No disrespect to mcglynn but I feel we should be aiming higher than him.

Undoubtedly but we all know the SFA will be all over an appointment like that!

I reckon McGlynn, Alex Neil and Darren Fletcher would be the top of the list in terms of likelihood.  I have not seen anyone mention Barry Ferguson, I was hoping he would have built a better resume by now.  Darren Fletcher has Sir Alex on speed dial and hopefully will have for a long while yet.

I’d love to see Alex Neill get it. I think he has over performed everywhere he has been.

He's a decent shout in terms of realistic targets. Would we be able to match what Millwall pay him though and would he want to leave club management for international management.

Hopefully the SFA take applications and do a bit of due diligence. We have no idea who could be interested, there might be some good applicants. Lets do things properly.

There isnt a single Scot that is appealing to me TBH. Id prefer to get an optimistic foreigner without the Scottish baggage that we usually get.

While Ange would be fun, I dont think it would be a terribly good fit. Im probably on my own here, but Roberto Martinez is the incredibly over rated.

I called for Alex Neil at the start of last season. I think his stock has probably grown since then but probably achievable from a financial perspective in terms of wages but Millwall would want decent compensation.

Yes.Alex Neil has got a good solid record.Wouldn't be against him being appointed at all.

Who's is the frame then?

Ange, Id take him. He was earning £5m per year at spurs and his contract was for £3m at forest but right now earning £0. I don't think he wid be in "happy just to be there" camp

Moyes, no thanks. SFA couldn't afford him anyway

Mcglynn, cheaper appointment but untested. Got a lot out of limited resources at Falkirk. This is who I think the SFA will approach

McCann - absolutely not. A crayon eater

Moyes had been one of my favourites for a while but my heart sank when I heard him interviewed about the World Cup the other day and he came out with the 'haven't got the players' trope. 🙄

In certain positions that's probably true, tbf, but saying so publicly isn't what you want to hear from a prospective candidate; if I was a player I might be disinclined to give my all for a boss who thinks I'm nae bloody good.

Moyes is also, essentially, a deluxe Steve Clarke. If Clarke is an M&S t-shirt, Moyes is a t-shirt knocked out in the same Asian factory, with the same materials, but with a fancy logo stuck on it and sold at three times the price.

John McGlynn is clearly talented, and if he was twenty years younger he'd probably be classed as a rising star, but he hasn't coached or managed at a particularly high level, neither has he played at a high level. His only experience of European competition, as far as I know, came during his stint as a scout with Celtic.

He could be brilliant, the players could take to him instantly, but with Scotland he wouldn't be coaching free transfers and journeymen, he'd be working with lads from some of the top European leagues; lads who've played at big clubs, played European football and played in major international tournaments.

Part of the reason I wanted Clarke as boss in 2019 was less for his successful stint at Killie than his time working with top pros at Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle. I felt he was a guy who could command respect instantly, and he did. I don't know John McGlynn but could he win over players who've played for some of the elite managers in the game?

Im surprised he hasn't been called up given our extreme lack of options upfront. Hopefully a new manager gives him a chance along with Bowie

I wouldn't be ditching Adams, getting rid of him would be stupid vbecause he's the only forward we have at a decent level

The rest arent up to much so I'd like to see Bowie and Ure in the next sqauds

Don't present it to him as being given a chance. Be fucking honest. 'son, you're already better than Dykes, and most of our other strikers. You can be the guy we structure our attack around for a decade if you work at it and take advantage of it. We have wingers who are already establishing themselves as able to put the supply in. This could be a special time for all of us if you commit. You can make yourself a legend'.

That's not the same as 'ach, we'll give you a shot son'

Not about a new manager, as such --- but wouldn't it be a good thing for whoever is El Supremo to be supported by a temporary all-round goalkeeping specialist -- someone who covers everything from genealogical research to scouting to keeper training --- to get to the bottom of one particular problem?

Which is why the SFA should be / have been all over Ure. 22 yo striker scoring buckets of goals in a decent league. The SFA seem to have this attitude of 'well if you don't want to play for us, ok' rather than trying to make people want to.

Where is Ure??

Top scorer in the Swedish league this season, unlikely to still be there after the summer as French German and English clubs pursuing him

Why was he not in the WC squad? That's mental !!

Given the grief Clarke got for being too defensive, I can't believe anyone would want the Ghana manager. He's well known for playing the most defensive anti-football known to man.

I think we'd been more convincing against Haiti and tried but failed againg Morocco, nobody would have complained about a defensive performance against Brazil.

And, he is 100 percent Scottish? Capped?

Far from it. I think most Belgium and Portugal fans feel the same.

I don't want to derail the thread as it's about the manager but this shows the situation is not quite as bleak as sometimes thought. Four years time one of the younger keepers (McKenna, McFarlane, Slicker) could be in consideration, someone like Binks or Mullen might be a possibility at the back, some of the eligibles might have decided for us (Gray, Hackney, other Fletcher), Ure or B.Stewart might be options upfront. There's a lot of 'ifs' but we might find ourselves in a position where we're missing MacGalacticos but are a better team.

Yeah, exactly. The good thing is it's a lot of 'ifs', rather than focusing on one or two guys and praying for them to turn out ok.

Think if Darren Fletcher applies and gets a reference from Sir Alex, then he will get it.

The SFA as we know them are always infatuated by people of Fergie's ilk.

I would not be against DF, and he would command respect for his Scotland playing career and achievements at club level.

It is a big step from Man U under age groups but other countries have tried it and succeeded.

Problem is, if does well in his time with us, big clubs will come sniffing with big offers.

That would be a nice problem to have!

We need to upgrade the level, Ange Postecoglu, Davie Moyes and Roberto Martinez are all a higher level of manager than Steve Clarke. In normal circumstances none are financially gettable, all 3 are probably Premier League level coaches, but each have links to Scotland and may be interested and available so we should sound all 3 out. We need to raise the bar here if we can.
