  1. Ok, sorry.

BBC is a major funder of S4C and has been for about 5 years.

Yes it's a freeview, cable type channel but it's still BBC funded and is an example that if they wanted to they could give us Scotland games  on other channels (Alba would be fine, better than Sky's commentary), but they choose not to.

I know. All of Wales’ qualifiers were on S4C.

    What’s your point?

S4C made a deal with Sky to allow them to broadcast the games in Welsh.

There would be nothing to stop BBC Alba approaching Sky to negotiate a similar deal to broadcast in Gaelic except maybe BBC Alba’s annual budget is about £5 million and S4C’s budget is about £80 million (similar to BBC Scotland’s total budget).

There is no way Sky would allow BBC Scotland or STV to broadcast the Scotland games in English and I doubt either channel would be willing to pay what Sky would ask for anyway.

I’m sure the BBC and STV would have looked into all possibilities if they were interested.

What's my point ? Do I need to explain it?

Who stole the milk out your tea ? ?

Absolute disgrace that Scottish license payers are denied seeing the national team on terrestrial TV.
Whole generation of school kids who might yet (... not) see us qualify to World Cup for first time in 20 years.

Not least when BBC paid out to show the England qualifiers.

I’m sure BBC Scotland and STV would love to show Scotland games live. They just don’t have the budget to outbid Sky.

Although the SFA get a cut of the profits, I’m pretty sure they don’t get a say in who shows the games. UEFA own the rights and they sell them to the highest bidder.

Both of Wales recent qualifying  games were shown live in Welsh on S4C.

The only player I wouldn’t pick from that is Rhodes, otherwise I’d have that squad before any of the tried and failed bunch from strachans era.

Its time to blood these Young’s lads together but keeping Mulgrew, brown and Griffiths there for experience.

Sort of agree, I think McKay & Cummings at Forest would be worth inclusion, I don't really follow English football that closely but they were on the fringes of squads previously and it wouldn't impact on the U-21's as they have a competitive fixture, that should rule out Ralston/McCrorie & Oliver Burke.

I mis-read the post. You would honestly drop our best and arguably our only decent striker because he's a bit of a dick?

Yep, shocking isn't it ? Some things should be bigger than football, he's a racist wee dick  (and as much as I hate it I still cheered his goals. I'm such a hypocrite).

    erm yes, honestly

so if Mckay was a good manager you would feel different? or players can be scum bags but the manager can't?

    honestly?

Did you not read the bit where I said I wouldn't have him in the team ?

awe don;t sulk, I'm merely pointing out that none of us are in a position to judge Mckay because we don't have the first clue whether he's changed or not. If he hasn't then I'm in full agreement with you except wanting Scotland to lose.

What's the test to see if he's "changed" ?

Honestly ? I wouldn't have him in the team, but he's a player - the manager's role is different. I'm sure even you would agree with that.

you don't know that for sure.

Call it an educated guess. He was a 42 year old grown man working in a multicultural industry in 2014, an industry he'd been a part of for decades. All players & managers were involved or at least aware of Show Racism The Red Card types of displays, they've been happening for years. Having played alongside, coached and managed players from many different backgrounds and then come out with the stuff he did, combined with the half-hearted "apology" means he should have been binned. A course doesnt change that.

There's loads of excellent coaches out there, guys with better track records and none of the baggage, this is very poor by the SFA.

Seems odd to me that you describe people that oppose his racist views as closed minded rather than the racist himself.

Too right he’ll have difficulty shaking it off and so he should. His apology was lacklustre at best, I’m sure he caveated it with a comment about it not being illegal.

Yes we all mistakes and we should accept responsibility for them. For Mackay, I think that should include not being involved in the Scotland set up. Is he such a catch he’s worth the baggage?

You say the fans and players wouldn’t give a feck, I disagree. You might not care if our national game has a bigot for a manager but you can’t speak for everyone (eg. Anya?).

Cmon, the snowflake patter belongs in a Katie Hopkins (is that her name?) column.

Well said Sir. I for one am very unhappy that mackay was brought in to oversee our future development never mind take charge of the team. Going on some wee course won't have changed him at all and for the 1st time in my entire life I hope we lose when we play against the Dutch, as long as it means the guy doesn't get the job full time.

If Regan et al do appoint him I won't be back while he's in charge.

Armstrong should be the first name on the teamsheet and one of the last players you should be putting in front of him is Ryan Jack!  Jack is nowhere near Armstrong's class - absolutely nowhere near it.  We need to pick our best players and that means Armstrong.  You're right about Shinnie though and he should get a call-up when Strachan disappears.

It's all about opinions, I think McGinn & Armstrong wouldn't balance the midfield the way Jack would  (this is with Brown as well remember). If we don't look for balance then we just end up shoehorning players into positions that they don't normally play. McGinn & Armstrong occupy a lot of the same spaces for their clubs.

  12. I'd like to see Brown with McGinn and Jack in the middle. I just think that would be a very good blend of abilities. I can understand those who prefer Armstrong for example but I would like to see it tried. I'd also give Shinnie at Aberdeen a go.

  13. I would have preferred a more intelligent footballer than Forrest, someone like Naismith who at least knows when to hold his position and when to get into the box. As everything we did in the 2nd half came down the left then getting into the back post became important, nobody did it well.

We played Martin up top and got into an arm wrestle with 2 big strong centre backs, a bad choice by Strachan.

  14. I have no idea what we learned tonight, I can accept Mulgrew as a holding midfielder but not in the back 4.

    D. Fletcher & McArthur = great effort but not much creativity.  Anya might have lost 1/2 a yard :( and we really miss Maloney.

    S. Fletcher is going to be the main forward...

  15. I doubt if anyone thought Ireland would take 4 from Germany. Our game in Georgia and the strange performance in Dublin are the 2. I was counting up the goals we've scored and against whom, Georgia we scored 1 (pretty jammy) goal. All the others were 3,4 or 12 :) Now, there was something about Georgia that we couldn't deal with and it's obvious..we couldn't play counter attack. That's the Plan B we need, fast, because Slovenia&Slovakia will pose exactly the same problem.

  16. I think over the course he has proven his critics wrong this campaign. Folk will write off his accomplishments as goals against minnows, but he also scored what could have been a massive goal on Thursday and contributed with assists too.

Agreed. He plays as a Forward (as opposed to a striker) & his role is holding up the ball, bringing others into the game in the last 3rd and creating chances for runners from deep (Anya v Germany). He can score goals too, but not as many as a Griffiths/Rhodes might. He's in the team because we create more with him up front than we would with either of the others.
