  1. To get that draw with New Zealand is an absolutely fantastic result. And it was achieved through passion, guts, toil and effort. Our Rugby League boys could teach the fitba lads a few things. You can see what it means to them...

Really well done to all! There's another video somewhere which shows the lads bashing out Flower of Scotland with real pride.

...and just a small note - that's a mainly English crowd that's cheering Scotland on.

  2. Well that's me and my son just about to leave the house and head down to Coventry to cheer Scotland on. I fully expect England to win but I'm absolutely certain it'll not be for lack of effort from our boys; rugby league players always give everything they have. As your pal from Bradford points out, Morrie, the second game of the day AUS v NZ is likely to be the better match (closer anyway) and I'm very much looking forward to that one, the Aussies play some fantastic rugby league. Whatever happens, I hope you enjoy watching.

  3. The only player who I know for certain was born and raised in Scotland is Batley's Dave Scott.

I agree with irnbruman - Danny Brough is brilliant. Good to have him in the Scotland team.

Unfortunately Australia will be much too strong for us, it may be a case of damage limitation. They are streets ahead of everyone so the result tonight may be a difficult one for us.

  4. I know exactly what you mean. I enjoy club RL as well and the international game isn't generally speaking up to all that much. I decided to go to Coventry not only to give Scotland some support v England but also because that game is followed by Australia v New Zealand which I do think will be a great contest. Do you ever watch any Championship RL? There are some great games played by clubs at that level and the atmosphere is always very welcoming, the fans are great at all the clubs.

  5. The Rugby League Four Nations tournament is due to take place in late October / early November. Scotland will be taking part along with England, Australia and New Zealand. Is this even on anyone's radar? My son and I have tickets for England v Scotland at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Saturday 5th November, a game which will be followed directly by Australia v New Zealand so two great games - £30 for me and £15 for the lad. Great value! I don't expect Scotland will win this game but me and Tam will make sure they get some support!

  6. I was at Wembley for this game. An absolute cracker. Was on the fringes of the Hull FC end and they went absolutely wild when Jamie Shaul went in for that second try. As for Danny Houghton - what a game he had! That tackle at the end was the stuff of legend.

Having only passed through on the Metro before , I thought Id take a wee drive down the coast from Newcastle and have a wee look round Sunderland. What a shytehole - the city centre is horrible - far inferior to any other cities Ive been in. No sign of Mr Fletcher packing his bags at the Stadium of Light

Anyone else visited and got a different opinion in case I missed anything?

No, you've pretty much got it right. The local authority area which carries the name 'Sunderland' has city status but it also includes Washington, quite a large town in its own right, Houghton le Spring and Hetton le Hole. Sunderland itself is not much more than a town really and indeed those who live there always refer to it as 'the town'. Its suburbs are not actually too bad but what lets it down badly is the centre which is an absolute dump. It's actually improved quite a bit in the 23 years that I've been in the area so that gives some indication as to how bad it must have been before. Comparing Sunderland with Newcastle is like comparing apples with oranges; Newcastle is streets ahead and is the major city in north east England. Ten minutes spent in both cities would tell the visitor that straight away. A similar situation exists in neighbouring cties Leeds and Bradford, one flourishing the other dying.

  8. Since leaving Glasgow , I have not driven a car , no need as Skipton has everything within a 5 minute walk away and the friendly Yorkshire people gave me a Bus Pass

Skipton is a great place, you are lucky to live there. I'm from nearby Keighley which, as you'll be aware, has its issues. As a general rule, everything in Yorkshire is brilliant and everything in Lancashire is $hit.
