del_boy1 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I made the decision not to go early on. I've a couple of mates from Texas going, and a couple of mates from here going out for the Haiti game. None of who normally go to games, which seems to be a big theme for this WC. I think everyone expected me to book eventually. My wife has now given up talking me into going (aka getting rid of me 😂). I just can't bring myself to give any money to FIFA, but that's for another thread. Anyway, I'm surprised how ok I currently feel about. No FOMO.....yet! I'll watch the first 2 games in the house with the family and then I'm randomly out to Prague for 5 nights where I'll watch the Brazil game. Never say never if we make it out of the group I suppose 🙄 Quote
TDYER63 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Funnily enough I was speaking to my old work colleagues today and they were shocked I hadn’t changed my mind . They were certain I would have caved in by now. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a tinge of regret especially after being at the game on Saturday and watching the 28 summers documentary. But I have come to terms with it and have organised to be in company for all the games. I have a different reason to you for not going so if we get out the group stage and play outside USA my children can forget their inheritance as it will be getting spent on last minute flights and accommodation ! I’ve already got my itinerary’s planned for watching them remotely That may change when the nicht afore and pre match parties are being posted on Facebook. That will change back again when I see the posts and messages about the prices Touching on your point about not being able to bring yourself to give FIFA any money, I feel the exact same way about the SFA Quote
KENTTA Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Yes. it kicked in when the EBC news tonight did a bit on 30 Thousand TA on their way to Boston. Might make it to the play-offs and beyond though......... Quote
radian_13 Posted June 7 Posted June 7 I couldn’t realistically go, my kids are still quite young. Financially and annual leave would have had too big of an impact on the family. Had my kids been older or not been born yet Id have went. I was gutted a few months ago knowing I wouldn’t be going but the reasons Im not going are realistic so does make it easier & I have come to terms with it. I’ll be watching the games with mates so all good. I went to Germany 24 and get next couple of Euros if we qualify. But a proper venture to another continent for a couple of weeks…..will need to wait another 10 years at the earliest. Quote
bonzo Posted June 7 Posted June 7 I do regret not going but I've never had any notion for going to America for any reason and definitely not trump's America. We got a new kitchen with the money we'd have spent so at least Mrs B is happy. Quote

Ally Bongo Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Not now Had already booked 18 days in Benidorm from Saturday 13th Apartment and flights were cheaper than tickets for all 3 group games Was trying every week to see if the Brazil tickets would drop in price but knew they wouldn't Quote
Wull the Gull Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Not in the slightest, after Trump said the British soldiers stood a little back from the front line in Afghanistan you couldn't pay me to go to the US. Quote
Tartan Terriers Posted June 8 Posted June 8 I decided ages ago that I wasn't going to be able to make it because it wasn't practical but had so much FOMO the last few days that I've been looking into last minute trips. Probably even less practical now but still tempted... Quote
Auchinyell Sox Change Posted June 8 Posted June 8 i decided very quickly after the draw / and the clamour for hotels in boston - the travel logistics and tickets prices basically confirmed my early fears - had a great time at Itly 90 & Germany 2024 (our perfomances aside ...) but no huge loss not going now - flying back to Scotland next week to watch our first 2 games - cheaper i think : ) ,,,,, Quote

Points level was still high for Euro 24 games and kids are both at school so can get back 1 or 2 away games a year from now. Just hope at the next WC as that’s doable haha. Is what it is, enjoy the US. Quote

Hertsscot Posted June 9 Posted June 9 When I was younger I always dreamed of going to the WC. I have the money now, I have the time now and if it was somewhere else I'd probably go. But Trump's America and rip-off FIFA. No thanks. I was there at Hampden when we beat Denmark and I can't see anything topping that. Quote
SY Cove Posted June 9 Posted June 9 I'm the same as Hertscot, always dreamed of attending a World Cup with Scotland playing, I had just turned 19 when France 98 was on, couldn't afford it back then, i had flights/hotels booked for USA but cancelled recently, I work in the middle east (Iraq) and haven't been able to travel back since February, working from home on reduced hours/rate, so couldn't justify the big expense, seeing pals heading off makes me jealous and all the clips on social media but the way the prices have spiralled out of control for everything is absolutely awful Quote
DoonTheSlope Posted June 11 Posted June 11 As expected felt I felt a wee disappointed today. I was listening to something on radio in the work about it and was actually thinking to myself that I’m sick of hearing about it and I’ll be glad once we’re knocked out for a minute Quote
del_boy1 Posted June 11 Author Posted June 11 Return flights out next weekend for the Morocco game are only £490! If the price of the match tickets resembled anything near normal, I'd be all over that. The thing is, if the flights were £900 and the match ticket £100, it would be the same overall price and I'd pay it in a heartbeat. But no chance I'm giving FIFA £500 for a game of football. Madness. Quote
Redz Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Haiti tickets on here for c.£350 I think £840 in total with the flights you've referenced £160 under what your prepared to pay What are you waiting on 😉 Quote
DoonTheSlope Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Felt a wee bit envious earlier when I awoke to a photo of a friend who was at what appeared to be an official office paying homage to The Honourable President Donald J. Trump Quote
Rdalt Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Starting to strongly consider flying out last minute if we get through to the round of 32. Do we think it’ll be just as busy or has everyone fully committed and blown all their cash for the group? Quote

del_boy1 Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 I'm now thinking the same. Book up if we qualify. However, if we qualify in a poor 3rd position, it will be logistically difficult given we may not know where we're playing until 48 hours before. I also see the tickets are currently over £1k on the resale market! Quote
