It will be a different story come the first league game of the season. The same one every year.

They are now, the rules were changed in January

Was gonna say the same thing.  
 

United need to keep Leiper in the squad, he looks to have something, albeit his four games have been against lower league opposition. 
 

I hope they give Sassetti enough chances to persuade to stay for a year or two. Unfortunately, despite spending his whole life in Scotland I think his whole family is proper Italian and I imagine if they want him he’s there’s. 
 

Of course, he could well end up at Lochee by the time he’s 19.

Gaulds first is a shitty deflection but his second is a belter.

The Mini Messi needs to in our nations league squads. He deserves a proper chance with Scotland.

I'm quite excited to see what the next squad is going to look like. If we end up with an outsider as manager, they could easily make wholesale changes without even meaning to.

I could see the following making the next squad (if fit): Gauld, Burke, Morgan, McBurnie, Ure, Bowie, Bain, Nisbet, Porteous, Mulligan, Watt, Graham, Halkett, McRorie, Miller

That is 15 names just off the top of my head that didn't make the World Cup squad and it would be hard to argue against any of them

Yet to watch the highlights but saw Angus Gunn started San Jose’ 4-0 loss to Orlando City 😬 fingers crossed his defence was a nightmare and his fortunes improve

Feel that he could have done better on the last goal. His reflexes can be slow at times. Their last goal reminds me of the first Germany goal at Euro 2024

Agreed. Was thinking the same but wondered if I was being too harsh. Not much power behind the header and he was near enough to get more of a hand to it. 
On a positive note though, from the rest of the highlights I’ve just watched he made a couple of good saves to keep the score down. It could have easily been 5 or 6-0

That would be a serious overhaul. I can't see any new manager being that extreme,but there are at least 5-6 that shouldn't be the next squad. 

    Gordon, Hanley, Ralston definitely. Dykes , McLean , Hirst should have to start the club season very, very well to stay in. 

   Though that's only 6 from a squad of 26, which doesn't give a lot of space for new faces. The list of players you've given all have their merits, but I just want our new leader to pick players on form.

I mentioned in a different thread, I wonder if the new manager might be tempted to go with a bigger squad for this upcoming camp. We've got 4 games in 11 days so we'll need some squad rotations regardless but would also give him a chance to run the rule over more players

I think Gaulds chance has now gone. He is 31 in December and it would be hard to make an argument that he is a better attacking mid than McTominay or McGinn. You would have to play him out wide. We should be looking to bring in some younger options.

Morgan was never good enough and see above regarding younger options.

I think Burke would have been ideal for the World Cup but not going forward.

McBurnie is much of a muchness with the current guys like Hirst and Stewart. 

Nisbett has never and will never be good enough regardless of how many goals he scores against lower league Scottish sides.

Bain, Porteous and Graham have a chance depending on form.

Miller will be back in squads and should never have been out.

Halkett is injured and Watt / Mulligan the jury is out. Will very much depend if they can build on good seasons but suspect 2026 fixtures will come too soon.

Thats it for me...some players couldn't get out the squad under SC unless they were maimed, while others couldn't get in it regardless of how well they were actually doing for their clubs.

Hopefully this will be a fresh start for all of our players and the new manager (whoever that may be), gives everyone a clean slate.

Agree with almost all the comments on these fringe players. I think Mcburnie is slightly different style to Hirst and Stewart which I think makes him more suited to lone striker in international football. Stronger, better at holding the ball up and slightly better goal threat. Appreciate his international record is poor but that was some time ago, he is a different player and we are a different team. He is 100% not the solution to our problems but deserves a chance.

Agree, if we are looking to the future, unless players form we cannot ignore, we need to be looking st younger players to build on, Gauld, Morgan and Burke will all be around 32 Euros and 34 WC. 

Bains age again really hope some of the younger keepers kick on now.
