  1. It's hard to understand this one as 2 years ago him and Bryson at Derby were tearing every team to shreds in the championship and were never selected , low and behold he starts playing pish and the bold strschan starts him 2 games in a row , it just doesn't make sense

To think - at the Derby v Villa match at the weekend, of the 18 players named by both sides, the following players were eligible for us

Craig Forsyth, Craig Bryson, Johnny Russell, Chris Martin, Ross McCormack and Alan Hutton.

Out of that lot I genuinely think he picked the two worst

if a Scottish championship player gets picked before any English championship player the full thing is a joke ! john mcginn would not be allowed to train with derby county and hes in the Scotland squad ,makes the full thing an absolute farce

man of the match performance on his debut would suggest otherwise. he is the best up and coming midfield player we have.

if we have to build a team around mcginn lets shut the hampden doors , hes playing in the Scottish championship for a reason

  4. Time to wrap it strachan , Greer and Maloney can't get a game for their championship clubs and playing for their country unbelievable as is fletcher playing in midfield , he has done nothing for Scotland recently and how Bryson cannot get a game in the centre of that midfield is astounding , surely you give players a chance in these games and if you get pumped and they are no good enough so what

Seen on twitter there the squad will be announced tomorrow at 11, not seen a lot of talk on here so thought I'd start a thread on what I hope we will see,

    Craig Gordon (Celtic)

    David Marshall (Cardiff)

    *Allan McGregor (Hull)*

    * If Hull make play off final, Bain would probably come in for McGregor.

    Callum Paterson (Hearts)

any other right backs? Really don't want to see Hutton but we will.

    Russell Martin (Norwich)

    Grant Hanley (Blackburn)

    Christophe Berra (Ipswich)

Another centre back? Not sure who.

    *Andrew Robertson (Hull)*

    Kieren Tierney (Celtic)

*If Hull make play off final Shinnie would come in.

    *Barry Bannan (Sheffield Wednesday)*

    James McArthur (Crystal Palace)

    Darren Fletcher (West Brom)

    John McGinn (Hibs)

    James Morrison (West Brom)

Another centre midfielder? I'd imagine Strachan will call up both of Mulgrew and Brown. Bannan's inclusion depends on play off's.

Barrie McKay (Rangers) Been excellent lately and I think he deserves a call up, aware that others won't.

    Matt Ritchie (Bournemouth)

    Ikechi Anya (Watford)

    *Robert Snodgrass (Hull)*

*Snodgrass another who could be in play off final, Jamie Murphy, Oli Burke, James Forrest would probably be in Strachans mind for replacements.

    Ross McCormack (Fulham)

    Leigh Griffiths (Celtic)

    Steven Fletcher (Marseille)

    Jordan Rhodes (Middlesbrough)

My starting line up if all these players were available, including those in play off would be,

    Gordon

    Paterson

    Hanley

    Martin

    Robertson

    McArthur

    Fletcher

    Bannan

    Snodgrass

    Anya

    Fletcher

    Thoughts?

No Russell or Bryson , we must have some team ?

I guess it depends on the play off games. He's really came back to form this season after his injury, and gives Scotland something I dont think they currently have.

As we dont have proven strikers, a midfielder with an eye for a goal and energy to burn should at least be in the squad.

Last season he was a yard off the pace but never really got injury free.

Id have him in my midfield for the qualifiers coming up. Given a run in the team I reckon the fans would be surprised how good he is.

M8 thank god you have some sense , I watch Derby every week and he's a massive loss to the club when not playing , you only realise how good he is when he's not playing , in fact forget John McGinn who's useless he's a better player than Scott Brown also in my opinion

  7. 7 minutes ago, hannibal smith said:

McGinn is in for one for the future as was Paterson last year and a few others  who were brought into make the step up from the under 21's

McGinn plays for Hibs, as a Hearts fan I don't really like him but its pretty obvious to anyone who has seen him play more than a few times that he wont be at Hibs for too long.

Bryson is a decent player but there are a whole host of players in their late 20's who are rightly ahead of Bryson in the pecking order.

I do like Russell as a player and hope he gets a good run out in the next two games,

if derby go up Bryson will play every game for Scotland next season trust me on that one and it will just make it all the more laughable hes no been selected before, where will mcginn go ? burton , Walsall , blackpool ? as it certainly wont be the championship in England , hes NOT good enough

  8. 1 hour ago, ProudScot said:

Bryson isn't good enough, he's a good example of a player good at his own level but not able to cut it internationally - Chris Martin is another and... Barry Bannan (Awaiting the argument on that one)

friend , the 3 mentioned are all playing in far better teams and a far better league than john mcginn at hibs ! and hes no really very good for them , the full thing stinks , i watch a lot of the championship in England and the SPL up here is miles behind that particular league never mind the Scottish championship

  9. 42 minutes ago, hannibal smith said:

McGinn is 21, Bryson is 29. Neither are currently good enough to play in a competitive game barring a lot of injuries for Scotland.

McGinn has show fantastic development over the last season whereas Bryson is not going to get much better. McGinn is in the squad as he is very much one for the future.

seriously Bryson has not had a game in his best position for Scotland , hes a real box to box player who will get you goals , I understand the age thing but hes the fittest player in England , his km per game is matched by no one and to compare john mcginn to Bryson is like comparing champagne to red kola ,its actually laughable , and while I'm at it johnny Russell is better than anything Scotland have up front as well

Oh great, the moronic FollowFollow and RangurzMeeja view complete with obligatory reference to "Chesney" ..............

See McGinn's impressive debut against Denmark did you ? He's one of our most promising young players and it makes sense to give him some more international experience.

Bryson has struggled with injury in a stop/start season with Derby. He's also thirty years old this November. We can't pick him based on how he played a few years ago.

Wah wee he played well in a friendly , he's just no a very good player and probably only picked because of the McGinn connection with the sfa

fact - he wouldn't get a game in English championship with any club

fact - Bryson being fit has turned Derbys season around and before you reply to me get your facts right , Bryson missed the first 7 months of the season with a bad injury , since being fit he's been ever present so hardly stop start and 2 players who cost Derby 10 million pounds can't get near  the starting 11

  11. On 7 May 2016 at 11:48 AM, Dairbee said:

Aye, cant disagree with that. With the right system and mobile players playing off him he's effective. When he starts to play well Russell and Bryson thrive on his service.

Interesting to see next squad , if Chesney picks John McGinn of championship hibs before Craig Bryson of Derby he should be sectioned and locked away , he couldn't lace brysons boots

  12. Erm... Because McArthur is a defensive mid and came on in that position

Eh exactly we were in the ascendency at this point , an attacking midfielder might have won us the game , he came on and lost us the game

  13. I don't get why MacArthur comes on before bryson , Bryson is the best attacking midfielder in championship by far and his stats back this up , 16 goals and same amount of assists playing in the same league as MacArthur who didn't have half of this makes me wonder why MacArthur gets the nod in front of him , Bryson was shoved out right against Norway in a game where no one played well but give him a game in his own position and you will see the most improved player in the championship

  14. MacArthur n Bryson both play there week in week out with their clubs and both are better in there than him , he's only in because he's 6ft plus no other explanation , n while I'm at it Marshall is not in same class as greegsie

  15. That was

i think Mulgrew has been quite good in midfield especially Croatia at home and Nigeria friendly ,as for Bryson don,t think he can handle the step up as we saw against Norway where he was awful and hooked at half time

Nonsense , know for a fact strachan apologised to him for playing him on right side of midfield as he's a box to box central midfielder , if he'd played there and got the hook at half time I would agree with you , mulgrew is not even good in that position for celtic so go for players who play there week in week out with their clubs

  16. I would have mulgrew back to left back now and play real midfielders in there beside fletcher who will play even although I think he shouldn't , I would also start Bryson before macarthur any day of the week , having followed the championship very closely last season Bryson is the best midfielder in that league by a country mile , 16 goals and same amount of assists would back up that statement
