  1. Bit of a last-minute job but am going now. Train tickets sorted - also staying in Cheltenham. Will be meeting up with a bunch of Austrians who won't really know where they're going either! Any recommendations for pubs, etc welcome! There will be about 20 of them.

Plenty of pubs in both Cheltenham & Gloucester. Depends what sort of thing you're looking for? Live sport, real ale, music/dancing, decent scran?

I checked the trains and it`s only 10 minutes from Cheltenham to Gloucester.

Cheltenham train station is a decent walk out of the town centre. It's probably easier to get the 94 bus from the Promenade right in the centre. Takes about half an hour, but a wee bit cheaper. Plus it's leather seats, free wi-fi, and air conditioned (if it's hot) - we're posh down here you know!

  2. I'm trying to find somewhere to watch Cheltenham v Wrexham in Yerevan on Monday night (also on BT Sport). Hinchada seems to be the best bet, although there's also a sports bar called Champions that may be worth a try. I tried to contact both bars, but no reply unfortunately.

  3. Heading to Moscow for 4 days en route to Georgia at the end of the month. Any tips for places to go, sights to see, etc.?

Also, that weekend, Dynamo are at home to FK UFA, Spartak are at home to Anzhi, and Lokomotiv are at home to FK Krasnodar. Any suggestions for which one I should go to? Leaning towards Spartak at the moment, but the opinion of the board's resident ground-hoppers is also welcome!

  4. Finally managed to get myself a Japan ticket. Would've been raging if I hadn't got one - Kingsholm is literally 5 minutes from my house! Having Scotland play that close and not being there just wasn't an option...

  5. Already done:

Germany (a) - Gatwick to Cologne direct, reverse on the way back

    Georgia (h) - Drove up the M6

Poland (a) - Stansted to Warsaw direct; Warsaw to Krakow after the game; then Krakow to Stansted coming back

    Gibraltar (h) - Drove up the M6

Ireland (a) - Birmingham to Dublin direct, reverse coming back

    To do:

Georgia (a) - Heathrow to Moscow, 4 days there; Moscow to Yerevan, 2 days there; Yerevan to Tbilisi (bus), 3 days there; Tbilisi to Kiev, 2 days there; Kiev to Heathrow

Gibraltar (a) - Heathrow to Lisbon; train to Faro; reverse coming back

So by the end of the campaign:

    England

    Scotland

    Germany

    Poland

    Rep. Ireland

    Russia

    Armenia

    Georgia

    Ukraine

    Portugal

  6. DoonTheSlope

We are staying the Sat night in Kiev arriving 18-30 from Georgia

    booked into the Ibis

if you fancy a pint on the Sat night wi a fellow Hibby gies a shout nearer the time

    Returning to Edinburgh via Amsterdam

We're on the same flight as you to Kiev. First round's on you!

  7. I'm starting to think DoonTheSlope is copying my route... Already replied on the Kiev thread, and now there's a Moscow one too!

We're also going to Moscow beforehand, then on to Yerevan before heading to Tbilisi. The visa process is a pain in the arse - they now do biometric scanning so you actually have to go to the embassy to get fingerprinted etc. before they'll issue the visa. I'm going to need to head to London to do mine as I live down south; but the Edinburgh office does it as well. Need the letter of invitation first though, which I've asked my hotel for. Overall, though, it doesn't seem to take too long - it's just the hoops you need to jump through that are annoying!

  8. I'm heading to Kiev after Tbilisi as well, so you won't be the only Scot there! We can both nip Wanderer's heid on the Gori trip for tips on what to see/do...

Have you booked a hotel? We're booked into the Ibis City Centre, less than £25 each for 2 nights.

  9. I didn't know Matt Ritchie was eligible, but I'm pleased he is - cracking wee player and has had a terrific season for Bournemouth, who are flying. Forrest is my major complaint in that squad, I don't rate him at all, but other than that, I'm pleased enough. GMS, Armstrong, Gauld, Watt, Griffiths etc. can all feel hard done by; but it has to be a positive that we have so many good players competing for places in the squad. It's a long, long time since we could say that.

  10. Normality returns here tomorrow. Been a great week though. Only 49p down for the week, so can't complain! Definitely going to take some time off next year and head up to the course for at least one of the days.

  11. The town is fecking jumping already. No doubt the Festival is a great occasion, but it's a right pain in the arse when you live here & still need to get to and from work!

Anyone needs any tips on where to go in town etc., drop me a PM :ok:

Tomorrow is a bit crap for punting. Treble of Annie Power, Faugheen, and Un De Sceaux I think - I was going to add Douvan but I've been put off a bit. Qewy could be a decent e/w shout in the first. Not a clue what else to do though...

  12. I've stopped going to Ibrox because of this shite. I'll continue to support the team, but I refuse to pay money to the club to sit among utter Neanderthals anymore. I'm up the road at the end of March when Rangers are at home to Cowdenbeath - time was I'd have gone along to that, but no more. Instead I'll be attending Albion Rovers v Elgin.

The authorities need to start doing something - closed doors, points deductions, whatever - that'll force Rangers (and Celtic to a lesser extent) to take action. Until that happens, the problem will continue.

  13. Very very difficult as I grew up during the NIAR & Advocaat eras. Laudrup, Gazza, De Boer, Van Bronckhorst, Numan, Mols... All fantastic. But the Great Dane stands out for me, so I'd go with Laudrup.

For Cheltenham, since I started following them, despite having seen players like Jack Butland, Luke Garbutt and Marlon Pack; I've got to go with big Stevie Elliott. Uncompromising, no-nonsense defender who'd run through brick walls for the club. Great to have him as assistant manager now - hopefully he'll help keep us up.

  14. What I can remember:

    Aberdeen v Dunfermline (SPL)

    Dunfermline v Aberdeen (SPL)

Aberdeen v Hertha Berlin (UEFA Cup)

    East Stirling v Montrose (D3)

    Stenhousemuir v East Stirling (D3)

Berwick Rangers v Ross County (D2)

    Liverpool v Olimpiakos (Friendly)

    Stirling v Alloa (D2)

Airdrie v Stirling (D2 playoff final)

    Aston Villa v Bolton (Premiership)

West Brom v Liverpool (Capital One Cup)

    Burnley v Celta Vigo (Friendly)

Man Utd v Newcastle (twice) (Premiership)

    Newcastle v Bolton (Premiership)

Buckie Thistle v Cove Rangers (Highland League Cup Final)

    Newcastle v Ipswich (Championship)

    Birmingham v Aston Villa (Premiership)

    Bristol City v Shorpe (Championship)

    Forest Green v Tamworth (Conference)

Bishop's Cleeve v Slough Town  (Southern League Division One)

    Bayern Munich v Schalke (Bundesliga)

    Barcelona v Deportivo (La Liga)

Real Madrid v Leverkusen (CL Final at Hampden)

Sevilla v Espanyol (UEFA Cup Final at Hampden)

And a couple that I'm sure a few folk could add:

    FC Haarlem v FC Omniworld

    Skeid v Sarpsborg

I've seen Alloa at home too, but can't for the life of me remember who they played.

  15. I see the problem. I've missed the deadline for SSC members and the sale that is open now is for folk who bought the 4 match package to buy extra tickets.

Will need to wait for the public sale.

Hopefully there are still tickets going in the family section as I wanted to take my daughter to her first game and i'm no paying £40odds for a 3 year old.

There's still loads in the West Stand, and they're doing kids' tickets in both there & the East. The East hasn't been on sale at all that I've seen - I'd imagine that's where the 10,000 free tickets that the SFA have given out are located. I'm taking my nephew to his first game but need to wait for the public sale - I'm not worried about getting a kids ticket though.

Anyone know when the public sale begins?

  16. Good effort :ok:

Not my route anymore. Now doing the following:

27 Aug: Heathrow to Moscow, BA; 4 days there (hoping to get to a CSKA/Spartak/Dynamo game on the Saturday)

31 Aug: Moscow to Yerevan, S7; 2 days there

2 Sep: Yerevan to Tbilisi, Wanderer's happy bus; 3 days there

5 Sep: Tbilisi to Kiev, Ukraine Airlines; 2 days there

7 Sep: Kiev to Heathrow, BA

Then to the pub in Cheltenham to watch the Germany game.

    Can't bloody wait!
