  1. Am I the only one in this flight? Not seen any talk of it anywhere. Arriving in faro 8.00 ish. Looks like a taxi to albufeira will be more expensive than the flight!!!

Either I have the time wrong, you have the time wrong, or Norwegian Air have two flights ten minutes apart. The wife and I are on the 5.25 Nowegian Air flight on Saturday from Gatwick South.

  2. I don't think you need to worry about hearing the 4th verse in public.

Salmond gave the perfect politician's answer. Labour's new front bench could learn a thing or two from him...

Thats a quote I find myself agreeing with but hating myself for it. Whilst I appreciate the openness and transparency of Cornyn and his lack of spin is quite refreshing. I kind of want someone in his ear walking him past the banana skins.

  3. The key will be winning the 20 something votes, or motivating them to go out and vote. It is a bleak time to be a teenager at the moment with little career prospects and living with your parents until you are 40. Every generation wants to be the opposite of its previous generation, so maybe we are looking at the cycle ending of career identikit politicians to people with a bit more substance.

More importantly, they don't tend to get their information from newspapers so daily attacks are less effective .

  4. I really do not understand the train of thought that Corbyn cannot win an election. Living in England there is no real alternative vote to Tory or Labour. UKIP, Lib Dems, Green all have their place but you are going to vote either Red or Blue. We had a Tory majority voted in with 100 more seats than Labour on 2million more votes. Give or take 11.3 million for Tory to 9.3 million for labour. 46 million people could have voted but only about 30 million chose to. If Corbyn can reach out to the disenfranchised voters through an alternative arguement then I can see him growing in popularity regardless of the media campaign against him.

  5. The criticism now being levelled at Craig Gordon - unbelievable. He is easily Celtics best player - by a distance. The free kick for the winner stalled in the wind, if Gordon had come for that, he'd have been stuck under it and bundled into the net with the ball. The fault firmly lies with the Celtic outfield players for not dealing with it. I think if the lad Blackett had a heart, he'd have won that header easily.

You agree regarding Craig Gordon not being solely at fault.

Gordon has been a fantastic bit of business by Celtic and has saved us many many more times than he has cost us. However he should not be immune from criticism. That is three times in as many weeks that players have scored from set plays inside the 6 yard box. I detest zonal marking, especially with our team at the moment but a keeper should be clearing out everything in his 6 year box, the ball, attackers, defenders the full shooting match. Gordon has been rooted to his line and it has cost us. He is not the only one at fault, I doubt anyone is saying that, but I expect more from him on those crosses.

ETA - Good luck on Thursday - you will need it.

Me? Thank you for your kind thoughts but I should be okay. I have had plenty of interviews in my career so fingers crossed.

  6. Hayes red - Lustig got Hayes sent off. Never a red.

Hayes sending off was correct and he should be imprisoned for life (attempted murder)

Its a red card. He was not in control of the tackle and I am not sure what you were expecting Lustig to do? He can have a few extra games added on for crying like a little bitch instead of leaving the park but no need for jail time.

McLean - Lustig lies on ball - it's there to be won. Was McLean just meant to just hang about until Lustig gets his bambi on ice act together? As a rule, never fall on the ball - you will get kicked to feck - and rightly so, it's cheating!

McLean was a red and he should be imprisoned for life (attempted murder) and hung

regardless of your rewriting of the rule book, you cannot just kick someone if they are in the way. Not a red card by any stretch of the imagination and also no need for imprisonment. I am also against the death penalty so it's more of a moral issue than anything else.

Brown assault - over the top challenge, why wasn't there more of this against Georgia and Germany?

Brown was just unfortunate to have missed the ball as it slid right under his foot when his foot was half way up Jacks shin

Brown once again tries the hard man tackle to show that he is controlling the game and fecks it up completely. His intention was to go in hard, mistimed it and I would have had no issue with him being sent off. It was not unfortunate, it is systematic of the way he has started the season.

The free kick given to Bitton that led to the first goal - absolute joke.

Bitton should get a free kick whenever anyone goes anywhere near him because he is tall and due to the laws of physics he might fall over and hurt himself

I have honestly no idea what you are talking about. Is that the free kick on the half way line, that got passed about a bit under no pressure from Aberdeen, then played back into our half to Mulgrew, who strolled about a bit unchallenged and then launched a 40 yard pass. Yeah that free kick was your undoing....

  7. Right lets give this a go...

Celtic Pen - yes a pen, there would probably have been a goal scoring opportunity but don't think you can say obvious. This is one of those that's probably a red after 80 mins but never after 15 mins. Ref got it right.

Considine should have been sent off and banned for two years as Griffiths was about to score a hat trick in that one move

It was a penalty and a red card. It was a red card in the 15th minute, in the 34th minute and also a red card in the 80th minute. I am not convinced Griffiths would have scored as we are very wasteful but it was a clear goal scoring opportunity. No Griffiths would not have scored a hat trick in that one move but going by your 15 minute/80 minute red card conclusion I understand why you may think that. A one match ban would also be sufficient punishment.

Mulgrew Handball - stonewaller. Deliberate handball in that he made no attempt to move and completely misjudged it. And pro player with "coordination" knows that's hitting his arm.

Mulgrew incident was never a pen as he has big arms and it's not his fault - giving the penalty would have been unprovoked armism

In my opinion it was a penalty. The intentional v unintentional argument has created so much confusion around what was previously quite a straight forward rule. The size of his arms are not really important to me.

Aberdeen pen - stonewaller. Boyota was stupid - this was by no means his only demonstration of his stupidity. He isn't very good.

Never a pen to Aberdeen as Boyata clearly got the ball and Shinnie obviously dived and should be banned for cheating

Penalty. Boyata bundled him over as he is rather clumsy in the tackle. At the time I thought it looked soft but on replay Shinnie knew exactly what he was doing to draw the foul. Boyata did not get the ball and I have no reason to ban Shinnie.

So that covers the penalties. I think that all three were penalties and the ref should have sent off Considine. The fact that you use 'stonewall' to describe Aberdeens two but not Celtics shows a degree of delusion.

  8. Michty - you have a bit of a hard on for calling people mental! Do let me know which parts you don't think are correct - if you happen to get time between calling people mentalists.

Or actually, let me just have a quick stab:

Considine should have been sent off and banned for two years as Griffiths was about to score a hat trick in that one move

Mulgrew incident was never a pen as he has big arms and it's not his fault - giving the penalty would have been unprovoked armism.

Do I? I cannot think of a single person I have called either 'mental' or a 'mentalist' (including you). I may have described someone's opinion or view as mental but that's not quite the same I am sure you will agree.

As for my views on each incident, I will give my opinion when I get home if that's okay however they won't vary too much from your extremely funny and accurate impression so it may actually save me some time typing them out.

  9. I wonder if appealing the "red" is an error. Ok, Hayes plays tonight, but if it isn't overturned (which it absolutely should be) then he misses Hearts away on Sat and god knows whatever else such a bullsh1t decision would determine. This isn't meant to be in any way disrespectful to Accies, Hayes is a very effective player for us when away from home.

Not sure I agree with the comments above regarding the decisions (admittedly, as I'm still wearing my red tinted specs).

That's a bit more than red tinted specs, it's complete delusion and I would section you under the mental health act if you think that is a true reflection on each incident .

  10. Every time I am up visiting my nephews I will head along to the oldests football on a Saturday morning in Penicuik. Always been impressed with the amount of children playing football however the quality of coaching is very varied. My nephew loved football last year and had an excellent coach who played for hearts a few years back ( bit part player) who was constantly doing passing drills and working on touch and control. He moved up a level and his coach is a well intentioned dad who knows nothing about developing players. I kid you not, the kids where practising celebrations before the game when I was up at the start of summer. So he has jacked in football and now does Rugby and Cycling. Today he was leading out the tour of Britain with his cycling club and picked Scotland v Italy at Rugby instead of Scotland v Germany at football to go to.

  11. I think that we will get a playoff place, drawn against the best ranked team and be the plucky underdogs going out after coming so close.

There has been a fair amount written on here over the last few days ranging from blaming the managers and players to our No vote last year.

I would have only taken Hutton, Mulgrew and Fletcher out of the starting line up as the team almost picked itself and most people agreed with the selection. I was also pretty happy with the first 25/30 mins of the game. We kept possession, did not look nervous with the ball and we were getting some success down the wings. But as the game went on it was pretty clear that that was all we had as a game plan. Both holding midfielders passed sideways, backwards and far too often to the opposition. Our front three midfielders had no creativity, no desire to beat a man and no movement. Fletcher was also poor at the one job he had to do, which was bring those guys into play. If you were to try and think where we went wrong, Fletcher, 4 goals in 22 games, never been a goal threat and our style of play does not suit a target man, also been in and out the Sunderland team. Anya, lightening quick but ineffective against a deep lying opposition, been in and out the Watford team. Naismith, not played this season and not had a good Scotland game for a while. Maloney, up until this campaign was not really even considered a first team player and was often criticised for going missing too often. Was poor and lacked any spark. If the play was due to go through him them he went AWOL. So yes our front four may have kept us going in the last few games by grinding out results however, we have been relying on Maloney just as much as Wales have been relying on Bale to paper over our own inefficiencies.

Brown has not started this season well at all and Morrison had his worst game in memory. Mulgrew is not a central defender, or a left back, or a good enough footballer. Hutton has not played enough in the last three years, let alone this season.

My conclusion would be that we are an average team that has average players and occasionally we are better than the sum of our parts. But that is only when we can play our type of football, counter attacking, as we are very limited with the ball at our feet. So I think we will do okay against Germany, but lose. We will beat Poland with a breakaway goal and slog our way to 4-0 against Gib.
