Does this mean that whatever we raise in taxes, and is subsequently taken off the block grant, the money taken off remains at Westminster? Are we effectively taxing scotland to help fund Westminster even more? Is that right or have i got it all wrong?
-
Apparently any money raised from new tax powers will be taken off the amount given to us in the block grant. So. We will just be the same then? How is that an extra power?
It is becoming a fkn joke......

From him personally making 'a vow' to him now urging 'others to sign a petition' in less than 3 weeks.
Imagine how you would feel right now if you voted No on the back of this guy's lies? :shudder:
A fella I work with did and he bitterly regrets it now, even tho we told him beforehand it will all fall to pieces. He was convinced the extra powers would come and chose to vote on that principle. There must be lots more like that.

This.We have to realise that there is a movement out there to try and kill any form of Scottish nationalism...whether full independence or even increased powers....stone dead.
Many No voters resent the fact that a No vote has done nothing to quell the independence movement.
There's a fight to be had here.
There are unionists who wish we would just disappear. They have been banging the union drum a long time. We almost upset their world and will do whatever they can to try and stamp us down.
Yes will receive a lot of grief and abuse from some hard liners.

Does anyone else feel there will be more Tory MP's in Scotland after the next general election?. Labour is dead in Scotland. Most No voters won't vote SNP, which leaves the unionist choice of conservative. They are already planning to target scottish voters....
Another kick in the teeth for us. Not only did we vote no, but we could get more Tories.....
-
At first I felt we needed to hide for a wee while and gather our strength, but I have changed my mind. Everything that has happened in the past week from Westminster, (fracking to funding cuts to a new war etc) is a series of kicks in the teeth. With the talks due to happen on any powers, the yes campaign need to be visible as a reminder

I work with a no voting woman who said her life was good, she and her husband were well off and didnt want that to be changed. When I asked her about the cuts to funding that are coming from Westminster, she replied it won't affect her in any way because she is doing well. When it was pointed out the cuts will have an effect, especially on poorer people, she thought I was talking nonsense and told me the cuts won't affect anyone!!! That is what we are up against.

This is what you voted for.
Embrace it, welcome it.
Suck it up.
Where's Alan?
I didn't vote for it. I voted yes. My point is the union are asking us to accept the vote and move on, yet the mail continues to barb the SNP, which will anger the now 62,0000 and cause the division the union dont want to see. I just don't think they get it at all, unless it is their plan to rankle disaffected yes supporters.....
-
Dunno, we need to keep a collective group of Yessers busy, keep the movement simmering. Looks good turnout from today.
Have to admit, quite impressive....
-
Whilst this still exists with the media, it throws out the argument of working together to move forward with the no vote, which is the very thing we are all expected to do. It is alienating, divisive and gives reason to resist the outcome. This sort of journalism does nothing for the country except fire up resentment.
-
I dont read the mail, but it was open at my work. The mail today reports "now SNP seeks full control of fracking" and have written the article as if that is a bad thing. The UK government want to remove the right for scottish homeowners to object to drilling under their homes. The scottish government want to have control of issuing licenses and believe the decisions of where to drill should be made in Scotland, not London.
It is a perfect example of attacking SNP for the sake of it and twisting facts to meet an anti- SNP agenda.

Michelle mone. The woman who banged on about the yes vote being bad for business, whilst her own business was going down the tubes and needed financial assistance under the glorious union!!!! It beggars belief she still had the brass neck to spout the stuff she did knowing all this would spill out like double d's in a b cup......

As much as i agree with keeping the embers glowing, i also feel we need to keep our heads down for a wee while. Accusations of not accepting the vote will be thrown, which will only wind no voters up and make it hard to pull people onside. Show patience until the time is right.
-
Well said. The no vote has only made us stronger and more determined. It will come, we just need to be patient.
-
The shiny big nosed burd on QT did not want any more powers and will always vote No
Id like to think that most No voters did want change but wanted change within the UK - but there are folk like her that didnt
Those that have no interest in any change and do not want to see powers that can make Scotland a better place by improving the economy etc i just cannot fathom
maybe someone can explain it
I thought that too. It's hard to fathom someone living in a country who doesn't want any change, even if it would be for the better. The promises were supposed to woo voters, but she didnt want that. She just didnt want an independent scotland. Full stop. There are a lot of people like that, on both sides.

No votin inbreds by the look of them.....

I think we all know where this is going......

Aren't the figures within England hugely variable as well ?
E.g. someone Yorkshire gets a fraction compared to someone in London ?
So the are "regional" differences throughout the UK ?
I believe there may be areas of inner English cities which receive heavy subsidies.....
-
WM are obviously looking for support from English voters to justify the cuts and, surprise surprise, use the BBC to put out the message without mentioning our financial input to the treasury.....
-
BBC news doing a piece just now on the "generous funding" Scotland receives compared to the rest of England. One woman said " it should be fairly divided to all sides." Here we go.......
-
Ha ha. Membership rise proportional to all of the above? I def think so. The more Westminster and labour do, the more SNP gains....
-
In less than a week since the vote, we have had threats to cut Scotland's funding; no sign of the promised powers or a timetable; more oil in scottish waters that can be extracted; Westminster mp's gathering to exclude scottish mp's from English voting, therefore creating an English parliament; the Labour Party talking about the threat to privatisation of the nhs; the prime minister letting the cat out the bag about what the queen wanted from the referendum and we are about to be led into another war.
Did I miss anything? What a week, none of it positive for Scotland......

This.
The currency issue was the master stroke from WM. once they realised how much fear a denial could generate, it became a mantra for every one of them and it worked. Jim Murphy just repeated it in a loop, so did douglas Alexander, alistair darling, Johann lament, etc. No matter how hard yes tried, it was thrown back and it did cause a massive amount of uncertainty. No voters started to repeat it ad nauseam. Currency union gubbed us.
We need to be prepared next time and have an answer that doesn't rely on Westminster involvement or approval. Our own currency could be the answer.
Ps we might not need answers the next time cos the way things are going, Westminster and Cameron are doing all the work for us. Some no voters are regretting their decision already.....

true. at one point in Germany we had anya, fletcher and naismith all up front. that is a potent forward line. defensively we are poor, but we carry a goal threat.
