Where would managing Scotland fit into that? Ange has already done the Australia job (four years). He managed them at the 2014 World Cup (they'd already qualified) and won the Asian Cup with them in 2015 before resigning in 2017 after qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. The results during his era as Australia manager seem to be largely what you'd expect on a game-by-game basis. Quote

However, dependent on who Clarke’s successor is, this could be a very long season watching St Mirren and Scotland . I don’t think I could take another ‘meh’ appointment. There does seem to be actual talk in the media about the possibility of Ange being appointed. I know its all bullshit, but the very idea that he could be a contender is exciting. It would be a risky move because if the players are not up to his style of play it could be a disaster, but it would certainly confirm whether or not the players are capable . A World Cup and silverware. It couldnae have been easy right enough 🙄 Quote

And he might get a bounce out of being an 'outsider' (as discussed earlier) but who knows the Scottish game. Not sure the timing right now, from his point of view, but who knows? Quote
biffer Posted June 28 Posted June 28 The job is a damn sight more attractive than it was when Clarke took over. New manager has a team of guys used to qualifying and pulling of results to do so. A lot of young players with significant experience and other youngsters lining up from r teams across the continent. And, importantly, a very, very good chance at playing in the next Euros. Just need to be better than Wales or Ireland in qualifying. Quote

The SFA seem to have this attitude of 'well if you don't want to play for us, ok' rather than trying to make people want to. Quote

Barring a complete catastrophe(possible knowing Scotland) we should be going to the next euros and that has to be the selling point for our next manager. It might help us attract someone we might not normally be able to get. Ange postecoglu would be worth a shout but I would hazard a guess he will get better offers than we can give unless he wants a couple years out of club management. Hes a level or two above what we would normally be able to attract. The selling point of taking a football mad country with a proud history like ours to a tournament might tempt him and he's managed in Scotland so he understands our game. His English is excellent as well. Saying that I think he will have some good offers from elsewhere so it would very much be a long shot. Edited June 28 by mccaughey85 Quote
Clyde1998 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 The one positive is the new manager will have the relatively less important Nations League as their opening six games to get to know the players and work out their tactics before qualifying. The clear negative is we need to finish in the top two of our Nations League group to get into Pot 2 for qualifying and there's no guarantee of that in a group with Switzerland; Slovenia; and Macedonia. vanderark14 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Who's is the frame then? Ange, Id take him. He was earning £5m per year at spurs and his contract was for £3m at forest but right now earning £0. I don't think he wid be in "happy just to be there" camp Moyes, no thanks. SFA couldn't afford him anyway Mcglynn, cheaper appointment but untested. Got a lot out of limited resources at Falkirk. This is who I think the SFA will approach McCann - absolutely not. A crayon eater Quote

Yeh thats a great set of games for the new manager to prepare for the qualifying campaign. Good competitive games v decent sides who will test us. Could be a bit of a nightmare though if they go badly. Quote
Clyde1998 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Bet365 are currently showing: 4/1 - David Moyes 5/1 - Roberto Martinez 😟; John McGlynn; Ange Postecoglou 13/2 - Steven Naismith 7/1 - Neil McCann; Alex Neil 8/1 - Shaun Maloney 14/1 - Kasper Hjulmand 20/1 - Darren Fletcher; Scott Gemmill; Kieran McKenna 25/1 - Neil Lennon; Steven Pressley 33/1 - Marcelo Bielsa; Scott Brown; Barry Ferguson; Duncan Ferguson; Derek McInnes Wouldn't read too much into it at this stage mind. Im surprised he hasn't been called up given our extreme lack of options upfront. Hopefully a new manager gives him a chance along with Bowie I wouldn't be ditching Adams, getting rid of him would be stupid vbecause he's the only forward we have at a decent level The rest arent up to much so I'd like to see Bowie and Ure in the next sqauds Quote

We played some nice football under him and he has a good Cv in terms of club football. Certainly better than any of the other realistic candidates. I think hes been out of management a long time and is getting quite old so for that reasons I can't see it happening but hes worth considering imo. Alot of ppl will probably rubbish the suggestion but Strachan is a more sensible option than some of the other names getting thrown about. Quote

Who would be stupid enough to bet on Moyes at 4/1. Hes getting silly money in the epl and we need a new manager in the next month or two. Surely we would need to buy him out of his contract at Everton and offer him a decent contract ourselves. Only way we get Moyes is if he gets sacked and thats probably not going to coincide with the period of us hiring. Quote

I know nothing else of his credentials, but he talks a good game and is a passionate Scotland fan... Yep, has a natural intelligence about him and can speak. I think he would be good with players. He’s really brought Curtis along, too. Maybe Darren Fletcher on the coaching team as well. I’m also in the Big Ange camp. Quote

I called for Alex Neil at the start of last season. I think his stock has probably grown since then but probably achievable from a financial perspective in terms of wages but Millwall would want decent compensation. Quote

BoundaryFault Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Of the foreign managers I think I might go with Hjulmand / Sagnol / Postecoglu. Alex Neil would be the leading anglo-scot. And McGlynn would be the most humble and homespun. But he might just turn out to be the 21st century Willie Ormond. (There are one or scary names on the bookies' list, which I'll pass over without comment.) Quote
