Toepoke
Just saw the report on Newsnight there. A perfect opportunity to shut the place down and move it to Manchester or somewhere a bit more central...
Mee
3 billion is a lot of money to save an old impractical building. Nothing lasts forever, they should cut their losses
TartanJon
Beutiful building worth saving.Hopefully the English can use it as their parliament in the near future.
phart
"Taxpayers may have to spend more than £3bn to stop Parliament turning into an unusable "ruin", Newsnight understands." Mu8st button up the back if you believe that.
tam fae kofta
They can sell it to some private developer and turn it into a hotel. Parliament can sit in Buckingham Palace (after all it is HM Government), plenty rooms there for the mp's offices and portakabins can be located in the parade ground if extra offices needed The banqueting hall can do for the commons. Good opportunity to get rid of all those coffin dodgers from the Lords.

biffer
It's a tricky one. A magnificent old building full of history, so it's worth saving. The cost is mind blowing though. As a metaphor, a decaying Westminster draining money from all over the country will not go unnoticed

Most of it isn't that old, just built in a neo-gothic style by the Victorians. At the time it must've seemed like Disneyland...

Good opportunity to get rid of all those coffin dodgers from the Lords. Best idea I've heard. Although they should build the new parliament in somewhere like Stoke, or Hull. Maybe then we'll see the wealth distributed a bit more fairly to those areas.
