I agree on Souttar being automatic but Hanley is a big favourite of Clark's as is Porteous. I saw somewhere that Hickey, barring setbacks, should be back in early May so that could be positive. His replacement, Patterson, isn't showing any signs of becoming the player we hoped and it's even slimmer pickings after him.

I doubt Clarke is going to take five forwards. I'm still unsure how Barnes will fit into our team as we don't play with wingers and  it looks like he's rarely played as a centre forward. I suppose he's so good that you can't leave him out but I don't think Clarke would take Barnes and Fraser. I don't really want him to play for us but he's more Scottish than Adams. I'm not sure he'd make our first XI, though.

Dykes is either not being played as a forward or only getting a few minutes at the end of the game for a struggling championship teal. I thought he was poor in the second half of the campaign so his place may be at risk if Barnes declares and is counted as a forward and not an attacking midfielder.

Regarding Patterson, was speaking to a massive Everton fan the fans seem to think that i there is 2 reasons he does not play, if he plays so many games he triggers a payment to Rangers or he does not fit the type of Football Dyche plays,  defensive and boring is what he said and Patterson is not his type of player but they would much rather Patterson plays than Coleman or Young.

  2. Looking at current situations of the squad.

    KEEPERS

Gunn, if fit cannot see him losing No1, regularly plays for Norwich.

Back ups Hearts being key Clark doing well.

Gordon not so much gametime since coming back but may be good to have around squad.

wish MCCrorie had gone on loan or left, Kelly probably if Gordon does not go, cannot think of anyone else.

    DEFENDERS

RB worrying at present Hickeys injury hopefully available, Patterson not playing but would imagine be still part of the squad, not a fan of Ralston, possible Livramento, Gray call ups or Ashby just returning from injury. Max johnstone getting the odd start in Austria.

LB if fit Robertson and Tierney(LB CB),  Taylor as possible back up but again not amazing. Doig is doing well in Italy.

CB Tierney  LCB if fit, Mckenna seems to be getting decent gametime now, Porteus not doing great at Watford it seems, Cooper not playing, Hendry team are struggling in Saudi but not sure of form, Hanley in and out of starting line up since injury oddly McLean playing a lot at Norwich at CB, Cooper hardly plays now, Hyam seems to be getting  back to his best after injury. Souttar is also playing well.

Others Welsh getting a run out at Celtic, Binks in and out at Coventry and Bowat regular in side doing well in the Austrian Prem.

    MIDFIELD

Going to be difficult to choose

Doing well Gilmour, Ferguson Cairney, Mcginn, Armstrong,  Christie and when played further forward Mctominay only worry is Mcgregors form. Jack also hit and miss.

    Wingers

    Fraser finding form at Southampton

Doak will he get any gametime when he returns.

Brown more a winger than striker, think people do not understand his position, seems to be doing well on the wing for Luton.

Is Barnes actually going to be included rumours seemed that he would have if not for injurys.

    Strikers

    Shankland obvious from player.

    Adams back scoring regularly

Dykes not sure what is happening with him

Conway seems hit and miss at the moment.

  3. Northampton fans are claiming that Marc Leonard is the best player to ever play for them, previous loans include dom Calvert-Lewin and Kyle Walker, certainly a big season for him next season be it Brighton or another loan. Apparently been outstanding week in week out in league 1.

  4. Scotland U19s won 4-0 v Latvia, not bad as a number of clubs did not let players attend due to it not being an international break. Alfie Bavidge scored a hatrick and Motinikov.

He would need to declare for us first. Is he interested? I actually hope not because I can’t be bothered with the inevitable meltdown on here. 😂

The rumour last September was he was going to be included in the next squad then but got injured.

Bit of a shame he’s had to drop down to league 1 to get a game but hopefully he’s better off next season for it

Similar with Lewis Fiorini going to league 1 just to get games behind them after having injury problems.

Also just seen Dundee maybe resigning Jon Mccracken on loan from Norwich, had a very good loan in league 2 before getting injured at Accrington Stanley.

I'm not worried too much as of yet but come the march friendlies if our central defender options are not playing anymore than now I'd be getting quite concerned.

      My current summary is

Porteous( reading the Watford forum fans are saying the reason he is being left out is he isn't consistent enough, last season he was a colossus this season he has gone back to the SPL Porteous, he looks a great defender at times but occasional rash tackles, poor positioning & the odd terrible pass have returned to his game.  Also read the Udinese rumour is just that as they have their full quota of non EU players )

Hanley( fit again & a good 2nd half of the season will probably see him make the squad)

    Tierney( injured per norm😪)

Souttar( more out than in the team though let's hope Saturdays impressive performance will lead to him having the chance of establishing himself as a regular starter)

McKenna ( His contractual issue desperately needs solved one way or another as he needs to be playing coming into his peak years )

Cooper( not likely to ever be a regular starting at Leeds again but probably happy to stay due to having long term ties & being club captain . As a consequence he may well have excepted his chances of going to Germany are very slim)

Hendry ( personally never been a fan but he is at least a regular starter for his club)

Quansah(  Not seen the lad kick a ball but the Liverpool fans raving about him, heard he is a mix of Alan Hansen & VVD, that'd do for me!  Before I start getting abused it's a tongue in cheek shout as  this grannie eligible Englishman has played at every level for England & has never even been approached by Scotland as far as I know so calm down boys it sadly won't be happening🤣)

Think Dominic Hyam or anyone else would only have a chance if their was a injury & form crisis but I do think Kenny McLean's apparent ability to play in defence does potentially free up space to risk taking one less central defender & leave space for another attacking preferable wide player.

Only KT is automatic for me, the rest are much of a muchness, form should be the deciding factor but like most I expect Hendry & Porteous if they stay relatively regular in their teams will go .

So it's probably 2 from Hanley, McKenna & Souttar. Much as I like Hanley the other 2 are both better on the ball & younger so if they are playing regularly I'd like to see them selected.

Injury dependent players that may get a look in

Ibane Bowat having a successful season on loan in the Austrian premiership, and solid in the Scotland U21s.

Luis Binks playing well at Coventry.

Michael Rose or Liam lindsay maybe.
