Ferguson's Yard

Recommended Posts

Saw that story this morning. Great news. Gives stability for a few years for Jim McColl to continue the investment he's been talking about and his ambition of having a ten fold increase in the number of people employed by 2020. The commercial shipbuilding market is there to be accessed if we can have inventive entrepreneurs like him involved.

One of UK's most successful man can't make this work due to govt contact so Derek MacKay will do briliantly.

Not ideal but it's keeping people in work and shipbuilding expertise on the Clyde so better than the alternative scenario.

The government not bailing out failing companies

Yes, that's an option. In which case “The monthly dole bill for workers at the yard will now be met from Scottish government funds”. Not to mention the societal loss.

Why successful?

He wasn’t successful in trying to get more taxpayers money.  He was probably trying do some creative accounting for his own good.
