  1. Whatever can everyone just not get on, I am absolutely buzzing for this game. Quietly confident but it will be a hard tense 90 mins. Lets sing like never b4

I'm abit overly excited, the derby factor is just making me so nervy about this one.

  2. You had no problem posting it on a public forum before and called us "dirty skirt wearers" into the bargain. You are also in the perfect place to put the matter to Scotland supporters.

Ignore him mate he made it up for attention seeking purposes.

He also changed his story twice.

First it was one guy and just him being the recipient.

Then it was a whole group of them and he, his wife and kids being the recipient.

He also admitted he "can't stand" us Scots for other non specific reasons. This guy is lying. I know our supporters and we are not sectarian. He also claimed that there was widespread bigotry amongst our support when we played in Dublin back in 2011.

    He's talking utter bollocks.

ET you may love the lick arsing that goes on towards you on YBIG. Normally you make well structured arguements, but you are talking absolute shite in this case. If I changed my story from me being the sole recipent please find the comment and post it here.

If you want to discuss this properly, message me. If you want to act the big man on a forum so that you can keep your "top man" poster status on here,so be it.

  3. Surprised to hear that mate, ive never come across it at Scotland games. we had a great time in Dublin at that game. Dicks in every crowd though. Don't think we are all like that.

ET suggests that I am lying because at first I said it was a guy in a Kenny Miller jersey and then when I said he was with mates he decided that I was lying. I assumed he would know that the person who said these things was with mates, because lets be honest, who goes to an away game on their own?

  4. What about Scotland and us Scots ?

Aren't you the same poster over on YBIG called "IlikeToffees" who in a exchange with me, made a ridiculous claim of having been the victim of sectarian abuse by us "dirty skirt wearers" in 2011 during the Dublin tournament ?

You claimed at first that it was solely "a lad in a Kenny Miller jersey" but then claimed later on that he had mates with him ?

Yes, I certainly was a victim of such abuse, as was my dad, uncle, cousins and brothers. It opened my eyes to the fact that not all, in fact most Scots are not our "Celtic (the warrior ,not team) Brothers". You implied that I lied and that it didn't happen. I don't know what I would seek to gain from lying. However I would prefer if you were to message me privately to discuss this if you wish.

Yes you're correct. But the 'Brits' take so much stick from the Irish, you'd think being the Southern Irish national team you'd actually assemble a squad of Southern Irishmen and not the Brits, imagine having an Irish squad where only 55 percent of them were Irish, makes a mockery of it no? And also when you slag us off for being Brits remember 45 percent of your team are the same ;)

Brits don't take any stick from me, I quite like the English, however I am not very fond of certain Brits, e.g loyalists(the parading, union jack waving ones).

My Mother and Father lived in England for 10 years, I have English cousins.

I have visited England and Wales many times, and always enjoy it. I have always been under the impression that the Scots hated the English more than us. I don't care who represents Ireland, aslong as they give 100 percent, and of the guys in the squad, they so far have given 100 percent.

I think you are just a little Butt-hurt over James and Aiden turning their backs on Scotland, which is understandable, however this happened a long time ago and needs to be forgotten.

  6. Aye but it helps when you can call up anyone who's had a pint of Guinness in their life, how many Brits are in

your squad again? 12 is it? ?[/quote

    ]

Theres 23 Brits in your squad. Are yoy actually suggesting that the Germany result came from Ireland fielding English and Scottish Born Irish men? Sequence of the goal was Hoolahan to Hendrick to O'Shea, nothing Brittish about that goal.

  7. betsy you can look at both sides and see reasons for confidence and reasons to worry.

For us the worry is dealing with the pressure which is on us as the home team to win whilst a draw would be deemed a decent result for yourselves so it could be said we have more to lose. On the other hand Ireland (and I am not saying your lucky) have rode their luck in this campaign to great effect and you feel at some point you are due a kick in the naddas so to speak and it could be tomorrow night.

You make your own luck, we didn't deserve to lose to Germany, and deserved to beat Georgia.

Germany had far more clear cut chances than they did vs Ireland. And would also like to point out that we managed a result vs Germany without Coleman and McCarthy.

  8. Err we may not have qualified for a major tournament for years but we have beaten teams of the calibre of France (twice) and Croatia (twice) to name a few in recent times and that was with the likes of Scott Brown, Craig Gordon, Darren Fletcher, Shaun Maloney, Steve Naismith, Alan Hutton, Steve Whittaker, Ikechi Anya, Steve Fletcher, James Morrison and others in this current squad.

Wow you beat Croatia when you were already out of the running. Pressure was off Scotland, this time pressure is on Scotland, your medias comments have not made the task any easier. Seen someone on another thread saying that this was "an imensely talented group of players". Some perspective please. I think you lads are setting yourselfs up for a massive fall.

  9. Oh aye, because you have more Premier League players than us then you must be better :lol:

No not just because of that. Because we have Expierienced players like O'Shea and Keane who have gotten results in far more hostile atmospheres against far better teams than Scotland. O'Shea and Keane are the spine, and our other players like Coleman,McGeady are very talented players then McClean,Long, Brady, etc are decent too.

  10. Yes, agreed. Wind it in a bit guys.

I'm not comfortable with this over confidence and hope that it's just a bit of a 'wind up' on the part of those making it. The reality is that we probably do have the stronger squad, but, although we seem to be on the 'slag off McGeady' mission, we would have to admit that he would have been a certain starter for us if he had opted for Scotland. He will be the top 'flair' player on the pitch and the most likely to do something different and create something or score a 'wonder' goal. Let's hope he has an off night, as he often does, in which case I think we will win, but let's not get carried away until the 90 minutes are up, and show a bit of respect to Ireland, as we would want them to do to us.

Agree with all of that except, you had to get the little jibe about having a stronger squad in. But you actually dont have a stronger squad.

  11. No it is a really good thing that he is out.

McCarthy is brilliant - but I am biased.

Anyone who watched Everton on Sunday will tell you that it was a genuine injury, anyway its all set up nicely for us now, Aidan winner in glasgow, james in dublin.

  12.

    Yes you did

I didn't though, I just said Hendrick is a good young player, which he is. Changed the game vs Germany when he got on,and got a top class assist. Will comfortably be a top 6-8 premier league player within the next few years.
  13. Bryson is not a journeyman as has only had two clubs.

Evidently, as well Bryson has more of an eye for goal than Hendricks with a goal of around every five games whilst Hendricks has a goal every seven or so games. And as has been pointed out he is deemed by Derby to have been their player of the year (when Hendricks has been on their books at the same time) plus has made the Championship of the year team last season. Nothing there to suggest Hendricks is better.

Didn't say he was better, but he most likely will go on to have a better career. And is probably an improvement on Whelan. McCarthy isn't too much of a loss,as while he is a top,top player at club level he doesnt play the same posistion,or play as well for his country.

  14. He may be 34, he may play in the USA but Robbie Keane can still do a feck load of damage to us. Give him a chance and he will score. 137 caps and 65 goals. Hanley and Martin have to be on top of their game against him.

Except that if he plays it means Ireland will conceede the midfield.

  15. Cox is a decent player mate

Problem is both MON and Trappatoni always played out on the wing ....he is a striker - he is pretty good upfront

Personally id have him in the squad provided he gets played in his natural position

Prob would have Ward in the squad too - although i do realise his extreme limitations as a left back - but we dont have much cover in that area at the moment

Sammon.....sweet mother of god - ive no idea how he gets picked. Completely not up to this standard

To be honest Paul Greens inclusion doesn't bother me too much as he can effectively man mark for a whole game and has a purpose when doing this. But Ward,Kelly,Mcshane are taking up squad places that could be used to blood Doherty, Kiernan and even Joe Mason.
  16. McShane at the back and Sammon upfront. I reckon Arbroath would beat that team

Will never really understand why O'Neil persists in calling up deadwood like Sammon,Cox,McShane,Ward there are many better options in the championship that we have. He must not want to hurt these guys feelings or something. Unfortuneatley for Scotland I wouldn't expect to see Sammon,Cox and McShane in the final squad.

  17. I watched my team in the 4th tier of Scottish football Saturday with a 'official' crowd of 1150..

Standard wasn't that great though so might just pick a EPL team out the hat and start supporting them, Betsy supporting the 'most Irish' EPL team that has 2 real Irishman in it, 1 dud that never plays and Coleman. Lol.

Actually I'd take an Arbroath game over watching a team on the tele any day of the week, I watched the El Classico, Chelsea United this weekend but the game I genuinely enjoyed the most was the Arbroath one. These armchair fans just dinna get it.

Hopefully I never get to that stage, kin when you start judging players down to the club they play for or who's better rated on Champ Man?

The Hearts Hibs game on Saturday even in our 2nd tier was a fantastic watch with some very good quality.

Sorry pal,but who did McCarthy and McGeady play for,and what kind of passport do they hold? Said 4 irish internationals.

  18. Surely rugby is more popular that soccer? You probably get more fans at a Munster home match than the entire LoI combined attendence.

When i moved to Dublin my local team were Shamrock Rovers. Decided not to support them though (probably cos they play in Celtic strips  ) and picked the next closest St. Pats.

I don't go as often as i should, but i still think it's important to make the effort to support a local team with your cash by going to games/buying merchandise or whatever.

Yeah but thats because Leinster represents 2.5 million people and Munster represents 1.2 million people,if there were 4 provincial football clubs you would get these attendances too, I am guessing.

  19. So you're a glory-hunter? Plain and simple.

You won't go support a team because they are normally fighting against relegation? But you can buy Sky Sports and support a foreign team.

    That's pathetic.

Hardly a glory hunter, originally from a place close to Shamrock Rovers stadium.(10km) I support the local team, a glory supporter would support Rovers (Irelands most successful club) I now live 80 km from where my team plays, would you honestly travel every second weekend to watch sub standard football.

Ireland are my passion and come ahead of Everton,Bray Wanderers and any other team you care to mention. Have no problem travelling up to Ireland games every few months/weeks as its not as costly as going every second week. Also don't have sky sports, have BT and Everton have been on that twice this year I think. Also football in Ireland is not the most popular sport, I would imagine it is Second or third behind Hurling and Gaelic football which are both doses of parochial crap in my opinion, but the majority in this country like them so the LOI finds it hard to compete against them.

Would you justify going to a league where the CAO of the FAI makes 400,000 per year while the league winners get 200,000. Clubs can't even afford to sign players for more than a year, and the same players play for different teams each year. I thought after Rovers received a few million for qualifying for the Europa League that league was going to improve, but god knows what has ever happened to that money because Rovers have gotten worse since then. Its a league full of mediocrity competing with The EPL and the Powerful GAA. The media also rams Rugby down our throats here, as its the game of the elite. Dundalk bet Cork City in the league decider the other day but the newspaper I was reading had half a page of a report while the Premier League, GAA and rugby dominated the sports pages.

Also imo there a one or two LOI who are better than current players in the Ireland squad, but will never receive call ups, however as soon as they move to England they are considered "International Standard" you can't call me pathetic because these views have been forced down on Irish people and the FAI are mostly the ones who enforce these negative views.

  20. So you follow Everton to be different from your mates, but won't follow an Irish team because your mates won't follow an Irish team?

I do follow an Irish team, but I don't go regularly and considering they are normally fighting against relegation I am hardly going to be spending money every week to go to a mostly uncovered stand, in the pissing rain to watch hoof ball and catch pneunomia.

  21. "Due to the poor quality Im forced to support an English club" Bollocks! You really are at the wind up. Due to the poor quality of the Scottish leagues none of our boys are forced to support English clubs therein lies the problem with the L.O.I. it can never improve when the punters are "forced" into overseas gloryhunting.

The whole league would need to be restructured for it to take off. New staduims, academies and even clubs as off the top of my head there are not far off 6-8 teams within 20 miles either side of Dublin. Greater Dublin has a pop of 1.8million which isn't enough to support 6-8 teams, and then the rest of the teams apart from Cork City, Limerick,Galway and Sligo are spread out among small country towns with populations of 5-20,000 it just isn't sustainable.
