  1. Felt it was a comfortable performance and provided some optimism after a poor display on Friday.

Phillips had his best game in a Scotland shirt; held the ball up well and was a nice finish for the goal.

The midfield three of Armstrong, McGinn & McGregor were very good and I would like to see more of this.

Two young lads at centre back played really well and with Tierney being able to move in there, it is potentially quite exciting.

Thought Fraser was a bit wasted playing where he was & once again Forrest was fairly anonymous.

Would have liked to have seen one of the keepers get time, but McGregor pulled off a couple of good saves.

Overall there's certainly room for improvement but also much to be cautiously optimistic about, even though that was a poor Hungary side.

  2. Leigh Griffiths shouldn't be in the squad to "defend set plays".

It is unbelievable that any 'modern' day coach would still pick players based only on their physical attributes. Ridiculous comment from the national manager.

Both the booing at full-time and the applauding were probably understandable. This might seem like a contradiction but while acknowledging it was a disappointing performance and outcome, the level of acrimony by a few people round about me went way over the top, almost from the first whistle. We all deal with frustration in different ways but I remain convinced that the players respond to encouragement rather than abuse (even when it's directed at the manager). It got to the stage that I was more pissed off at the levels of abuse than the performance on the park. A lot of it is human nature but I think the fact that it started so early in the game in particular kind of pissed me off...

Aye, I think frustration is the key word here. We all want to see the team do well & ultimately qualify for a tournament, however just the second game in and understandably, it looks as if that could be another 2yrs down the swanny. I hope we can recover these points on Tuesday but I'm not convinced we will.

  4. Don’t see the problem with booing the team off at FT after what was a pretty poor performance. I also think there's an element of frustration of just wanting to qualify for a tournament, especially after watching all ‘home nations’ compete at one in the summer. I found it more bizarre that some stayed behind to applaud the players off the park at FT.

Hopefully you get on that because the 18.40 also cancelled, by the looks of it, for tomorrow. We are on 19.40 and only 20.40 after that. I can see them both being very busy.

Have booked the megabus at 23h as a contingency as I saw all further trains were full (£38 for 4 of us) but it did mean changing our hotel as original didn't have 24hr front desk, so now having to stay 2 different places. Bit of a pain but worst case scenarios are all covered, I think!

I got an email from SNCF last night to say my train from Paris - Metz has been cancelled. They were already few and far between and the next one is two hours later....showing as full, but just going to have to jump on it!! It was supposed to be thwe 15:40 on Friday.

Our 1640 train has been cancelled for tomorrow too. Also hoping to jump on the 1740 now but not sure how likely that will be.

  7. I'm waiting on a minibus company getting back to me for a transfer to and from the game. Staying at the same place as yourself and would have 2 seats available. Will let you know when I get a reply if still interested.

  8. The stats must be wrong because we also lost to Holland in 2009.

Yup, you're right, I've had us down as an extra home win somewhere and missed out a defeat - the problem from looking from one screen to a spreadsheet! Was a right ball ache trying to find the error, I'll double check the away ones later on. The home stats should read:

    Home Win: 54% (20/37)

    Home Draw: 24% (9/27)

    Home Loss: 22% (8/37)

  9. It's our away record, often against weaker opposition, that has cost us in the last 10-15 years.

Our home record has been good to very good overall.

I'd be interested to see any tables or stats if they were available.

As far as I can make out, since 2000 we have played 74 competitive fixtures up to and including Germany last night (both 37 games home and away). These are the numbers I come up with:

    Home Win: 57% (21/37)

    Home Draw: 24% (9/27)

    Home Loss: 19% (7/37)

    Away Win: 32% (12/37)

    Away Draw: 19% (7/37)

    Away Loss: 49% (18/37)

I'd say we have a very good overall home record. Away however...losing 1 in 2 away games is never going to see us qualify for anything

  10. Can't see a time for the draw either but according to UEFA site, fixtures for the qualifying will be out the following day on 26th July:

    Draw procedure
Six seeding pots will be formed as per theFIFA world rankings for July 2015 published early in the month (June rankings).

    • All groups will contain one team from each of the top five seeding pots. Each of the seven sides in the sixth pot will be allocated to a six-team group.

    • Due to the centralisation of media rights for European Qualifiers, England, France,Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands will all be drawn into six-team groups. They may be placed in the same group if they are in different seeding pots.

    • Due to the political situation between the countries, and based on the relevant decisions taken by the UEFA Executive Committee, Azerbaijan and Armenia cannot be drawn together.

    • The fixture list will be confirmed on Sunday 26 July.
