If you think being top of the powerful and respected French league is a success then woo hoo, great season.
They scraped past Chelsea (9th in the premier league) and lost to Man City who will be thankful if they qualify for next years champions league.
Outside of the Central belt of Scotland, success isn't measured in a weak home league.

Yep, PSG's "galactico" throw money at big names tactic isn't working at all.......
losing to the worst man city side in years...

I like the underdog as much as the next man, but I cant see it as being that much of a good thing.
I can see the Leicester/Athletico Madrid model catching on where hard work and cheap (relatively) players are the new target.
Real (and now PSG) have shown the galactico tactic doesnt work, so chairmen will see it as being more prudent to buy solid defenders and midfielders that can close a game down instead of billion dollar attackers that look great occasionally but dont always win. Barcelona and Bayern seem to be the only teams that have a nice blend of attacking mentality but good team structure.
If Bayern were playing Barcelona on one channel would you watch leicester v athletico on the other side?

Or maybe Leicester were just better than anyone else ?
Their performance on Saturday was superb. Probably one of the best performances of any team this season, and it epitomised everything good about Leicester this season.
Football isn't all about which 100 million£ player can carry a side. Leicester were the complete team this season, they completely deserve to be where they are.
I'm not saying they aren't the best. I was discussing the hype, it's just been more about fairy tales than who eventually was the least shit.
Journalists paid to discuss football (especially sky's) are more likely to say "Best and most exciting thing in the premier leagues history" than "Leicester kings of the the dung heap".
-
Surely the hype is to cover the fact that this has probably been the weakest league since the premier league started despite the extra money?
Sky don't want to highlight that people are paying 40 quid a month to watch Man U draw and arsenal struggle in every away game.
Man U, Man C, Arsenal and Chelsea have been stinking, its a 4 horse race where the four favourites have fell. Leicester winning just shows how samey all the other teams are.
Maybe an element of the rangers and celtic model where the top teams have bought the best players from everyone else so the teams that should have been mid table and should be capitalising on a weak top 4, like southampton weren't good enough to step up.

Not much of a story, did he expect to Henry to say something nasty after the game? He was probably being polite.

Ruth can you sign our balls please?

I like how he keeps going on about Alex Salmond, easier to dredge him up as if he is still a major player than target one of the most popular first ministers ever.
Surprised by how childish and inarticulate he seems, does he have a script writer on TV?

The playoffs are a load of nonsense, Stranraer, Airdrie or the wee Rovers could be promoted this season with a negative goal difference.
Where is the incentive to develop a team when mediocrity can trump a season of hard work if you win the correct matches at the end of the season?
I reckon it should be 2 or 3 straight up and down and the best teams get it.
-
Don't really see the point, if you like it one drink it.
Confirmed when I heard that an old blending whisky made in Airdrie was rediscovered and is now marketed as a collectable single malt.
Seems like people can be fooled by a label

The normal person on the street doesn't care about the centenary, its just an Easter holiday, in fact the news showed disappointed "Irish" Northern Irish tourists that thought there would be a celebration and there was nothing on.
Most people wouldn't find children being shot in the streets by both sides as worth celebrating. There was no clear cut right and wrong and extreme behavior all over including riots and robbing by the winners. The Irish grand national was on yesterday and they said there is a legend they even shot the 1916 winner because the trainer was for the Nos (but they may have just robbed him and threatened his horse as he tried to get home).
Funny how bits of NI and Scotland are more excited by it depending on how you were brought up.
Religon ye cannae whack it

On Off the Ball yesterday they mentioned that there was a photo from a Oban Saints game playing a team in the exact same pink and black kit.
SFA thinking cheap/small as usual

Did I just see Whitehawk of the F*ck knows what Northern Division scoring in the FA cup wearing our bespoke pink adidas shirt?
It looked like an adidas training shirt a pub team saved up to get from a catalogue.

Can you not just wing it and call it Lamb Wellington?
it was certainly rubbery enough (cant get Benny Hill's racist "rubbery" chinese waiter joke out my head now).
-
I tried making scotch pies this week. They were rotten, pretty much lamb burgers in a pie case. I didnt add any noses or anything so the meat content was too high.
Gutted

Exactly they'll be partying in the sunshine in France while we're all sitting in our local pubs around Scotland drinking tenants and watching on TV
But it's ok because Ireland play defensive and we don't..... Aye ok
My point is they didn't play particularly good defensive football, they were lucky and scored on the one occasion they went for goal. They could easily have been beaten by 5+ . Germany were slack and didnt get many shots on target even though they were shooting every two minutes.
We were no worse than ireland or poland but didnt qualify, and its not really the managers fault. Ireland got 4 points from Germany and should have got 0. Poland equalised against us in the last minute with a soft freekick in a perfect position.
In the end aye Georgia screwed us but you could argue it was because we were the only team to get nothing from Germany even though we scored against them and gave it a good go.
At the start of the campaign 4 points against Ireland and 2 v Poland should have got us in the top 3 easy.
Aye its a pain in the erse but throwing the toys out the pram, and demanding a new manager, or saying the standard of players are worse than those above us is just looking for someone to blame.

Well done to the Women's national team. Hopefully they should qualify for their 1st ever finals now.
If the blokes are going to keep f u cking things up, then I will be happy to give the girls my support for the Netherlands in 2017.
If they keep giving tournaments to countries like Russia, Brazil and Qatar, it might be the only chance I have to see Scotland live in finals before I snuff it.
-
Ireland played utter anti football in nearly every match, they played garbage against Georgia too but won thanks to a good goal right at the end, they were piss poor against Germany but the Germans had that "we'll score in a minute" attitude and just kept missing.
They didn't deserve anything but had luck we didn't, they only looked passable against Gibralta and Bosnia. The fact Bosnia were in the play offs and Wales struggled against them shows that Wales are totally reliant on their 1 world class player to get by.
In the finals Ireland will be found out again when they need to come out their box, and Wales are one bad tackle away from being shown up for the journeymen they are.

Craig Brown said that his idea on developing players taken from the French ended up being blocked due to fears of Scottish fitba clubs struggling in Europe.
What has happened since then?
I thought his plan for qualifying was to be always drawn against pishy countries like estonia and scraping by them two nil, then failing miserably once we had more than one average team in our group.
-
From my experience, stereotypes aside, the Irish are healthier, more confident, better educated and have a more collective sense of nationhood than us. The fact that they play rugby, Gaelic football and hurling is probably more of a help than a hindrance.
Every boy and most girls in Ireland get shoved into gaelic football or hurling, anyone with a smidge of talent and coordination will be spotted very early.

I never got that far.
I'd also dispute that it was ever funny.
It wasn't ever funny, or clever you're right.

If you were a monopoly money chairman passing out blank cheques would you accept winning the French League, and being bumped early doors in Europe every year?
Celtic fans don't even accept failure in Europe, a billionaire chairman playing real life champ man isn't going to accept it.
