Japan were the better team. They battered our goal for pretty much the entire match but Neil Alexander was superb in goal for us. Stopped everything. And that was the third and final time he ever played for Scotland !

Looked up these old BBC articles on our Kirin Cup triumph that stunned the world.......

Forgot that Strachan pulled Maloney, McManus and Marshall out of the original squad so they could play in Roy Keane's and Alan Shearer's testimonial games ! - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4756057.stm

Hearts were in the Scottish Cup Final and none of their players were available. Kenny Miller must have been injured.

This was the squad Smith went with - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4960894.stm

 I  imagine no one outside the teams that played have heard of it. I reckon Scotland are the only team that remember it now.
