snoopyhill Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 We got kicked of this flight due to Turkish Airways overbooking. After 1 1/2 arguing we are now definitely on the 00:10. See you all tomorrow!

tam4ritchie Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 How fukk can they overbooked a flight??Most major airlines overbook by about 10%. Happened to me on the way to Moldova, had to go to Amsterdam. Also on the way to Lithuania, had to go via Copenhagen
thewelk Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 What kind of compo did they give you? Usually it's quite good for overbooking.
snoopyhill Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 Apparently it happens all the time. 7 of us at the gate with no seat numbers on our boarding cards. 1 lad was getting on and his wife wasn't, luckily they managed to get her a seat so they could get on board
snoopyhill Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 Compo was a voucher for a meal in burger king but only 1 of 2 options we get cash compensation after making a claim. I don't know how much we also got the offer of a hotel to wait in, binned that and paid to go in the prime class lounge
washboarder Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 which leg off your journey did this happen
thewelk Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 All airlines overbook by about 20% because on average 20% of booked passengers don't show up. Find that quite hard to believe but apparently it's true! A burger king voucher isn't really up to scratch. I think under Turkish law you're entitled to 250 euro (or whatever that is in lira) for each passenger. Even in cash if you push it. Might be worth a wee trip to the desk.
fringo Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Happened to some of our group of 6 in Amsterdam airport after the Dortmund game. No seat numbers on some boarding passes but after a bit of arguing they were told to wait (and wait) until the last minute and they got on in the end.
Shotts56 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 EU261 compensation levels apply if its a flight within or originating from the EU, in that case you would have got €250 a head compensation, plus put on the next plane. Not sure about a flight departing Istanbul though, you're probably at the mercy of Turkish Airlines goodwill.

macwomble Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Hate to cause concern but this fight overbooked yesterday as well. Saw 8 cases left airside as we departed! If anyone on this flight would suggest booking in online as soon as possible. Minimise the chances of being delayed!!!!!!
snoopyhill Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 You were right I went back and moaned a bit more but took a copy of Turkish airlines overbooking faq and they have given us 250 euros each. We have a form to hand over at any ticket sales desk within a year to get the cash
Dhowie5 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Happened to us when we went to Magaluf in the summer, 1 out of 18 of us never got on the flight due to overbooking! The lad had to fly via London several hours later, although he did get put up in the BA lounge.
weekevie04 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Off topic, but about 10 years ago when a few of us went to USA for a 21st piss up, our flight was over-booked. Mad scrammie, but we were four guys happy to take the $300 voucher for United Airlines, another night in Vegas, a free hotel $50 vouchers, - but there ended up one seat left for 14 or so folk over-booked. One man steps up to take the ticket. When asked his name - he replied 'Mr Bond'. Never seen a frantic area erupt into laughter as much. Anyhoos, hope you all reach Tblisi.

Glad I'm not pals with you lot
