You want to play Stuart Armstrong at centre half?

And your list is entirely subjective.  I would probably put Armstrong and Bardsley in the squad, the rest not really.  I haven't seen Barry Douglas since he left United but he was a thousand miles away from international quality then.

Never said that I would play them all at centre half, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to play Barry Douglas, Phil Bardsley or Stephen Kingsley in defence. Tom Cairney and Stuart Armstrong should be considered for future squad selections, definitely involved for a friendly or 2 anyway.

You could actually make a decent squad with players that are not involved with Scotland

McDonald, Douglas, Anderson, Considine, Bardsley, Armstrong, Adam, Cairney, Shinnie, McCormack, Rhodes

And if the guys who are playing regularly are significantly worse than the guys selected?  Who do you have in mind?

Phil Bardsley, Tom Cairney, Stephen Kingsley, Barry Douglas, Stuart Armstrong

We do have a significant problem that there are no international quality Scottish centre halves at the moment.  I don't see how that can be Strachan's fault.

Playing guys who are regularly starting at their clubs might help, change the formation to accommodate the defenders. We have to work hard to create chances, the opposition don't. That's what needs to be addressed

if burke was starting for that team great

but coming on as an impact player

that is not the guy to be building your international team around

To break into a winning team in the bundesliga is hard enough, granted that we would prefer him to be starting though. If he continues to develop his potential then I see no reason not to build a team around him, but we should be laying the foundation's just now

Some people fail to realise there's a jump in quality between certain leagues/players and just because someone is in form or playing consistently for their current team it doesn't mean they could cut it at a higher level. The ability, tempo, physicality aspects is so much greater than at St Johnstone's level. If you seriously think you could put Steven Anderson in the Scotland team without him being miles out of his depth I really do give up hope.

    Over and out.

I don't really think Scotland are in a position to turn up our nose to anyone, but to play devil's advocate apart from 3 players in the NI side 2 centre halfs and Steve Davis the rest of them are made up of lower league players and none of them look out of their depth

  6. 5 at the back with the lb and rb attacking when on the counter. Tierney Berra Mulgrew Martin and Bardsley. Make the defence stubborn and our team hard to beat, might not be great to watch but the opposition don't have to work hard to score goals against us at the moment.

Write this campaign off and start again and build up momentum. For friendlies use guys like Kingsley, Hendrie and Anderson

  7. Do they?

3 headers lost in the box at Wembley suggests that they don't know their job.

    3 goals lost in Slovakia.

Ok 1st goal was on the counter but Scotland had a total of 9 men defending in the box and 7 in front of the ball! Second goal lost in Slovakia our defending was terrible almost like they were taking part of the mannequin challange. 3rd goal lost in Slovakia was another header, this time in between 2 defenders

So tell me again about the benefits of Scotland using zonal marking?

  8. We haven't tried anything different in the friendlies. Gordon Greer (no harm to him) for instance isn't going to improve us in the next 2/3 years so why call him up for Italy and France? Why let's say not start with Kingsley and Anderson or use Stephen Hendrie, Tom Carney and Rhodes from Blackburn and let them put themselves in the shop window for us?

We keep pissing in the wind and expecting something different

  9. Would Wales or ROI lose 3 headers which resulted in goals for England? Not a chance, would any other nation applaud a manager in Faro after another disappointing campaign?

    We get what we deserve

We're all fed up at the minute, that tends to be the way after recent Scotland games. Bear in mind though that if (big if, but possible) we beat Slovenia and England in our next two games we are right back in the mix for 2nd place.

Totally agree that things need to improve, whether a new manager is the answer I don't know. A look at our defence, potential for some players to develop / get game time over the next few months amongst other factors could change this campaign for us. We started well last campaign but finished poorly and that cost us, we need to do the opposite this time around and I think we can.

    Hope your right
