Here's a question. Is it normal for the ballot papers in the polling station to look different to the postals?
There's an official mark used for ballot papers issued for postal voting which is different from that used by people voting in person at polling stations.
-
Yeah. Its not true. Fslkirk Council confirmed as much. Even if they had 100% of expected walk-in voters, they must stay open in case any postal votes are handed in.
Also to avoid the scenario of someone voting in someone else's name & the correct person then turning up.
-
what is the logic of pencils and no pens?
I was sure I had read this morning that they were wax based pencils, not your normal lead type which can be rubbed out. Possibly.
The provision of pencils in polling booths is a requirement under section 206 of the Electoral Act.
There's nothing to stop you using a pen.
Pencils are used because pens could run out of ink whereas pencils are checked throughout the day to make sure they aren't blunt or broken.
They also work better in countries with a hot climate so it's not just the UK that does this.
As for tampering with ballot papers - the storage, carriage & counting of ballot papers is under scrutiny at all times
The ballot boxes are sealed by the Presiding Officer & unsealed by the Returning Officer (or at least their staff) at the time of the count when the papers themselves are counted to make sure they tally with the votes cast according to the register, before staff begin sorting & counting.

Stick your suspicious rumours in here....
Just seen on twitter in Hamilton West voters are being told not to put their papers in the ballot box but to leave them folded on top of it instead....

Where have Betfair got the information from? On the thread about postal votes we've established that someone's (innocently granted) already talking about how they're looking. If Betfair have got someone on the inside we've got a fiasco on our hands, because what else is going on?
You do know that postal votes are opened before the day of the polls?
Did you know that people actually open the envelopes.
Did not know that the opened voting papers are placed on the desk in front of you (albeit face down, you can still see the cross 80% of the time).
Did you also not know that candidates or their agents sit opposite the people opening the envelopes trying to see how folks have voted in order to get a snapshot of the marginal seats.
Guess what they do with that information?
I realise that this is different to a local or general election but both camps will have representatives there to ensure 'fair play'.
The people who sort the ballot papers have a vote & I'm fairly confident they'll be interested in which way it's going?
My guess is, not everybody will keep that information to themselves.

Louden Tavern on Govan Road is one of the best pubs in all of Glasgow.
No such place.
Did you mean Bells Bar, Brechin Bar, Fairfields Bar, the Harmony or Richards Bar perhaps?
-
That's just spiteful you horrid, horrid man (I assume).
Or Port France Paddy here Glasgow we come Bhoy (for 'short')
-
Big deal.
You should know the script by now.
Everytime there's a lull in the conversation somebody shouts 'Rangers.'
it's a bit like tourettes.
-
Yes, they should have bout at least 2 very good defenders. I'll bet that they tried for some but didn't get them, for a number of reasons.
But.
Falcao is a superb player, bangs goals in for fun and is commonly known as world class. Like LVG said, when a player like Falcao comes available, you don't pass it up.
Time will tell if he is a waste of money. I sincerely doubt it.
City & Real Madrid did exactly that though.
As did Martin O'Neill when he was at Aston Villa.
Signed Emiley Heskey instead.
How did that song go again?
If Heskey plays for England so can I

Going to have to disagree on Heartbreaker.Quad for me is the better album IMO, but I can fully understand why Who's Next would be the popular choice.
Ach, f*** it, put both of them in there, they are both worthy.
Whereas after your comment, I listened to both Tons of Sobs and Heartbreaker this afternoon, and to my ears Heartbreaker is vastly superior.
P.S. Not an album, but a timeless song: Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me
They weren't even Free really by that time. Andy Fraser had left the band & Paul Kossof was a drug-addled mess.
Four years between the albums too makes for a difficult comparison as the group had changed so much by then.
For me, there's nothing on Heartbreaker anywhere as good as Walk in my Shadow.
Musics all about personal taste though.

Good trip. Flew from Stansted into Dortmund. Stayed in small town called Witten about 10mls from Dortmund. Locals very friendly as expected.
Guy directed us to a nice Portuguese restaurant where we spent most of Sat evening chatting to the owner about Bayern Munich, Benfica & football in general. He was also aware that we hadn't lost a game for 12 months & thought we might have a chance.
Everywhere we went both in Witten & Dortmund, we were met with nods & smiles & offers of help when buying tickets at the station.
The free transport with the match ticket was a good idea although I'm not sure how they'd have coped trying to check tickets after the game.
Dortmund on matchday was good in the bars & a great atmosphere in the square just off the main one.
Only got one injury, when two guys were standing, singing on the bench seat then the guy sat at the other end got up & wandered off causing the bench to upend catapulting the two guys into the air & the bench straight into my shins.
It hurt the next day!
Transport was easy getting back from the ground & got the subway back to the main station then the Dusseldorf train back to Witten.
Met some German fans in the hotel bar when got back & spent a pleasant night/morning with them.
The first thing they said as we walked in was that the referee was their best player.
Came over as we were sitting at breakfast & said cheerio then wished us luck for the rest of the tournament.
Great hosts, friendly & good sense of humour.
Only downside was hanging around Dusseldorf waiting for the 5.30pm flight back for the sake of saving something like £30.
-
For me the first one on Naismith was a foul & a red card, in fact they were fortunate not to have two sent off.
Charlie Mulgrew's was a joke.
Was drinking with some German fans back at the hotel & the first thing they said as we sat at the bar was "Our best player tonight was the referee. He did not give you any favours. If it was our team I would be angry."

Aye storms were forecast but warm & sunny yesterday.Mega thunderstorms here in Berlin right now.
Looks like Dortmund will be dry and mild for the game but
Just outside Dortmund in Witten.
Some function on at the hotel last night complete with 3 large female German pipers which was a bit surreal.
Bit overcast here but looks like sun fighting to break through. Heading back into Dortmund shortly to the square.
Looking fwd to a great day & hopefully result.
Got a feeling we might snatch an honourable draw. Locals I spoke to didn't seem that confident & stung by Argentina result. They could have just have been being polite of course.
