Sad news. Very good player, exciting manager, seemed a nice guy. 1982 World Cup they could really have done with him being fit.

That is really sad indeed. For anyone who got hooked on football in the 70s he was one of the best in the business. For all the ribbing he received from the Tartan Army he seemed to have a genuine affinity for Scotland and actually lived here for a bit IIRC.

Sad news especially for those of the generation that grew up with him being the most famous footballer in England 

Spookily the comedy channel are doing re runs of the 90s sitcom The Upper Hand and he played himself in an episode shown this morning

just watched an archive documentary on him a few weeks back when he was at Hamburg. Think he went there for the cash but didnt love it.

Is that the one that showed his big two hairy dogs?! Might've been old English sheepdogs. Came across really well in it. I saw it years and years ago but that bit has stuck (if it's the same one).

I knew it was coming, but didn't realise it would be so soon. Very sad news.

I was too young to know anything about it at the time, but it's hard to comprehend how on Earth my club (Southampton) signed him whilst he was the TWICE reigning European Footballer of the Year.

Apparently, Juventus and Real Madrid had already tried to sign him too.

Over the years, I've spoken to older Southampton fans about the day he signed. Astonishing... Absolutely astonishing. People struggled to comprehend that it was real.

yeah it was.

he made an effort to learn german.  Lots of it filmed in his home.  He had a business manager that sold everything with a kevin keegan signature on it 😂

think he was making piles if cAsh at this time.

my early memories were of him being a massive star and scoring against us at Wembley.

One of my favourite players as a young kid.

Always came across as a humble and decent guy.

Sad news, hard to believe he is gone so soon and so (relatively) suddenly.

I think he was one of the most likeable of opposition managers.

I seem to remember after his side defeated us in the play-off 2-0 at Hampden, he said something like 'the Scots have a mountain to climb, but the Scots like climbing mountains' which I thought was a nice way of putting it and made it easier to take. It felt like respect on both sides.

There's a scene in the Channel 4 documentary about that tie,'Cheer Up Kevin Keegan', where during a press conference an English journalist makes a snide remark about Scotland and Keegan goes through him, labelling his question disrespectful to the opposition (which it was).

He was a lovely guy and he'll be missed.

Seen some of the old clips of World Cup analysis on TV from the 70s/80s with him on it and he always came across as very well informed; considered and respectful.

One, amongst many, abiding memories of Kevin Keegan was him appearing on a TV programme (possibly a kids programme) while still with Liverpool, and him saying that he always tried to take time to sign autographs.

'it only takes ten seconds and you're making someone's day'.

A class act on and off the field. RIP Kevin Keegan.

He was full of praise for us after we played them off the park in the 2nd leg. He said something like “If Brazil had come here and played like that we’d be raving about it for years”.

A good guy who lived up here and opened his Soccer School place in Braehead.
