TDYER63
I had to use google as the songs I know were banned have already been mentioned. The BBC banned songs for loads of reasons. They even banned songs during the war for being too sentimental. They banned this because one of the lines mentioned Marks and Spencer and breached advertising rules. This was banned during the Gulf War.
TDYER63
On The Ed Sullivan Show, the band was initially refused permission to perform the number. Sullivan himself even told Jagger, "Either the song goes or you go".[7] A compromise was reached to substitute the words "let's spend some time together" in place of "let's spend the night together"; Jagger agreed to change the lyrics but ostentatiously rolled his eyes at the TV camera while singing them, as did Bill Wyman. When the Rolling Stones, following their performance of the song, returned on stage, they were all dressed up in Nazi uniforms with swastikas, which caused Sullivan to angrily order them to return to their dressing rooms to change back into their performance clothes, at which point they left the studio altogether.[8] As a result of this incident, Sullivan announced that the Rolling Stones would be banned from performing on his show again.[8]However, the Stones did appear on the show again and performed three songs on 23 November 1969.[9]

Huddersfield
Sadly, the first song that came into my head that was banned was Yankee Dollar by the Andrews Sisters for mentioning Coca-Cola. Not quite a ban as such, more censorship, but Elvis was forced to sing Hound Dog to an actual dog on a table so that viewers couldn’t see him from the waist down...something that must have riled him as he frequently mentioned it in his ‘drugged up in Vegas’ period. Anyway, to regain some musical credibility, I’m pretty sure this has been banned in it’s time.
fringo
Have we had these two yet ? I'm pretty sure they were both originally banned (from TV anyway)

Eisegerwind
To paraphrase Nietzsche or Sartre, or was it someone else, "I'm just trying to shoehorn the same limited tunes into every category", wise words.
