  1. Shinnie is a genuine contender for player of the year. Can't fathom any possible reason why he shouidnt have made at least one of the squads.

Ross McCormack has 20 goals this season for Fulham.

Tony Watt has 7 for Blackburn.

Watt gets called up, McCormack doesn't.

  2. Have no problem with Wallace being in the squad. Likewise Tierney and McGinn.

However none of them should be starting at the moment, even for these friendlies.

They're squad players, take a look at them, get them training and familiar with the other players, maybe a token 20 mins in one of the games.

The two first choice left backs for both squads should be Andy Robertson and Graeme Shinnie. Please not Steven Whittaker.

Very simple I sat in the away end in Germany and in the neutral bit in Gibraltar so I only have 2 points and my sons one has one point the other two are new members so I gambled on it goin to zero points and it didn't pay off but that my fault no one else's my point was very simple why is there a large number of folk creaming themselves over one game when it actually isn't the biggest/most important game of the campaign

So you didn't lose out on tickets to new members - the people you're having a go at?

You lost out on tickets to people who had points, and therefore were existing members?

    Good night though was it?

That would be my one too, easily.

I don't agree we've had bigger wins since though - that was a massive must-win WC match (that we won). We've not had anything like that since.

Did that game not kick-off on the exact same day and even the same kick-off time as England v Netherlands (which was a boring 0-0 draw)?

Two World Cup games would never kick-off at the same time now (save for the final group game), but I'm sure both England and Scotland were on at 9pm that night.

  5. I suppose they have more potential for higher corwds, more income and higher wage bill.

All three highly debatable, and all three highly dependent on how well they're doing on the pitch.

If Aberdeen ever build their new stadium you would have to concede they would have a lot more potential for all of the above than in their current home.

Even then, if stadium is the criteria, then you could argue Hibs currently have more potential than both Hearts and Aberdeen as they don't need to spend anything on theirs, and if they win either cup and get promoted they'll be coming up on a crest of a wave.

It really is arguing about who is the tallest dwarf though as I do think that people are being hopeful when they talk about Rangers coming up and struggling. I reckon they will finish 2nd next season as they will continue to strengthen. And it will won't be long until we revert back to Rangers and Celtic sharing the league title with the rest battling it out for third. So it doesn't really matter who is the biggest team as 3rd place will vary as it has done over the last decade or so.

    Not necessarily.

Celtic are currently outspending everyone and Aberdeen are level with them at the top, so there's nothing to say even both the old firm trying to outspend each other will result in them leaving everyone else behind.

People keep saying Celtic (and Rangers) will start spending huge sums when they're in the same division as each other, as if we're back at the beginning of the SPL when they signed all these big names from Europe.

Celtic ARE spending serious money - is it not something like 22 players and nearly £15 million Ronny Deila has spent? However, the top players aren't interested unless they make the champs league, so it's Ciftci, Kazim Richards, Mackay-Steven and Boyata rather than Hartson, Sutton and Bellamy.

They should still be up at the top, as should Rangers, but Aberdeen are showing - and soon Hearts and maybe Hibs will too - it's not the impossible task getting in about them as it once was.

I fully expect the old firm to be split next season if Rangers come up.

  6. In terms of trophy value (historical) - Aberdeen

    Current Fan base - Hearts

    Team strength - Aberdeen, just

    Current Potential - Hearts

Overall, I have no idea. I'd say fan base and potential sneak it. Hearts woman leader has a guid head on her. I can see her taking them places... Kilmarnock, Inverness and Hamilton amongst places.

Sorry to bump the thread but was just reading through this.

Be interested to know why you think Hearts have more potential than Aberdeen?

  7. It will be the same as the 99 playoff! We'll give them 5000 and they'll gie us 9000 (maybe more)

The play-offs they got 6,500 up here and we got 7,500 at Wembley.

Of course, we had a much smaller SSC membership then. I may be wrong but I think everyone who applied for a ticket got one.

It was also a different stadium of course.

  8. Where does it say everyone would be happy? Not everyone would be happy even if they were a tenner.

ATAC calling for fair pricing or saying their members want cheaper tickets is one thing. But recommending a higher than normal* price? It's not only odd it's not their place to name a price anyway, even if they do have a lot of members.

I've never seen a fans group call for £40 tickets.

Perhaps it's a misprint. Maybe it was meant to say no higher than that price. I would still have suggested they start their negotiations a little lower.

*By normal I mean for games in Scotland usually, not the overpriced tickets in the last campaign.

  9. Bonnie Scotland, we'll support you ever more.

    When was that last sung??????

    Gibraltar away.

Have to say, been thinking this a while. We have "we'll be coming", Doe and Deer and some variant vocalisation of Scotland. and that's it.

We've sung "we'll be coming" to death.

you'd think caledonia would get a belting out at games given it's frequently drunkenly sung at the end of manys a pub closing (especially nowadays)

Was it always like this? What about the older fans - was there chants in the 70s and 80s, even 90s, that we don't sing anymore and should reintroduce?

  10. Who is trying be funny. I am making the very serious point that Aberdeen and Edinburgh are public transport wastelands compared to Glasgow.

    Never mind Perth or Stirling.

You need to get over your subway envy and stop being such a humourless miserable east coaster.

    I'm from Glasgow actually.

A Glaswegian patiently waiting for you to post something funny.

  11. We didn't even have the foresight to bid on our own instead of the clear desperation we displayed by teaming up with the Irish.

May as well have teamed up with the Faroe Islands.

    Thanks Mr McConnell.... Plum.

Bidding on our own wouldn't have made any difference considering the bid essentially was Scotland on its own anyway, with Ireland offering one city and two stadiums.

If you recall, David Taylor had us believing it was neck and neck between us and Austria/Switzerland. In truth, our bid didn't even make it to the final four that were put to a vote.

It was Austria/Switzerland, Hungary, Greece/Turkey and a four-way Nordic bid. Only one was a solo bid so the actual notion of bidding by ourselves giving us more of a chance wasn't really true. Interestingly, Russia didn't make the final four either.

Not only did we not have the stadiums, we didn't have the training facilities to host 15 nations. The Germans go to a major tournament and book (or even build) their own state of the art training camp. They, and most nations probably, would have ended up basing themselves in England which would have been a bit embarrassing.

We also didn't have the transport links (relying on Scotrail would have been a laugh) and essentially the whole tournament would have been held in just four cities.

Was in truth a joke of a bid we put forward.

  12. How many different train stations are there in Glasgow' and her environs?

    Now how many in Edinburgh?

    How many in Aberdeen?

Ohhh that's right they only have minky bus network and no subway.

I mean no subway FFS... surprised they are allowed to claim city status really. Especially Aberdeen.

You weren't even funny the first time.

  13. that's what am sayin 14k looks good inside easter road but it's still only 14k

Considering it was Qatar - not only poor opposition but a controversial choice - and a midweek game, 14,000 was a decent crowd.

It was a perfect opportunity to actually boycott a fixture. Under 5,000 would have embarrassed the SFA.

  14. Was that said in hope? Slovakia, Slovenia and Lithuania have very small stadiums and we'll be looking at allocations in the hundreds rather than thousands.

I was thinking more of the demand as well.

ie Macedonia was an allocation of 1000 but was open to all members.

Likewise Poland and Georgia were not huge allocations but again were open to all members.

With Slovakia in the middle of Malta and Wembley I wouldn't be surprised if the demand isn't that high. Slovenia/Lithuania would expect demand to be about the same as it was for Georgia.

  15. A boycott is more difficult to do than you think.

I never went to Georgia or Ireland,I went to the England game because I wanted to be at one of those games,(hampden wouldve been better, but that couldn't happen),then I took the bairn to his first game against gibralter to break him in easily.

I intended to avoid Germany and Poland too,but I just could t help but go.

Unfortunately, the powers that be know this and are willing to take advantage at every opportunity.

The boycott should be well before the qualifiers anyway, as boycotting during it when ticket prices are already set in stone isn't going to make any difference.

The next time a home friendly is announced it should be boycotted, no matter who the opposition are, the venue or even if cheap tickets are announced for it (because it's not going to be cheap tickets for the qualifiers).

Let Scotland play in an empty stadium for a game that doesn't matter to hit home what it could potentially be like for qualifiers if similar prices are announced.

Personally I think they'll drop prices, but they'll still be overpriced. They'll say £30 and £35, and say "look we've dropped the price for you, responded to the fans" and hope no-one notices that's still more expensive than any SPFL game.

  16. What's the general guesswork for the World Cup qualifiers? How many points for a ticket?

    Malta - 3 points?

    Slovakia - 5 points?

    Wembley - 1 point?

Slovenia - open to all members?

    Lithuania - 2 points?

  17. In this campaign we played at all three, so after experiencing an international at all three Glasgow grounds - which was your favourite?

For me, Ibrox won based on location, mainly it was easier to get there and back.

I don't think there was much difference between all three in terms of atmosphere or facilities.

  18. Kinda let down by the amount of people offering you drugs, it's every few minutes, even when sat in a restaurant.

Sporting tour not as good as Benfica, and not just because it was in Portugese while Benfica fella did his in both languages.

Sporting wouldn't even let us take a photo of us sat at Ryan Gauld's spot in the dressing room.

Lisbon great place though, and generally pretty cheap.

  19. its a bit pathetic that any sportsman cant bring themselves to sing the national anthem of their own country when half of the rest of their team are

how hard is it to mouth the words

    Exactly.

What if the fans didn't bother singing the anthem either?
