It wasn't the players he picked in the squad that was the problem, it was the system and team selection. Far to slow and lethargic, absolutely no pace. Playing a big target man is fine for lay-offs and holding the ball up providing you have a Durrant or Wark-type player bursting through (Bryson maybe?) but when you have Martin/Fletcher flicking on to no-one what's the point?

Surely to fvck Strachan won't go with the same look again? We created more in the last 20 mins against Slovakia with pace in the side (Anya and Griffiths). He must've noticed that? Some of England's players could catch pidgeons and we need to match that -  you'd be lucky if Ritchie, Martin, Snoddy could catch a leftover turkey piece.

    Good point.

I'm not aware of anyone saying that you feckin plank of wood

Keep searching its about somewhere.Maybe beside the post saying that Rangers sevco or whatever you want to call them should concentrate on catching hearts St Johnstone and Aberdeen, which they may have done today.I'm not a Rangers fan btw, just dont like Aberdeen;)

    Hopefully Kingsley gets the nod.

Terrible news though, for club, country and most of all the player.  I really hope he can recover from this, come back, and fulfil his potential, which is considerable.  Put it this way, if we had half a dozen or so young players as good as Tierney and Oliver Burke playing in various positions then I'd be a lot more hopeful about the future of our team.

    Me too.

It shows how desperate Scotland, and Scotland supporters, are becoming when a player whom, when you wipe away all the rubbish, is basically saying "I can't be bothered with the shitey games, but still fancy the "glamour" games" is being welcomed back with open arms...

Generally speaking imo, a good start for whomever the next Scotland Manager is, would be to make it clear to his players, using this campaign's games as an example, "Anyone whom withdraws from the Malta squad, for any reason, does not go to Wembley"..

I get there would be the odd occasion where we miss out on a player for a "big" game who withdrew for genuine reasons from a "small" game, but think it would be counterbalanced, and more, by not having chancers picking and choosing when they turn up...

    :ok:

Yes big improvment needed from everyone. Bannan, Hanley and a couple of others should be left out to try other options for the upcoming games IMO

Which i dont agree with but of course fully respect,we all have our own favourites.

I'm a United fan so was gutted when he left, but genuinely thought he might be one who wouldn't drift at Celtic and become a journeyman like so many others. He's certainly as good as we have in the squad at the moment but young and enthusiastic. Could easily do a better job than bannan I reckon.

Take 7 minutes to watch Sheffield Wednesday's highlights against QPR or any other game,no way can Armstrong pass the ball like Bannan.Defensively weak but our best passer of the ball.Just needs to play further forward .

Agree, I do not get all these formations, go with a basic 4-4-2 , allows the fullbacks to work with the midfielder in front of them and thus defend together and attack together.  Sinclair left Tierney out to dry in the same way Snodgrass did for Scotland earlier in the month.

Couldn't agree more. The best method for average teams,eg Watford and Leicester.

Is defending set plays and corners an SFA  coaching manual compulsory ? Why do we always have eleven men back?

It's time to break free from this nonsense and keep the likes of Griffiths up front.

    :ok:

  9. My first game was 62 vs England at hampden, ive seen all of our best players since then, and I think Faddy ,while not being the best, certainly had something when on song. The game against Ukraine I agree was his best.I miss him a lot.

After the failure against Iceland and now this! Cant see Us getting many more advantages against England. 3 managers in 4 months.

IF we put on good displays against lithuenia and slovakia we should show no fear against this lot!

    Yes no fear.....

So that would players in the starting line up playing in different positions not passing because they're worried about losing their place?

I'll let you work that one out for yourself Einstein.

  12. Could have received the ball to foot much more often if his new team mates had wanted to.The wee Austrian guy with the seven completely ignored him a lot.I imagine fear of losing their place to a 19 year old Scot is part of their thinking. All in all he played ok.Not brilliant but a good start.
