it gets. If the CAS lets them off with this on appeal-it sets a very dangerous precedent and everyone might as well start doping.

Doubt it will happen but even if it did I doubt they’d just promote us to the finals if we finish third.

    We’re not that lucky.

What else would they do? Seen as Russia’s hosting rights would be revoked-it would be the simplest solution to shoehorn in another host.

In any case it looks likely there will be tough sanctions this time.

See Bulgaria beat the Czechs, not the pushovers we were hoping for in the playoffs

I think folk are getting carried away looking at possible final opponents. As it stands we may play Bulgaria or Israel or Romania at home on a Thursday night at hampden and I can’t recall Scotland ever winning any game on a Thursday night if we’re being superstitious about it. Recent Thursday night games that spring to mind? The euro 2016 Poland game? Kazakhstan 3-0? Russia 2-1?

There you have it then, we’re getting pumped out in the semi’s. Ian Crocker can ready all of his most sarcastic fuckery lines ahead  of time for this.

David Union Provan on the other hand..............

Ian Crocker was not fine today. Full of the usual snarky sarcastic comments towards the end “scotland usually do this..” etc Yawn.

He’s spent years taking the piss out of Scotland. He should start showing a bit more respect or he will get himself into trouble.

A tad harsh to describe Luxembourg as one of the worst teams in the world. They are ever-improving and rarely pumped these days (quite right too, they've a fairly big population for a small nation) and bang in the middle of Europe. Malta are another who should be better than what they are. I'd say Estonia, Latvia, and possibly Lithaunia are currently worse than Luxembourg.

Serbia (a bit like Greece) seem to have qualifying campaign about and being absolutely honking or brilliant!

I hope we get Bulgaria in the Playoff. They are in the doldrums right now on and off the pitch - although no doubt we'd find a way to give them their first win a 16 months though in March.

Such an optimistic positive bunch scots are.

  9. 59 minutes ago, Orraloon said:

Luxembourg are currently ranked higher than Cyprus, who we have struggled against home and away. Luxembourg are nowhere near one of the worst teams in international football.

Okay Serbia shipped two goals to world class Luxembourg. Anyway losing two goals at home to Luxembourg is bad.

  10. Serbia shipped two goals at home this evening to one of the worst teams in international football.

Let there be no doubt about it-this is the single best chance scotland will EVER get to qualify for a major tournament ever again. Add in that it’s effectively a home tournament with the carrot of playing England at Wembley.

We are preparing for all of this by fielding our B team in the games leading up to it.🤦🏻‍♂️ Does anyone need ANY more possible evidence that the Scottish players DO NOT GIVE A SHITE about playing for scotland and would rather be on a beach next summer. Absolutely disgraceful.

  11. Naismith every day of the week and twice on Sunday even with a full strength squad.

I’d like to see him & griff up front but that’s probably a pipe dream. We definitely need griff back playing regularly ASAP.

  12. 17 minutes ago, Texas Pete said:

If that was the case nobody from the EPL would play for Scotland again as all clubs would ask for their players not to be selected in case they got injured on international duty. I don’t disagree that Tierney should be in the squad by the way but I do understand why he isn’t. Doesn’t mean I like it.

We don’t have to finish third. We could lose our next two matches and still win the playoffs. I guarantee hardly anyone pulls out of the playoffs squad. A couple of wins would be good for our confidence though.

The reason I say the matches are meaningless is the playoffs are 4 months away. Anything Clarke does with the players over the next 2 weeks will be long forgotten by the time March comes around.

The most important period Clarke will have with the players will be the week or so leading up to the first playoff match.

It’s all very eye opening this though. Put yourself in tierneys position-you’ve just signed for this mega club and you want to impress the hierarchy and make all the right moves. Just imagine the looks he would have got if he told them “actually naw I’m off to play for Scotland “...The pressure these lads aren’t under not to get injured on international duty almost defeats the purpose of the whole fucking thing. They obviously have that at the back of their minds so play within themselves for their country.

  13. 3 hours ago, JECK said:

As someone mentioned it appears big English clubs can bribe players into quitting altogether. In the fullness I could see the big champions league regular clubs breaking away to form their own compettion and as a condition banning their players from international call ups.

It’s absolutely spot on this. It’s clear as day this is happening. There is an elephant in the room here. Come on isn’t it obvious???!

I say we introduce tighter call off rules. We should grade each call off on merit. If it’s an actual injury then fine. However in Tierneys case-he’s clearly fit to play for Arsenal that should be a strike. Three strikes and you’re banned. Permanently.

  14. His lookalike Liam Henderson is way way way overdue a call up.  Absolute joke that a widely highly regarded serie A player is ignored by us. (I live and coach in Italy so I’m well aware that Liam Henderson is rated here).

  15. Okay jury is in on this. Absolutely fucking awful.

The top is bad enough but blue shorts and blue socks that’s not even a traditional scotland kit the lazy bastards haven’t even changed the socks and shorts from the current away strip.

Are we fuck qualifying for anything in that aesthetic shambles which has Fail written all over it. Just disband the SFA ffs they can’t do anything right.

  16. 2 minutes ago, The_Dark_Knight said:

    Hopefully.

We’ll see. To be honest though the Sfa really are a weak willed organisation. They just bend over and accept things far too easily. From poor kit designs even to matchday commentators.

You would think that after more than 15 years of having two very sarcastic Scotland hating commentators in Ian Crocker and Davie Provan the idiots at the sfa would actually wake up and actually request new commentators from sky or change the fucking contract. Ian Crocker insults Scotland in every fucking match I can remember him commentating on.

Absolutely disgraceful that Sky are allowed to do this.

  17. Isn’t the new kit being officially released today? Or did they cancel it because of the leak and negative response? 🤞🏼

I’m also curious as to why from all the other kit templates Scotland have been given that design and who makes those decisions and what are they based on? I’m reserving judgement until I see the full kit but I think the fans need much more input on kit design in future and not some welsh git who works at Adidas.

  18. Decent that he’s explained it and it does make sense given he’s coming back from a serious injury. Let’s not isolate him please and welcome him back with open arms when he’s ready to play again. Also I think we should rotate him and robertson and see who performs better. Robertson has been absolutely awful for scotland these past few games so he shouldn’t get picked on reputation alone.

  19. Scotland have a history of alienating our best players,it’s one of a myriad of reasons why we’re consistently shite.

Richard gough? Duncan Ferguson? Tbh I’d be very careful about this Tierney situation rather than telling him to gtf. We need him.

Its very telling though and indicative of the fact now that it is no longer a secret- Our best EPL players don’t give a flying fuck about playing for scotland. They view it as an irritating injury risk in an already congested epl and European fixture list.

  20. I dont mind it-I’m reserving judgement until Sunday when we see the shorts and socks. It would look good with whiteboard shorts and red and navy socks Imo.

One things certain-scotland always play shite with blue socks as we have been doing recently. Standby for blue socks on Sunday then.

That guy that was on here saying his welsh mate worked for Adidas in designing the kit must have been taking the piss.

Players I hope to see get called up for the next set of games who where not in the last.

Billy Gilmour - As Kenny Miller has said, players of such quality at such a young age need drafted in as early as possible. England done it with Hudson-Odoi, Wales done it with Ampadu. What should be the difference with us? He’s quality.

Fraser Hornby - Same applies about Gilmour. Looks absolutely quality for the U21, of course this is probably not as likely as Gilmour but if he has a good spell in Belgium he gets called up for me.

Mikey Johnston - don’t need much explanation with Mikey, wanted him in since the last set of squads but now he’s really started to come on and play week in week out for Celtic and showing his class it’s time for him to get called up.

Liam Henderson - Plays in Italy. Regular starter for Helles Verona and does a fine job at that in the holding midfield role. Probably even better than all these overhyped EPL players like McTominay, McLean etc.

Lawrence Shankland - Quality Striker, far to good for the Scottish Championship, it’s time we call him up and give him a deserved call up. There’s not much else he can do at the level he’s playing at because he’s banging then in.

Craig Halklett - Class defender. Upgrade on Mulgrew, Bates, Devlin. Should have been called up for the set of games there but ahh well... hopefully Clarke calls him up for the next set.

Leigh Griffiths- No explanation needed. Our Rolls Royce of a player. Game changer. Match winner. Best striker we have by light years. Will be leading the front line for the next set of games.

Kieran Tierney- No explanation needed either. One of the best fullbacks in the world. Will need to be played hopefully at right back. Played 7 games there and he put in a fine job. I’d imagine he’s even more aware there so has improved at the right side with past experience.

John Souttar - Best CB in Scotland without question for me. Lucky we have him. Easy call up when he’s back match fit.

Scott McKenna - Upgrade on Bates and Devlin. Like Soutter only missed the games through injury, he gets back in.

Agree with most of these especially Liam Henderson. I currently live in Italy, speak Italian and am involved in football coaching & he is very highly regarded here amongst fans, players and coaches. Questions are asked here why he isn’t selected. Gilmour is also highly rated by youth players all over the world at the moment-you’d think that one would be a no brainer.

As for CB a fit and healthy Steven Caulker is another no brainer for me. He is starting to take command of his career again after some time off the rails but he’s undoubtedly got ability & is certainly a physical CB that we need to perhaps partner McKenna or Souttar.

So it's been a bit of depressing double header but we should still be optimistic imo. We have to take the positives and look to see what can be done to make us better.

GK - Marshall is a decent goalkeeper and wasn't really to blame for the goals we conceded. He should be good for a few years to come

Rb- o donnell doesn't look good enough for international football. We should be trying to get Ryan Fredericks of West ham in as he would be a massive upgrade.

Cb - McKenna and souttar should be back when fit but are they any better than cooper or mulgrew, personally I would happy keep mulgrew. We really could do with better centre backs, I think when fit Hanley should be given another crack with Scotland. Hopefully Ryan porteous can develop into an international class defender. Sadly though it's a real problem position and unless we see an upcoming centre back break through then we could be fucked for a few years at least. McKenna and souttar are still young but it's hard to judge if they are good enough to step up in class.

Lb - we are well stocked there and the possibility of maybe placing Tierney there and putting Robertson at rb or midfield is a possibility. Robertson has taking a bit of slagging recently but I still believe he's a top full back and we are lucky to have him.

Rw- Forrest doesn't really pull out enough good performances to warrant being first choice, I suppose that could be said of most Scotland players tbf. It would be good if we could see more of the performances that pretty much single handedly won us our play off. I think it's time to give Johnston or Snodgrass a run on the right wing and see if they improve it while keeping Forrest in the loop with the hope of improvement.

Lw - we should persevere with Fraser although we should look to bring in a young winger like Johnston or McLennan for experience. Fraser hasn't exactly been brilliant and I would of hoped for more from him considering how good he's been in the epl.

Cm- we have good options here although you wouldn't think so over the last two games or more. I think we look a better side with Christie or Armstrong starting. I would like to see mctominay keeping his place in the team. This position is strong potentially as we have Turnbull and gilmour coming through as well and the fact that Christie, mctominay and mcginn are all relatively young. We should be making this position of strength work for us more but are not, our midfield on paper should be better than most other countries but we don't seem to getting the best out of it. I hoping Clarke can address this and get the best out what should be our strongest asset.

St - mcburnie doesn't look good enough tbh, thankfully we will have Griffith's back soon or should do. I think we looked a much better side when Griffith's played so I would like to see him get back the spot up front. We should be looking to tempt karlan grant to Scotland as he could be a long term front man and provide short term cover for Griffith's. If Lawrence shankland could move up a level and start scoring goals there then we might be able to get him involved as well. I wouldn't mind Steven fletcher coming back as well.

It's a tough time to be a Scotland fan but I don't think it's all doom and gloom. We need to give Clarke a proper chance to change things. He's got three winnable games to get momentum going for the play offs and that's really what he will be judged on. With Scotland I believe it's a mental problem more than player problem. We have shown glimpses over the years of how well we can play for example away to Albania 4 nil or beating Croatia home and away. Strength in depth is also a problem as when we lose a couple of key players we tend not have a decent back up as shown with the striker position.

We need a shithouse defensive midfielder in ASAP-enter John Fleck.

Shore up that centre defence-it’s embarrassingly bad. halkett from hearts is also an option.

Striking wise- griff back ASAP. A recall for olly Burke. I’d also like to see Callum Paterson up top as he has  impressed with Cardiff whenever called upon and he can play the role.

Johnn McGinn or Kieran Tierney are the standouts for captaincy. KT should have had it in the first place. Was captain against the Netherlands and even though we lost 1-0. It was a underserved loss. The game was crying out for Griffiths but KT put in a find shift. As for McGinn he seems a proper leader. I feel him getting the armband would fix the unsettling in our midfield with who to play and who not to.

I know I’ll get pelters for this but why not Charlie Adam as captain? He’s a shithouse type player like Scott brown he has years of captain experience and he’s actually 6 months younger than brown.

I think this is where Boyd got his criticisms spot on last night. Although he was speaking specifically about Scottish football, his points about robotic, formulaic players were spot on in general football terms. With the possible exception of Christie, all of our midfielders are more or less the same. Maybe McGregor and McTominay have the ability to follow higher levels of tactical instruction, hence their playing with more successful teams, but take them out of those teams and they don't have the ability to influence a game in any noticeable way.

I think Robertson is the same, a very, very effective player in a team where he was signed because he fits the system, but nothing about him is truly outstanding other than perhaps his desire and work-ethic.

For me, top-level football is becoming more and more about systems and structures rather than individual brilliance. Even look at De Bruyne last night - he just does everything consistently well rather than any one thing being particularly outstanding. We need a coach who really gets the tactical side of the game and will pick the players that fit that, rather than trying to get our supposed best players to fit a different system. Liverpool are a great example of this and even Guardiola's teams are similar, filled with players who absolutely understand what is required of them rather than being expected to come up with something out of nothing themselves.

I actually think Clarke will be the man to do that so this certainly isn't a Clarke Out post in case anyone takes it that way.

Nah I’d say de Bruyne is the best passer in world football.
