jimstroma
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35289771 Jobs going at BP I believe alot of the jobs will be agency staff on large salaries to reduce the wage bill. With a few projects coming up I am sure there will be more jobs popping up on reduced terms soon.
thplinth
I don't think Aberdeen will ever produce great techno. Dunno they can speak really fast using their own quasi language. If they could wed it to some tunes a new genre could be born. (Minkno?)

And there you have pretty much the entire Shamen back catalogue. Not dissimilar to aberdeen's historical literary output. Apart from that one about the old farmer who wanted to shag his daughter. That was class.
exile
Not a problem - the broad shoulders of the UK will deal with that. I'm not so sure. BBC news item there, by Sarah Smith, didn't mention those Broad Shoulders...
adamntg
Word out of Angola from ex-colleagues is that things have gone badly tits up. But it was an appallingly run country with zero Plan B, and most of Plan A involved lining the pockets of the kleptocracy. Yep, lucky we stuck our windfall in an oil fund and didn't use it to find tax cuts for the rich.

Flora MaDonald
In effect, this is the doing of Cameron's best mates, the Saudi's, and their objections to fracking. Surely the broad shoulders of the UK could be doing more.

Wee guy fe Dundee basically said "Phuqq them, they earned heaps in the good times - welcome to the real world". Heard that. Think the guy was being a bit harsh but understand the sentiment, and it has been expressed on here. Still feel sorry for anyone losing their job, but those on very good money are better able to save some for just such a situation. The other issue is how much the government should do. How much have they done for other industries who have been laying folk off - steel, retailers etc......

EvilScotsman
Meanwhile, 200 odd police from Wales, Manchester and Liverpool attend to assist IGas bailiffs in the removal of protestors from a proposed fracking site at Upton near Chester - 86% of local residents oppose the field being fracked, and the local council rejected the application, only for it to be called in by central government. The Old Bill's main contribution was removing press and protestors from the public road outside the camp. All those arrested have been released as of last night, bar one who is refusing to give his name. http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/recap-updates-upton-anti-fracking-10720261
hampden_loon2878
To me it seems there is something much larger at play here,,, people are going on about the Saudis going after the fraking but that doesn't add up as they are so much in deficit, even if they do get the rig count down on the fracking front it will only be temporary,,, when the price of oil rises then so will the rig count of the mobile fracking facilities...could it be the Americans are in fact going after the suadis? Maybe they have too much power for their liking!! And as a bonus it wrecks the Russian economy in the process
EddardStark
Best defeat ever for separatism in an independence referendum. SNP must be sighing with relief although the this slump may not have impacted on deficit due to time lag between vote and separation. Yes, the squandering of generations of oil revenue to pay for the dismantling of industries in Scotland without adequate replacement really is a winning argument against Scotland having control of her own resources. ETA - it's strange how Norway seems to cope pretty well with the volatility of oil prices despite the absence of the broad shoulders of the UK.
