Trump would have done nothing to win over centre voters. No doubt his core loved it but they won't be enough to win him a second term.

Biden isn't great, I'd really struggle to vote for him if I was American. 50 years in politics, 8 years as VP, give it up man! Pelosi too! Go retire and enjoy what's left of life. People will have watched that and will be uninspired by both, but Trump was so bad and more boorish than usual they'll pull the lever for Biden just to end four more years of him.

Trump's plan was to rile Biden about his son and it didn't work. I think he was hoping for a meltdown.

He may well hold Ohio, Iowa and Florida again but I think in the likes of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan enough people will be motivated to vote him out.

He's already making noises he'll take defeat to the supreme court and why he is so keen to get his own candidate in before election to replace Ruth Bader Ginsberg.  The court was already 5 vs 4 in conservative favour until Ginsberg's death.  Ginsberg was instrumental in passing bills on female rights, allowing same sex marriage and health care.  Trump's nomination on the other hand is a little different:

There's a guy on twitter who suspected he would have it after Hope Hicks contracted it. Knowing that the whitehouse wouldn't confirm it till ready he started monitoring air traffic for E-6B Mercury's off both coasts. His reasoning being they're part of the continuation of government operation as they can relay messages to subs (and all armed forces) to use nukes etc and get deployed when the White house is "compromised". He found them operation on both costs and called it before the news came out.

Given that Trump was trailing in the polls to the worst candidate the Democrats could find after four years of looking, I'm moved to speculate about whether Trump's Covid is a hoax designed to win a sympathy vote - och, the puir auld sowel's no weel.

Key states appear to be, in particular, Pennsylvania (Biden polling somewhere around 5% ahead) and Florida (neck and neck). If one candidate can take both these States, it's unlikely the won't win. 

Trump's campaign are already talking of declaring victory if they're ahead on the early count, in an attempt to delegitimise remaining postal votes that haven't yet been counted. A quote shameful tactic which completely betrays the democratic ideals that the USA claims to stand for. 

Whatever happens, the fall out over the next few months will not be pretty. Trump won't go quietly and, if he wins again, I can see both he and the lunatics in his support becoming emboldened in their rhetoric and their actions.

It's mad how many folk have voted already. Texas in particular by county has already had more than 120% of the votes as last time. Some activists tried to get 130,000 votes chucked out in Harris county but the republican appointed judges were having none of it.

Yeah wanting to stop counting at midnight in Pennsylvania with the assumption that the mail ballots won't be processed and counted and they are majority Democrat so Trump would win isn't democracy. I guess the campaign is worried. Like the boxer that starts fouling or hitting after the bell etc.

Yeah, I've been listening to the 538 podcasts the last week or so too. Very informative and, as you say, pretty neutral. With the exception of how scathing they've been on the Trump campaign's anti-democratic tactics. 

Theres been a lot of talk of the under-weighting of education in polls last time around (which led to an underplaying of the Trump vote) and how this has now been corrected. We'll see if the pollsters' deeds are as good as their words in around 24 hours time.
