Ure is 22 & in his first season as a regular first team starter, he's doing exceptionally well, but that doesn't mean he could have been some kind of magical solution to our goalscoring problems in the WC. Ure is on a similar career growth path to Barney Stewart. They might be Scotland's future strikers but they might also fizzle out at higher levels of club football. Bowie, even though he isn't as good a natural finisher, is a more complete player and was extremely unlucky not to have made this squad. Ure, on the other hand, may turn out to be our best natural finisher going forward but he has to do it for a bit longer in Sweden or in a higher level League. Ah, ok then..Cheers ma man !! Quote

Ure is doing extremely well is the Swedish league , but let's see if it continues and it leads to a successful move to a better league. I don't think many are getting carried away about him just yet, he's just one of a number of young strikers we're hoping can step up. Quote

His awful Forest stint and finishing 17th at Spurs means there won't be European heavyweights falling over themselves to want to appoint him currently. So he probably needs a national team gig to boost his reputation up again as Poch is doing with the US. Whole nation now is craving manager who'll actually have a proper go in the next major tournament and there are two years of nations league and friendlies to do this. I want someone who'll just do logical stuff like Tierney at LB instead of Robertson who is past his best and shouldn't be guarenteed starter any longer. And direct wide players on both sides. Obviously Doak is there and now Findlay Curtis needs to be given run of starts. Ange has good experience of the Scottish game and how to handle the media and been international manager before so not something he'd just turn his nose up imo. Would've looked at McInnes aswell but that is off the agenda for a year at least so he'd more come into contention post Euro 2028. Other option would be to gamble on someone like Darren Fletcher although I don't think he'd have got anywhere near Carrick's results if he'd got the Man. United caretaker gig last season. However someone on another forum made a good point that Wales have no issue giving a recently retired player the job when they're still young and learning, Hughes, Giggs and Bellamy all got it in last 25 years when all three hadn't managed a club side. It amazes me the lack of respect that Andy Robertson gets from some Scotland fans. I don’t think Scotland have solved - or will solve - the conundrum of getting Robertson and Kieran Tierney in the same team, but I hope that Robertson continues to be our left back and captain for many years to come. I think ppl are disappointed that he hasnt led us out the groups during his captaincy. I also think he hasn't always played as well as we would have hoped Ppl expect big things from him but he isn't a game changing player. He's a fullback whos job is defend and he generally does that well enough. Ppl expecting him to win us games are looking to the wrong guy. I also think Tierney has games where he looks better going forward and that ends up giving ppl the impression that maybe we would be better with Tierney at left back instead. The Brazil game being a good example of this. I dont mind us playing Tierney and Robertson in a back 5 against top sides but many don't like that formation. Quote

It’s probably the least influential position in the whole team. He’s a top class player - one of our best ever - but there’s not much he can do to change the course of a match. Quote
DoonTheSlope Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I was very interested in Slaven Bilic getting the job when Strachans job was on the line as far back as post Slovakia 2016 (#bus8gate - if you know you know) up until Clarke got appointed in 2019 His career has fallen off a cliff since getting West Brom promoted though. His time at West Ham wasn’t exactly a roaring success either During Covid when I wasn’t able to get into Easter Road I’d often go down to West Ham, Man City or Blackpool and Bilic’s name isn’t exactly sacred in East London despite getting them into Europe. Am I right in remembering from drinking with a few hammers fans they went out to Birkirkara? possibly even 2 years on the trot His career since getting promoted with West Brom has been rank rotten having a quick look at his stats on Wikipedia Quote
giblet Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Really would like to see Josh Doig get a run of games now at left back. Robertson is on the decline, its been plain to see for last 2 seasons. Quote

Robertson has just signed for Spurs, an established EPL team who have the facilities and resources get into the top six in that league. after Robertson we have Tierney who IMO really should be at a higher level than Celtic Left Back is the least of our problems Quote

I think he was only lasting 65 minutes or less for Celtic. Even then, I don’t think he was playing all that well, was he? Difficult to tell in that horrendous Celtic team of last season, mind you. Promotion with Norwich and kept them up in their first season back. Then spent a few seasons with villa and kept them up in the epl. Hes struggled since then but the Scotland job isn't a hugely desirable job that pays big money so suggestions like Lambert aren't that outlandish. Quote
Super Gran Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Robertson's performances have generally been poor for Scotland. The fact he stated that he's played for us at times when he's only been 30% fit highlighted a big a problem. Certain players being played regardless of how unfit or out of form they are. There were plenty of times he clearly shouldn't have been playing and the coaching team should have known that. Quote
