I stay pretty close to Scotstoun Stadium. The easiest way is to walk down to Dumbarton Rd (about 5-10 minutes) and then jump on a number 2 bus to Finnieston (another 10-15 mins) and you can then walk to the Hydro from there (you guessed it, 10-15 mins). There's also some really nice bars and restaurants in Finnieston if you've got time to kill and looking for something to eat/drink. You can also get either the number 2 or 3 bus from Dumbarton Rd and get off at Partick and then get the train from Partick to Exhibition Centre where you're 2 minutes on the bridge over the motorway to the Hydro.

If you're taking the option of going to Partick and getting the train, there's also a 400 bus that only goes as far as Partick station. Your nearest stop to get to is probably the one opposite the Tesco/Esso petrol station, at Whiteinch Bowling Club. If you're getting the bus along to Finniestion and walking over, the best stop to get off at is the one between Berkely St and Kent Rd (just outside Lebowski's pub). 60 mins should be plenty of time.

Think it's supposed to be a bit more low key though isn't it? There's certainly not as much money being spent on it and they've made nowhere near the same effort tidying Glasgow up for it.
Hertsscot Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Glasgow only stepped in 18 months ago after the Australians bailed out because of the cost of hosting a regular size games. It is slimmer down but may actually be a template for future games as the cost of hosting these type of sporting events is increasingly prohibitive for many countries.

Thought about not going as the weather had been so dreadful the previous night but glad I went. Legged it to the Hydro for the netball (thanks to Fairbairn for travel tips) and totally concur with your assessment. Great effort by the Scots girls, just didn't quite manage to capitalise on turn overs.

I caught a bit of Johnny Peacock saying it probably should be re-run according to the rules but the rules are rubbish. I'm no expert but it seemed to me the Mauritian athlete whose complaint was upheld was actually the one who caused the crash.

I did think I should have offered you a lift as you probably walked by my house to get to the bus but then had to put my car in the garage so good job I didn't!!

Different crowd to the football. All very civilised and appreciative of performance wherever competitors come from. We had a small contingent from St Helena in front of us and so cheered them on.

Hertsscot Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Well, that's it done and dusted. Must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Spoke to the mother of one of the Scottish finalists in the athletics, chatted to some Aussie netballers, went to both the netball and the athletics and loved watching it on TV, wish I'd got tickets for the swimming. I just think it was a pity that there wasn't more coverage on the BBC and if it was in Manchester or London I'm sure that would not have been the case but well done to Glasgow and all who stepped up to the mark to ensure the games went ahead.
