Another is Liam Delap via his mother's parents. Also eligible for Ireland on his father's side.

Not for me thanks. Parental qualification is fine, but going back to grandparents either brings you dross like Hirst or time-wasting tossers like Anderson and Hackney. I actually wouldn't mind a grandparent-qualification player if we had one that was committed to us right from the word go. Yet to see one though. They tend to need to be "persuaded". Again, not for me.

There is also Jason Steele, who plays for Brighton. he went to the World Cup as England's 4th keeper, but not officially part of the squad and is still eligible for us. He's 34 now so not a long term prospect but could tide us over for a year or two.

Some laughed when he never got thy England call.i thought fair play to the lad. He has no interest in playing for us, he is English, yet the media was pushing for an answer, but you could tell her was trying to be polite.

Hardly any of these players mentioned are good enough yet anyway, can't use Nations league games to cap these we need to go with our strongest squad available as finishing top 2 in nations league is key towards what pot we will be in for Qualifiers

I don't think anybody is saying that.

The likes of Binks, Ure, Hackney, Archie Gray would probably be closest to being picked for the senior team on merit (although whether the latter two would be interested is doubtful).

Others are completely unrealistic (e.g. Delap), most are young and need to be persuaded to keep with us as other countries see them as having talent (e.g Cademateri, Kyle Glasgow, Sassetti) or switch to us (e.g. Harry Gray, Jack Fletcher, Ben Nelson).

I'm not convinced that England are going to be trying to lure the likes of Lawrence away from us.

Good post though I hope Emelio Lawrence is quite committed to us through his mum from Airdrie. He's 20 now, so he probably needs another good loan spell. If he can get that, he's a potential senior call up this coming season.

Just seen a post about promising Celtic LB has been playing for our under age groups and is eligble for England and Italy as well, but despite playing for us he only has the Italian flag on his profile so guess if they come calling he is off.

Wilson has a lot of potential, but he hasn’t made good on it yet. He was a bit unfortunate as the fact that Hearts were chasing the title last year (well ahead of expectations) meant he got very little game time. In the end he went on loan to Spurs, who were impressed enough with him that they included him in a couple of first team squads, though he didn’t get on. They didn’t take up an option to buy though, so he’s back with us.

He was felt to be too lightweight when he first broke through. He has clearly done a lot of S&C work and he now looks built. We’ll have to see if he gets a chance under Vrancken. I fancy him to get a LC run-out tomorrow against ICT.

The bottom line is that he is still only 19 - won’t be 20 until March - and has played 33 games in the SPL, few of them starts. It might be a while before we know what direction his career will go.

I can‘t really see the Italians racing to cap a random LB for Celtic.

Maybe he doesn’t want a Saltire on his profile in order to appeal to a certain element in the Celtic support. Wouldn’t be the first time. Are we certain that was an Italian flag?

At the start of another sad season of Betfairing I caught myself wondering about Oxford Utd goalkeeper Jamie Cumming. Born in Winchester and played for England to U-19 level.

But could there be some sort of link? Probable turn out to be 5th generation or something, but...

Further to the James Wilson discussion: I watched the LC game at Tynecastle yesterday. He came on at HT for an ineffective Ba-Sy and impressed with his movement and link play. Scored a classic striker’s goal by being in the right place at the right time to follow up on a rebound.

On another note: given how weak we are at CB generally, I think we should be thinking seriously of including Luis Binks in our next squad. I hadn’t realised he was captaining Brondby. He might require a little ‘persuasion’ and that might sit badly with some people, but we need to deepen our pool there as much as we can.

I don't think he would need persuaded, he have an interview to the Herald over the weekend saying he wants to play for us and also said around this time last year that we wanted to also.
