Goal difference is very unlikely to matter if we end up on the same points as Slovakia.  The teams are separated by the head-to-head results first.  Unless we beat them 3-0, goal difference won't come in to consideration.

It's why we need to win both games.  A win vs Slovakia and a draw vs Slovenia will put us on 18pts, which is where Slovakia will finish after beating Malta in their last game. In that scenario we would also have the worry of missing out as the worst runner-up, even if we had somehow managed to beat Slovakia 4-0 to finish second, for example.  Now, even by our usual standards that really would be a kick in the baws...

Was sort of my original point. If we pushed to get another couple against the "easier" teams then the goal difference would be less of a worry/issue than it is just now to finish second. There is nothing we can really do about the worst runner-up situation, given our history you can see it happening though!

In order to turn the goal difference around, would we not have needed to win 7-0 against Malta?
Is it realistic to be frustrated that we didn't try and score 5 in the last 20 minutes?

Just wondering if you're setting your bar in the right place.

I wasn't looking for us to make up the full difference alone via the Malta game. When we beat Slovakia, every goal we beat them by our difference is closed by 2 (if we beat them 2-0 our goal difference goes level with theirs). Would have been nice to get another couple against Malta to close the difference a bit and make that part of the task a bit easier.

All assuming we beat Slovakia of course. If we don't then this all doesn't matter.

  3. Goal difference is still a major part of this group if we draw the Slovenia game. I thought the team and management would have worked that out but the intensity seemed to drop towards the end of the game which was frustrating.

I really hope this doesn't happen but if you presume England win their remaining games and Malta lose their remaining games:

If we beat Slovakia (by 1 goal) and draw with Slovenia we end up on same points as Slovakia - we drop to third on goal difference by 3 goals....

    Are you American?

I'm not sure if your question is in response to my statement but I feel like I might have struck a chord so I'll try explain a bit further.

I wasn't taking a direct shot at you; I was just saying my piece on the criticism this fight seems to be generating.

Personally, I am not buying the event as I am not really interested in the outcome of the fight but I am curious in how the fight will play out technically. As a fan of MMA it will be interesting to me to see what will actually happen; early round KO for Mayweather like a lot are predicting? Will McGregor actually land any significant punches / surprise people with a competitive few rounds? If he does connect, will McGregor's punches do as much damage as they do in UFC? If it goes long who has the better stamina- the guy coming out of retirement or the guy used to fighting 5x 5minute rounds? Both striking, counter striking and defensive styles are interesting too. I'll most probably wait and see what happens before deciding if I'll watch it or not. Due to the above reasons I must have taken offense as being labelled an eejit for being interested in the fight so I apologies for jumping in and saying my piece as a direct response to you.

I am in complete agreement with what a lot of people have already said that the promotion and hype for this has gone way beyond what it ever needed to be. But that is probably due to the huge amounts of money they have got to spend on promoting through adverts, tv specials, allotted time on sky sports news, articles on bbc etc. They are getting a lot of backlash from boxing fans and MMA fans who are washing their hands of it so I think a lot of the promotion is being aimed at the casual fans as opposed to the fans of each sport.

If it doesn't live up to the hype in terms of excitement then they will only receive even more backlash with everything they have done in the lead up to it. But I guess they both won't mind if they are pocketing $100million each. I completely agree with what you mentioned earlier in that they are probably friends and will hug and shake hands after the fight and have a lot of respect for each other etc.

Who knows, it might all be pr-determined already and might have everything and kitchen sink thrown in:lol:. Or it might be a multi round bore fest with neither wanting to swing and maybe make a mistake, who knows.

Again, didn't mean to offend anyone :beer2:. Each to their own I guess.

They both win no matter the outcome. It's an absolute sham and has been concocted to appeal to the biggest wallopers around. Eejits paying for a pre-rehearsed load of pantomime need their heads checked. It's no better than a Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair thing.

Are people who pay for "pre-rehearsed loads of pantomime" like DVD box-sets, cinema tickets, theatre tickets or TV packages and subscription channels eejits too?

It sounds like your criticizing people who are choosing to pay, watch and hopefully be entertained a certain form of entertainment. By throwing it in with "a Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair thing" you are throwing it in with all other forms of entertainment so I really don't see why people should be criticized for watching or wanting to know the outcome. The world is a big place with a lot of people with a lot of different tastes in entertainment. By the sounds of the early buy-rate predictions this seems to be quite a popular choice of entertainment for a lot of people.

  7. Fletcher will play and captain tonight, Brown will play and captain Sunday.

Would like to pick about 9 midfielders (not including ^), Tierney and Robertson given the squad but unfortunately we need a keeper and some center backs.

Expected to be the worst home attendance since Wales at Cappielow in 1902!

Interesting sentence in this article and something I actually hadn't thought about,

" It also fulfils their obligations to Sky Sports to provide a fixed number of internationals for broadcast. "

Even if the manager doesn't see the need/want to play extra fixtures (friendlies) they might have to in order to hit their Sky quota?

  9. Agree about Bardsley, there must be something up. Was he at Rangers when Strachan was at Celtic??

Is Adam an any better option that what we have in the squad already? Will he get game time if he gets called up now? Lucky for us our midfield is looking quite decent so its a hard one to choose whether the call up is necessary. I'm sure hes on the radar unless theres a Bardsley-like situation going on.

  10. 3 regulars to home games are a 'no' for this one. Watching in the pub instead, and the football isn't even the main reason we are meeting up. Recent performances, costs and constant let-downs are taking their toll...

  11. Can you see him doing anything different? It depends really what happens in the Canada game, he could go Fletcher & ? for Canada then Brown & McArthur for Slovenia. Who knows. Theres so many options: hes got 20 players playing for (potentially) 6 positions.

Scotland squad: Gordon (Celtic), Marshall (Hull), McGregor (Cardiff on loan from Hull; Berra (Ipswich), Mulgrew (Blackburn) Hanley (Newcastle), R Martin (Norwich), Wallace (Rangers); Tierney (Celtic), Robertson (Hull); Anya (Derby), Bannan (Sheffield Wednesday), Brown (Celtic), Armstrong (Celtic), Burke (Leipzig), D Fletcher (West Brom), Forrest (Celtic), Cairney (Fulham), Fraser (Bournemouth), McArthur (Crystal Palace), McGinn (Hibernian), Morrison (West Brom), Phillips (West Brom) Ritchie (Newcastle); Snodgrass (West Ham); S Fletcher (Sheffield Wednesday), Griffiths (Celtic), Naismith (Norwich), C Martin (Fulham on loan from Derby) Jordan Rhodes (Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Middlesbrough).

He wont do it but seeing as the Chelsea 3-4-3 is flavor of the month for some clubs:

    GK

    R Martin, Berra, Wallace

    Anya, Brown, Fletcher, Tierney

    Armstrong, ST, Fraser

Easily becomes a 5-4-1 when defending. When attacking we still keep 3 back plus a midfielder in-front for cover and plenty going forward. Gives our best assets (attacking full backs) more freedom.

  13. Anya didn't do anything drastically bad against England so unless there is a friendly and they experiment with someone else who plays a blinder then can't see anyone other than Anya playing right back.

For me Armstrong is more an attacking mid than a central, holding one beside Brown. I would put McArthur in with Brown, and Armstrong in a 3 with Burke and Snodgrass behind a striker.

And Matt Philips and George Boyd deserve to be in the squad at least too

Hope no-one minds a request for a bit of advice? I'm after a new running watch but don't do enough to really justify one of the top of the range devices. Instead, I've been looking at the kind of hybrid watches in between the basic fitbit and the proper watch. Ideally I'd like something with GPS which provides decent enough stats without having to spend a fortune. I've been looking at the Garmin Vivosmart HR+ but before I take the plunge I was wondering if anyone on here has any useful advice? Cheers!

If your only really looking for a GPS, calorie counter, speed, distance counter etc and you use your smart phone there are loads of free apps you could use instead of buying a watch that just gives u the same info. I've been using 'runtastic' for years and gives me everything I really need. Even the free version gives you the stats I've listed above and stores each individual run. I still just strap my phone to my arm even if I'm not using my phone to listen to anything.

Like someone said above unless you are closely monitoring your distance and speed while running then watches are obviously easier but I would recommend looking at all the freebies available to see if they suit what you are looking for before throwing money at anything.

Argyle St, Glasgow are on the ball with it.

It was different shops, Silverburn to buy it and then Braehead to get it printed. Had the receipt but they said it still didn't work. Ill go back with both receipts and see what happens
