Until I was maybe 7 or 8, I thought Queen's Park & QPR were local rivals. A bit like the Grandstand announcer who described Chester 1 Chesterfield 1 as "a score draw in the local derby".

Blackburn Rovers were initially rivals of a team called Blackburn Olympic who were a very interesting team. They were, in effect, the first working-class team to win anything. They were accused by (I think it was) Old Etonians of cheating/ungentlemanly behaviour, because they trained & also played a tactical game (pretty much the first example of playing a formation rather than the 'huddle & charge' kind of approach the public schools used).

A guy I know (folk singer type) wrote a song about them but he's so obscure I can't even find the CD in my cupboard never mind on YouTube!

All I want for Christmas is a Blackburn Olympic away kit

I watched the coverage last night from half time.

Nauseating stuff. The way they gush about pretty much everything that happened. Embarrassing some of the chat. Talking about City’s best ever players and none were pre Oil injectioned City.

I remember Peter Barnes, he was no 7 for man City  a classic and brilliant winger long before the oil and even before your bedtime

  3. I heard Henderson at Liverpool went to Klopp and told him "I'm more effective as a forward midfielder" and Klopp had the maturity to trust a player's instinct. Henderson has always been far better as an attacking midfielder, and Klopp recognised this. Maybe McTominay should advise Solskjaer in the same way.

  4. Thank you Iainmac, I got my info from Wikipedia, so....it is probably wrong (sorry)!

At least Fort William aren't in as farcical position as the Denmark national team.

And yes, their ground is probably the most beautiful in the UK.... I would love to go there, and Campbeltown to visit Saddell Castle

On Football manager, with judicial computer shut-down of games, I could get Fort William into the Platini League (UEFA Cup) at least?

  5. I am wondering if we should start going for the record books.... and to start supporting Fort William.

I always check on Fort William scores, as the way a doctor checks the medical graph at the end of the bed when they are on a drip.

Is it possible to play the manager for Fort William on Football Manager?  I'd love to be the Steve Gerrard figure for them.

I'm surprised the patient has recovered somewhat, and only lost 11-0 vs Cove Rangers.

(and, FW have scored more goals than Lossiemouth)

But then they get deducted 9 points for fielding an ineligible player; is their no humanity left?:(

    c'mon on....

And 150£.....(it's 10 bottles of Johnny Walker Red label, just to put that into context.....)

I read that the Fort William area is more renowned for shinty and gaelic football and hurling

Is it time for Fort William to just get some hurley sticks and use some wood?

  6. I think, when we look back on this World Cup, the thing that will stick in our craw is how popular the ordinary England fans have been in Russia. We were all looking for stories of England fans trashing the place, or chasing Swedish girls (we need to save them!) but the England fans, the ordinary decent ones, seem to have made the Cold War a damp squib, and even had locals supporting them.

This is worrying; I can handle a successful England football squad....(errgghh!)

but surely they can't also have popular fans....:(

Can anyone google the news to see if England fans have caused any trouble?

Because if their is no news on that front....then the bastards may have lost the football, but then they have won the really important thing, which is, how much does everyone love us?
