  1. Ants by any definition Harry are intelligent. Same with a coral reef. And if it was death star then I am guessing they finished it about a thousand years ago plus. So maybe best not to send them a message even by snail mail (i.e. the speed of light).

Na, you could maybe argue that a coalesced hive mind shows intelligence, but individually ants are as clever as individual neutrons.

  2. A decrease of 22% luminosity seems quite a lot considering that exo-planets usually reduce the apparent output by less than 1% if i'm not mistaken.

Even if it's artificial, it may not designate intelligence, it could be some kind of massive-scale equivalent of a coral reef or ant-hill, a complex structure built over time by simple creatures or processes repeating the same tasks for millennia.

I believe SETI have applied to to focus their observations to that part of the sky following this too, will be interesting to see their results.

What would be more scary - a Dyson sphere half-built or one half-destroyed ?

  3. I'll give you the bit the bit about our results they cost us for sure. Ultimately we are responsible for our own ineptitude.

But are you suggesting that a win in Dublin at that stage of the group would not have seen us in a commanding position to the detriment of Ireland?

Yeah, of course it would. But i dont think that's where we lost it.

  4. And where did i4 points against Ireland get us?

Have you not noticed that Ireland took 4 points more than we did against Germany?

Dublin and Tbilisi killed us, so get over it, because it's all there to see.

So you're saying that the 1 point Ireland got from us made them qualify? Bullshit.

It was OUR results against Germany, Georgia and Poland that cost us. NOT the game in Dublin.

  5. WGS isn't the man for the job. The players felt relieved and played with freedom after Hitler Levein got the boot and Strachan benefited with a dead cat bounce. But that's all it was, a short term recovery. Need someone who can instil a winning mentality into the players to grind out results.

Everything the players and ex-players say in the press goes against this.

  6. It's going to be another 5 years at least. World Cups are extremely hard to qualify for these days given the limited places to European countries. If we can't overcome Ireland and Poland what chance Slovakia and Slovenia.

True, and the sad thing is - if i'm not mistaken - the next Euros are all over the place at different cities / countries.

So we might have missed our last realistic chance of going to a single country and camping up for 3 weeks of footballing joy.

  7. The tepid acceptance of a draw in Dublin against an Ireland team that was there for the taking showed us up for what we are.

Job done properly there would have seen way less pressure on the Georgia game which sealed it for me.

Will you stop banging on about the draw in Dublin as our downfall in very thread?

Taking 4 pts out of those 2 games and restricting the irish to only 1 is exactly what we hoped for at the start of the quals in every double header.

The sad thing is the Ireland games were the only ones we DID get the results!

  8. You know what we need? A sports psychologist to change our mentality. It is not bred into us this loser instinct. The odds were against us at Bannockburn. Go now WGS. We dont have the players to play the way you want to.

If anything, Strachan needs to stay and have more input into youth development.

  9. We wouldn't have been confirmed 3rd place though.

It's something I've said many times before. It tends to come out when I'm feeling particularly bitter.

Ah shit! I honestly thought Germany equalised, going by the comments on here. It was a dark 10 mins after the game - I had to switch everything off and go out for a walk.

  10. Scotland is a loser nation with a loser mentality. It's not our fault, it's bred into us. But in all aspects of life from politics (referendum) to sport, we're shown time and again to be bottle merchants. Can't say it's not consistent!

Riiiiiiight... and would you be saying any of that if poland's last kick of the game hadn't went in and we were currently confirmed 3rd place?

  11. Anyone else want to revisit the opinion that a draw in Dublin was a good result?

The Georgia game cost us everything. All we needed to do at the start of the group was not let our 2 rivals Ireland or Poland get more points out of our 2 double headers against them, than we got. And we actually succeeded in that!

It was the 'freak' results elsewhere that cost us.

  12. Ireland for a sneaky winner anyone?

Funnily enough that's what Archie MacPherson predicted on Sportsound the other night. A scotland win, followed by news of an ireland win.
