Looking for a car, thinking less than £10k, and no more than a couple of years old. Recommendations?

Two I've looked at are the Fiesta with the 1.0 echo boost engine and the Hyundai i10 1.2. Not going to do many long runs in it, occasionally up to about 100miles but not any longer drives. Really couldn't give a monkeys about hugely sporty performance so long as it's reasonably responsive. Don't drive much over 70 on the motorway either. Low tax and running costs and emissions. Probably look to have it for three or four years and then upgrade.

Guy at my work has a Fiesta that i`m pretty sure you don`t need road tax for.

get down the casino for some roulette action, stick the 10k on black, if you win - buy a guid 2nd hand car, if you lose - get the bus.

Both the cars you've looked at sound completely shite.

What about a 12 year old Audi A2 tdi for £1-1.5k, great fuel economy and £30 tax, aluminium body so never rusts, cult fanbase with all the maintenance advice you could ever want, modern classic that still looks good on the road today?

Because I don't need a cock extension.

Depends whether he's a hairdresser (1.8,2.0) or wants to get 20mpg(3.2).

That's so out of date. The TT is a fantastic sports car (the original model wasn't a good handler though). Superb refinement and handling with the Mark 2. There's no 3.2 engine after the Mark 1 I don't think - there is a 2.5 five cylinder in the more powerful models.

A Fiesta is an OK shout. Not the best built but Fords are a lot better than they used to be. Cheap to run and insure.

Before Angus_Young Jr arrived we also had a Fiesta. Granted it was one of the sporty, Zetec numbers but, it really was a cracking motor. Very reliable and cheap as hell to run. Only thing that was any expense was tyres but , as mentioned that was our choice to go for that model. In terms of how it ran etc it was spot on..

There are cars that are cock extensions and cars that represent penis removal

What you want is something in between unless you are at mid life crisis time

I got a 3 litre Mercedes CLK coupe that does 0-60 in 7 seconds.

Its also red

Think that speaks volumes ........

In all seriousness Biffer if you use your car for getting to and from work and you have a bit of a journey (im a 25 mile round trip) or hate driving in the main then getting a motor that gives you a bit of enjoyment makes going to work in the morning less of a pisser

Thats probably the best advice i can give apart from all motors cost money and theres not that much difference in the long run when you weigh up the reliability particularly of german engineering against the cheapness of parts for lesser makes

If you dont fancy any of the cars that James Glen has at the moment then he has new quality stock regularly.

Folk travel from all over the UK to buy his executive cars because of his reputation

To be honest I've got a fairly short drive to work, its all in town and takes 20-25 minutes, but twice that and more on the bus. So for commuting its a wee city car I want, but I want.to be able to do the occasional longer run to visit family - rarely more than 70 miles. So something sporty, or a great driving car is pretty pointless for me. Hence looking at the wee things.
