Although I think a lot of folk aren't reform voters, however they are susceptible to social media, well to be honest we all are. So the biggest users are most at risk. Reform are running on the already established culture war and so when those culture war talking points get posted here they are identified as reform. You notice titbits from "anti-woke" social media. A good example is Nolan's new film will be shit, raking in hundreds of millions and critically acclaimed last time i saw it had 97% on rotten tomatoes audience score as well. Only folk saying that were anti-woke folk like critical drinker and cause it had Elliot page and a black Helen of Troy. A black Helen of Troy is what perhaps the most influential film-maker of all time Orson Welles did in 1950. If you're going to make content about films you should know your history instead of leveraging culture wars for engagement just be a competent critic. But yeah I don't think that translates into voting for Reform they just have an overlap with them on certain issues. If you knew anything about the critical drinker you would know he made a video calling out all race swapping by the likes of John Wayne and other actors too, he isn't just about modern anti woke. I don't always agree with his reviews and I'll make my own judgement when/if I watch the odyssey myself but I'm willing to bet his review of the oddysey which was only posted yesterday will be spot on. Nolan's film will do alright because of Christopher Nolan, it sure is shit won't be because of the acting of Damon, Zendaya or Holland and definitely not Paige 🤣 Id rather listen to the likes of the critical drinker than main stream critics who are afraid to discuss certain subjects like why movies are all about virtue signalling nowadays and not about the actual story telling. Just like football, movies were something I loved but they'v been ruined By the way this was a really pathetic veiled dig at me, we will be the only people on the board who knows why 4 hours ago, phart said: Outside of the lab fact-checking isn't an endearing activity. It's also interesting that your one comment 3 weeks ago in the film thread allowed me to instantly deduce who you had been listening to. It's not a veiled dig. I was quite explicit. You have the gall to go pompous this and not got the balls etc that. Then when you get some back it's a "pathetic veiled dig". Need to harden up laddie too much mewling cause someone said something. There was backlash against the trailer which is what was being discussed context is everything, if you listened to what was said they compared the YouTube backlash to that of other films which bombed when the trailor came out. Have you thought about how ludicrous that claim sounds to a rational ear? Quote

Those words have been rendered impotent by at least a decade of smug centrist types dismissing anything and anyone who questions modern orthodoxy, and it doesn't even have to be from a right of centre viewpoint. His performative nonsense will get old fast if he and his government don't show signs of turning things around, and I'll be amazed if they do. The economy is knackered and socially the country is starting to strain at the seams. They have no coherent, communicable political strategy beyond capping bus fares and the like, and Burnham kidding on like a cheeky-chappy version of Starmer won't be enough to keep people onside. Also, despite, apparently, having the largest proportion of Oxbridge graduates of any British government, Burnham's administration appears to have no one of any gravitas at all. Maybe some strong performers will emerge, but I doubt it. . Quote

But yeah I don't think that translates into voting for Reform they just have an overlap with them on certain issues. Nailed it. Whoever controls the media controls the mind Right wing parties have a long and storied history of reeling in gullible people. The Nazis had "Socialism" in their name to fool gullible people into voting for them. You have Trump saying "MAGA" and :America First" as he adds $3.1 trillion onto the national debt (while adding $4.1 billion onto his personal wealth) as he tarrifs the shit out of his own people and having ICE shoot innocent people on the street. Now we have the Nazi brothers Nigel and Rupert using the prefix "Re" to lure in the gullible. As if both of them want to "Restore" and "Reform" things to the good ol' days. Glossing over the fact that 99% of the politicians in aforementioned parties were the Tories that created this mess. Then we have Nigel and Rupert who want to "stop the boats." Even though those bozos were the leading lights of the Brexit Party*. *Number of illegal immigrants that entered the UK pre-Brexit was 300-1800. It's been on average of 35k per year since Brexit. BoundaryFault Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Not much of a political comment -- I just think that it's interesting this was known as "Burnham's Folly". (OK, I think that the Two-Dimensional King of the 'British' Midlands would probably beat "Redactor Man" Swinney in a half-hearted fight, but don't ask me to justify that.) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20e5r1pvvdo Quote
giblet Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Burnham isnt coming across well so far from what I can see, patronishing pish about a second English Number 10. Quote
Saint4805 Posted July 27 Posted July 27 (edited) I was going to try and give him a chance rather than write him off before he starts. The casual gear and Northern thing doesn't bother me given politics is all performative BS anyway. All political leaders will have PR advisors and spin doctors. One thing I have noticed is that he's not a great orator and doesn't exactly come across as razor sharp. Quite a bit of umming and ahhing as he tries to think of the right word to say when he speaks. Liz Truss was the same and so it may not bode well for him. I can see Badenoch giving him a rough ride at PMQs. I think he'll get found out pretty quickly if he's not up to the job. phart Posted July 31 Posted July 31 If he can something useful with social care that is cross-party then fair-play to him. It is certainly one of the many things that needs addressed. Quote
Caledonian Craig Posted August 1 Posted August 1 More evidence backing up what my thoughts on him. Telling people what they want to here when he wants. The latest being on Infantino and FIFA. I bet though his tune would change if invited to a FIFA convention and he would start telling people in that circle what they want to hear. No doubt it is how he has set up this good guy image. Quote
FitzwilliamDarcy Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Let's see how many far right friends of Farage have ever or will ever take advantage of the following: National Health Service, Paid Holidays, Sick Pay, Pensions, Benefits System, Minimum Wage, Public Health & Sanitation, 37-40 Hour Working Week, Workplace Safety Laws, Child Labour Protections. Equal Pay, Social Housing, The Right to Protest, Free Education, Child Labour Protections, Maternity & Paternity Rights, Unemployment Support, Equal Pay, Social Housing, Environmental Protections, Public Transport, Clean Drinking Water, Food Safety Standards. Consumer Protections, Workplace Safety Laws. Let's see how many many far right douchebags will happily waive those socialist ideologies. Socialism is about helping others, fascism is about hurting others. A post WW2 poem about turning a blind eye to fascism: Quote
