jimmyhillshitman Posted July 30 Posted July 30 (edited) There has been a few posts like this over the years, but it might be time for a bit of an update. I was trying to compose 2 different lists. 1) Players who could realistically switch allegiance for this campaign and 2) young players who could likely be called up this campaign. I'm no talking about 16 year olds in the Arsenal reserves, more like the 18-20 year olds who are out on loan somewhere who could get a call up. Also the switching allegiance list seems out of date as people are mentioning Barnes etc in the last threads I could find. Word this week is that Archie Gray of Spurs could be patching England for us. Came from interview with Andy Robertson. Also, Daniel Bennie of QPR going on loan to Dundee Utd seems keen to swap Oz to us. If anyone with good insight to this could add a name please feel free to add and repost in the list Players who could switch allegiance Archie Gray (spurs) Daniel Binnie (QPR/Dundee utd) Young Prospects on brink of a call up Tyler Fletcher Man utd (has been called up already) Luke Graham - Stoke James Wilson - Hearts Ure - Sirius Bowie - Sassulo Barney Stewart - Falkirk Edited July 30 by jimmyhillshitman Quote

The players advised to you by Gemini AI; I use AI tools for fact checking. They appear amazing. In reality what they are amazing at is producing articulate looking nonsense. AI tools can be very frustrating & time consuming to use, such is their seemingly boundless capability to spew impressive looking utter rubbish. An easy way for a quick check of a player's international eligibility is simply to look on www.transfermarkt.co.uk. I don't claim that source is always 100% correct. I personally find though that its usually reliable. I trust it for player national eligibility far more than AI. If anyone is able to recommend an ever more reliable source, great. Just my personal opinion. To each their own. Edited July 30 by bahookie Fix typo Quote

Hertsscot Posted July 30 Posted July 30 (edited) Interesting from the Sheffield Star about Harry Gray who's on loan there: 'Bannan has already taken a liking to Gray after the youngster revealed he supports Scotland rather than England, while (Liam) Cooper and Gray have chatted Leeds.' I've no idea whether he'll be end up being any good but the more we have to choose from the better. If there's anything at all in this, he really ought to be in the next Scotland u19 or u21 squad. I said at the time of the Denmark match, anyone who was there would have witnessed just how passionate our fans are and how much it meant to play for Scotland. I just don't believe that you get them from England. Quote
glasgow jock Posted July 30 Posted July 30 James Wilson of Hearts - I'm sorry I just don't see it at all, to be fair I have never watched the lad play a full 90 minutes, but he just looks utterly bang average (at best) and thats me being kind Hopefully the lad proves me wrong though - maybe some Jambo's can give more detail on him ? Scots_Wha_Hae Posted July 30 Posted July 30 At the risk of opening a big can of worms, Harvey Barnes remains eligible. Others to add include Chris Brady (22, US goalkeeper), Luis Binks (24, English centreback), Ben Nelson (22, English centreback), Connor O'Riordan (22, Irish/English centreback) and Cameron Harper (24, US winger). Notable young players that are eligible include Dylan Leonard (18, Australian centreback at Schalke), James Overy (18, Australian right back at Man U) and Malcolm Niemann (17, German centre mid with FC Magdeburg U19. Literally no idea if he is any good but it's a vaguely interesting one). Jimmy Calderwood's grandson is a youth player in the Netherlands for FC Zwolle. 20 now and no real hint of first team football so probably not going to make it but you never know. Quote

UEFA changed the rules a few years back after the likes of Ireland were losing players like Declan Rice to England after they got something like 3-4 caps in friendly games. At the moment players can switch after 1 cap in a friendly, but 2 caps ties you down. Quote

My understanding is that: A player can play essentially any number of friendlies without tying themselves to a country (Barnes has played in 2) Playing even one single minute of a competitive match (inc. qualifiers, nations league etc.) ties a player down (Barnes has played none) EXCEPT if the player is under 21 they can play 3 matches (friendly or competitive) without being tied down so long as they wait 3 years from their last cap before switching allegiance (not relevant here) EDIT: the 3 year wait only applies following competitive matches so the exception was written in a confusing way Edited July 30 by Scots_Wha_Hae Quote

Flip side, I believe Tyler Fletcher is now fully tied to us because we played him in two games. Quote

FIFA documents are notoriously dense but they have got a guidance document for eligibility here: https://api.spoleg.com/storage/regulations/2021/10/K4JSTCfTOQdVAjU6KCQwKpxyZyAPcJLjWpkCm6ff.pdf Pages 30-32 confirm my understanding. bahookie Posted July 30 Posted July 30 My understanding on eligibility is(was?) the same as yours @Scots_Wha_Hae The document in the link you posted though is dated Jan 2021. https://api.spoleg.com/storage/regulations/2021/10/K4JSTCfTOQdVAjU6KCQwKpxyZyAPcJLjWpkCm6ff.pdf @wanderer Have you a more up to date source with different rules? Very interested to know. Quote

Very interested to know. Yes, I looked for a more recent one but there wasn’t one. Either the rules were updated but there wasn’t a corresponding documentation update or the rules have not changed since that update. I landed on the latter but happy enough to hold up my hands if incorrect. Quote
Arbroath1320 Posted July 30 Posted July 30 If Barnes was eligible to play for Scotland in the USA then he's still eligible now. Let's get real - Clarke would not have been speaking to a player who was not eligible. And... can we all please agree never, never, never to mention the name H***** B***** ever again? Quote
jimmyhillshitman Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 To be honest I would be mentioning Barnes again but as the above posts suggest I believe he is now cap tied. If he is not I'd take him under new manager. BTW big thanks to the people posting above, the knowledge on here is off the charts and shows the passion and commitment to the national cause. The annoying thing is any new manager or a care taker will want to win the nations league to prove they are right man for the job. I'd suggest the opposite is our best long term tactic. PATCH the nations league and use the full nations league as a method to cap tie individuals who will make the next generation of players. This is what Canada do and they are getting better (I'm based in Canada as many know). Side note. Two players who supposedly have Scottish grannies and are legit talents but I can't find confirmation are: Harvey Elliot of Liverpool Jason McAtee of Forrest Jack Hinshelwood Brighton Does anyone have info on the above? Anyway, seems a legit list of players who could change to or play for Scotland are as follows (not a complete list by any means): CBs Luis Binks Ben Nelson Josh Feeney Connor O'Riordan Dylan Leonard CM Archie Gray Tyler Fletcher Cam Bragg Hayden Hackney Tyrese Noubissie Malcolm Niemann Jack Fletcher LW Daniel Binnie Emilio Lawrence CF Harry Gray Caelan Cadamateri It could be argued that Robbie Ure needs tied down too as he's part Ukrainian. Anyone else think we should push the boat out to bring these guys in now. Invest in them and help them develop them and help push them in their careers? I personally would allow any manager to sacrifice the nations league prior to Euro qualification in able to tie down the above talent. Personally I think the Tartan army would accept this? How do others feel? Quote

Binks has already indicated that he'd be interested in a call-up, I think. Nelson has played at age group level for us before (I think Binks might have too, actually) so with a bit of luck he might be interested as well. Brady made the US World Cup squad although I am not sure if he has been capped by them yet. In any case, Pochettino looks like extending his contract with the US national team, so if he rates Brady that might not be good news for us. 50 minutes ago, Arbroath1320 said: If Barnes was eligible to play for Scotland in the USA then he's still eligible now.
