  1. Depends on if there’s trouble with trams towards town. If all running fluently then tram is loads faster
  2. Well you have about 1,5 hours to get there. Either tram from stadium station to Neumarkt, then go to subway and take line 16 or 18 to main railway station. Or walk to Müngersdorf Technologie park and take s-bahn from there. Both should be fine for you when leaving 12.30am
  3. The homeless down here will live like kings after we’ve been in town 😎 just so you know: glass bottles come with 8 Cents deposit for them. Plastic bottles and cans come with 25 Cents
  4. This is from my first post a few months ago: Stadium To my opinion (but I am fore sure not neutral 😊) one of the best proper football grounds of all new modern stadias in Germany. Atmosphere could get brilliant as stands are very close to pitch. You can get to the stadium easily by line 1 tram from city centre in about 15 minutes. Only critical point: the tram is overground and mixes up with traffic. So allow enough time to get to stadium before the game else you may be stuck once one tram is stopping due to different reasons. I think the local transport company will add loads more trams next to line 1 on game day. Another option is to take the S-Bahn from main railway station/Hansaring/Ehrenfeld to “Müngersdorf Technologiepark” and walk from there. Should be a 20 minute walk and can make things easier. Final option is to take same S-Bahn to Weiden West and come back from there with line 1 to stadium. This way you avoid the chaos going straight from city centre to stadium with line 1 City There are two main spots for larger groups that are popular when the carnival season is going on. Zülpicher Str – which is the student quarter with loads of bars and pubs and for sure old town around Alter Markt and Heumarkt. Both are in plenty city centre and easily reachable by tram. Your best way to travel around town is tram. Once you go out of city, S-Bahn may be your option. I will not mention the sightseeing stuff as everyone can look that up on their own and most people will be staying for the booze mainly 😊 Another option for a mass of people could be Deutzer Werft. In 2006, England fans without tickets were watching the game in their thousands on a big screen down there. It is also close to city centre just on other side of river Rhine. Once I find out if this is planned I will let everyone know here. To be honest, I am not a fan of those official fan zones. I do not know the plans yet about where they should be etc. I guess one will be on Heumarkt in old town. Let’s wait and see Accommodation I guess this area will be full of football fans (Belgium, England also play a game in Cologne) so in case you cannot find affordable accommodation on Cologne city soil, feel free to look at all options in the Region: Leverkusen, Bergisch Gladbach, Düren, Bonn, etc. Public transport is usually good and you can easily get into Cologne city centre. In case you have questions about Accommodation area and are unsure if to book just post here and I will double check. Most importantly: beers and bevvies 😊 For those going for pubs: old town is the place, there are 3 irish pubs in old town. Also Zülpicher Str is your 2nd main option. If you fancy staying outside having a foam party and drinking bottles/cans I am listing those supermarkets where you get drinks easily: Edeka and Rewe are the more expensive ones followed by Aldi. Rewe and Aldi are available in city centre. Lidl, Netto and Penny are bit cheaper but there are less supermarkets available. As you probably all know a bottle or can 0.5L is about 1€ to 1.50€. Good deal I would say 😊 Something that is getting popular at risk games in Bundesliga and also during carnival here in Cologne is a bottle and can ban due to security. I pray that this will not come for the Euros but if happening, it can get a bit more tricky with public drinking. On the other side I doubt that local authorities will be capable of controlling several ten thousand Scotland fans for bottles/cans. You will also be able to get the hard stuff in supermarkets. Alcohol sale ban policy is under 18 here in Germany. If you look younger the staff my ask you for ID to proof you are 18 and older. ############################## Here's more information as we are coming closer to the game on 19th June: Fanzones a third fanzone will be added in the city centre for the Scotland game on 19th and the England game on 25th. It will be close to the central station. I definitely recommend this one more than the one in Tanzbrunnen. Tanzbrunnen will be off and is a bit outside. My understanding of a lively day at a major tournament is flooding the city centre and not being off outside town. The one in old town will be the place to be and then probably the new one near main railway station. Happy places next to Fanzones As already mentioned several times. If you don't fancy one of the official Fanzones, get yourself to Zulpicher Str (loads of bars and pubs) or Aachener Weiher. Aachener Weiher will be depending on weather. Not a place to go if it's raining. There's a nice beergarden at Aachener Weiher and it's walking distance to stadium (max 30 Minutes). don't get ripped off Rumours that I hear from out of certain areas of town is that some people will try to make big money by selling beers, drinks etc for crazy prices. Don't get ripped of for a few cans of beer. If you fancy drinking bottles or cans in public instead sitting in a pub, then get yer arse to one of the supermarkets like Rewe, Aldi, Lidl, netto, Edeka and buy cheap beer (can/bottle about max 1,50€ for a pint). Get a bag, fill it up there and have a great time in one of the happy places but don't pay fucking 5 or 10 Euros for a can from some wankers that sell beer on the fly out of their bag Food for those not wanting to go to a restaurant. You will get little snacks in every supermarkert or drugstore like dm or Rossmann. Maybe add that to your bag when buying beer there. Else there's plenty Doner or food shops all over the place. get to stadium early I recommend to get to the stadium very early. Traffic with trams in Cologne can be nightmare. There's an official fan march from S-Bahn station Müngersdorf Technologiepark. For those not wanting to attend: if you leave city centre early for stadium, I would even recommend to walk all the way down Aachener Str to the stadium. It's an easy walk, about 35 Minutes from Rudolfplatz and 30 Minutes from Aachener Weiher. If sun is shining, you will enjoy it. A few kiosks for boozers on the way. Gates open 3 hours before kick off already. What I don't recommend: drink in old town until 8pm and then hope to be in the stadium at 9pm, this can go wrong for you. It does go wrong for most people that come so late at Cologne home games...
  5. You're a wee bit off the place. But you simply need to get to Refrath station. That's a 20 minute walk (1.5k). From there, Line No 1 will take you straight to town and also directly to old town if you wish to descend there (station for old town is "Heumarkt" with Line No 1). Just from my experience, Refrath is a bit more of a quiet place but usually every place has a few little pubs. I would recommend to spend your time in city centre in Cologne.
  6. Hey, For those that are ok with spending a fortune, this may be an option for the game in Cologne: https://news-koeln.infrontsports.com/i/tqXyvUjcrn1vc9tQ0STkhxpkC34_rdfBEgBcvYsZHKk Tickets start from 1250€... Cheers, David
  7. You can. There’s a passage way left of the stadium towards away end/north stand
  8. Away end on north side of stadium and station on south. Walking normal takes about 12 minutes to away end entrance
  9. Hi, a German lad I know from Cologne games has two tickets cat 1 for this game left. 900€ each. He can't go to Munich and is happy to sell them face value. PM me if interested and I can connect you with him. As I know him for years this is not scam or so... Cheers,
  10. Munich two possible: Hbf and Ostbahnhof Cologne also two: Hbf and Messe/Deutz really look into details when you book coming from Munich to Cologne will sometimes let you arrive at Deutz with those trains not continuing to Cologne Hbf but going to towards Dusseldorf. So that means you will have to get off at Deutz 😎
  11. Yeah good idea. But if you have match ticket you’ll be cheaper with just getting the ticket from Augsburg to travel zone greater Munich
  12. If the natives will be friendly, that I cannot answer If you stay in Mannheim, you'd just take ICE train from there to Cologne. Direct train and only about 2 hours trip. Very easy. Would recommend to come over early am from Mannheim to Cologne and then either head to old town, Zulpicher Street or Aachener Weiher. There are rumours for another fanzone near main railway station for our match. I would definitely go to old town instead Tanzbrunnen though. Nightlife in Cologne quite lively in these areas I already mentioned. So would also recommend to take first train back instead last train. Also depends on a Scotland win haha
  13. You’ll definitely find a shady pub for a few good Kölsch with the locals 😎
  14. Bahnhof Mülheim is your station. Take regional train to Dusseldorf Flughafen Fernbahnhof. From your hotel to station is a 20 minute walk. If you leave very early take cab. Never getting sick of any of those questions 😎
  15. Hey, Mülheim is a very local neighbourhood but really subcultural and multicultural. I would not say it's shite, it's just not too posh. But as you say, getting from there to town with tram line no 4 is easy and short distance. You can go from Mülheim to Neumarkt.
  16. Regional trains are part of the 36 hour travel and Deutschland ticket either. For ice you have to get extra tickets
  17. Not the best place in the Ruhrpott area. But short distances to Dusseldorf, Bochum and Dortmund. Travel to Cologne early morning matchday very easy
  18. Depends if regional or inter city trains. Regional you can buy as you go on the fly.
  19. Take line no1 from stadium to Neumarkt, then switch to underground No 16 or 18 to main central
  20. Still recommend to party until 4-5am and then go back. Else you spend your time on a regional train after a Scotland win 😀
  21. What a back and forth, better bring your luggage to Cologne and lock it. Regional trains will be free with match ticket
  22. Suburb of Dusseldorf. Ok for accommodation but would go to Dusseldorf or Cologne for booze
  23. Corkonian Irish Pub in middle of old town yeah, that will be one of the places to be…
