Maq
Could it be on? Cameron in PMQs today says he tried to agree a date for a debate with STV, "but they seemed to run away" Surely he can't say he won't agree to a debate now?? Sky, BBC, STV, anyone - make this happen. Landslide for Yes!
Auld_Reekie
I'd still rather not. Yes going great guns at the moment and there's little need for us to put Salmond front and centre again. I can't see how Salmond would lose in any way but things are working well just now - absolutely no need to be taking gambles IMO.
Maq
And this is the response from an STV news producer
Maq
- absolutely no need to be taking gambles IMO. Fair enough, but I don't think it's much of a gamble... This is David Cameron coming up to Scotland, telling Scots they should let him run their affairs!
Auld_Reekie
Yeah, fair point. It's inconceivable that Salmond would come off worse. I just don't see why Cameron and No would even risk it without having something up their sleeve.
Govanhill Jacobite
Be interesting to see what STV say tonight, Surely cameron is not telling porkies here. AR, Either they have something up there sleeve or they believe they dont have a choice as they are losing
Auld_Reekie
A straight fight between Salmond and Cameron isn't the way they go about winning back momentum. Makes absolutely no sense.
Govanhill Jacobite
Could not agree more, but in saying that, they have done things in this campaign, which makes no sense at all
Dave78
A straight fight between Salmond and Cameron isn't the way they go about winning back momentum. Makes absolutely no sense. Makes sense if they have no other option (which they don't). Everyone expected Salmond to wipe the floor with Darling in the first debate, and he didn't. The Nawbags might be willing to risk sending Cameron up as a last throw of the dice.

They do have another option though and that's not to send Cameron. IMO, even listening to Cameron is a vote loser for No. Even if Cameron somehow won, there's not many in Scotland who wouldn't grudge voting for an Etonian Tory. If Cameron enters a TV debate with Salmond, they're trying to lose this.
Orraloon
If Cameron wants to debate we should be quite happy to accept his challenge but YES should put in Tommy Sheridan against him. That would be worth a laugh.
Govanhill Jacobite
Be interesting to see what STV say as maybe they think the media is in their hands so much, they tried to make it out like Just call me dave wanted it, but STV Scotland pulled it, so Not daves fault, No idea really as agree with Auld Reekie, if they put cameron up will be like they are trying to lose it
MacWalka
If Cameron wants to debate we should be quite happy to accept his challenge but YES should put in Tommy Sheridan against him. That would be worth a laugh. I'm not sure if it would win many votes but I'm sure it would win awards for best TV program.
Barney Rubble
If Cameron wants to debate we should be quite happy to accept his challenge but YES should put in Tommy Sheridan against him. That would be worth a laugh. Especially if George Galloway was the mod-orator.
Dave78
They do have another option though and that's not to send Cameron. I meant have no other option to win back momentum. Maybe it's their hail-mary pass/gamble button/nuclear option? Edited September 3, 2014 by Dave78
AlfieMoon
The only way Dave will debate at this stage is if they have a particularly strong ace card to announce during the debate in an attempt to make a big bang that would be expected to put Yes on the back foot. peever1745
There is a big debate on the 11th in the Glasgow Hydro, they never said who between though.Could be Cameron and Elain C Smith.
mariokempes56
Salmond should call his bluff. (If this is true of course)
snoopyhill
INDY REF: Cameron programme still on the table Following comments from David Cameron at today's Prime Minister's questions, STV denies it “ran away” from the programme and said the Downing Street proposal did not meet their requirements for full editorial control. David Cameron referendum programme still on the table, says STV STV says its offer of a programme putting the Prime Minister in front of undecided voters ahead of the independence referendum remains on the table. The statement from the broadcaster came as David Cameron claimed at Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday that STV "ran away" from the idea of a referendum show with him. Wine bibber
How can Cameron debate with Salmond when Cameron is still not involved in the debate ?
giblet
was never about Cameron v Salmond. Cameron agreed with STV in an interview he would debate with an audience of undecided voters only.
Redz
Dave has clearly got far too much on according to the BBC, as they've mentioned fukal of the sort.
ParisInAKilt
Can't see Cameron wanting to debate, it's a vote loser unless something dramatic happened. Maybe BT think they have nothing to lose that this stage . . .
Hessen
A month ago Cameron could have swanned in for a debate and claimed the glory of having saved the union; now the result isn't so certain I believe he is happy to let the Labour Party take the blame for it's break up.
