NorthSeaToRockies Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) Everyone and their dog, it seems, has made a World Cup song this year. Naturally, we can only assume this is purely to get behind the team and country — and absolutely not to make a quick buck... That said, I saw the following article ranking the top 2026 Scotland World Cup songs, but the methodology didn’t feel nearly scientific enough. So, looking back at World Cup songs of years gone by and classic Tartan Army favourites, I’ve gone ahead and ranked a selection of the 2026 releases myself. Each song was scored out of 5 across the following criteria: Singalongability (Can thousands of fans instantly join in after one chorus?) Tartan Army Spirit (Does it actually feel Scottish and capture the mentality/mood of the nation?) Goosebumps Factor (Is there a big emotional payoff?) Staying Power (Will people still sing it in 5–10 years?) Cringe (A possible -5 for collective second-hand embarrassment) Oor-o-vision 2026 Rankings Song Artist Singalongability Spirit Goosebump Staying Power Cringe Total Notes The Very Unofficial Scotland World Cup Song JJ Bull 2 5 2 3 0 12 "Hampden Park kinda sucks" - LCD Scotsport No Scotland No Party (2026) Nick Morgan 3 3 0 3 -1 8 A rehash of the unofficial 2024 Euro song but still works. Never Stopped Dreaming Skerryvore 3 3 2 1 -2 7 Captures the hope and romance of qualifying. Slightly Christian rock though. Scotland's on the Way Bucks' Bravehearts 4 2 0 2 -2 6 Perhaps the natural successor to the Andy Cameron WC songs We're Made in Scotland from Girders IRN-BRU 2 3 0 2 -1 6 Bonus points for Super John McGinn and a breakdancing SuBo The Saltire's Back (Ole Ole) PG Ciarletta 2 3 0 2 -1 6 Objectively fine. Subjectively? Just not for me. Home Nathan Evans 3 1 1 2 -3 4 Low-hanging fruit Gun Alba Gun Ghaol 2 2 0 0 0 4 A Gaelic metal World Cup song is very niche. It Only Takes One Lion Belle and Sebastian 1 2 0 1 -3 1 Feels like someone learned about football earlier this week. Scotland Are Going to the World Cup John Edge 1 2 1 0 -3 1 Bit too much for me Bonnie Wee Team Calum MacPhail 2 2 0 0 -3 1 Och Aye! Go Scotland Go Just The Brave 2 0 0 0 -5 -3 Warning: Cannot be unseen or unheard Which are your favourites?? These rankings will remain unofficial until The Proclaimers re-release Letter from America with a subtle World Cup lyric change and immediately win by default. fraz65 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 (edited) I think the Belle and Sebastian one is worse than Go Scotland Go. "You can join an army that's for peace". FFS. Edited June 3 by fraz65 Quote
Gemmill78er Posted June 3 Posted June 3 You only need one song. And it may as well be the rap version of Steve Clarke's Army. As for ratings for songs, you either like them or you don't. Though some may be liked or dislike more than others. Best Scotland song for me remains Viva Scotland: Quote

Fur Posted June 3 Posted June 3 (edited) Biased towards Scotland’s on the Way because it’s my mate but can say at least it was just made in good spirits for a bit of a laugh and in memory of a friend and huge Scotland fan. There are so many I don’t think any one will really catch on, really didn’t like Nick Morgan’s effort for the Euros which everyone seemed to love so what do I know anyway? Edited June 3 by Fur Quote
ceudmilefailte Posted June 5 Posted June 5 No Scotland no party is the only one I know the words to. Quote
Haggis_trap Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Thanks to original poster for a great list: This AI monstrosity deserves a mention. So bad it is good. Also a terrifying insight into what robots can create for man kind. Kind of like a 1980s Heavy Metal Scottish football anthem. Quote

Gemmill78er Posted June 6 Posted June 6 I'm still standing by our attempts: A familiar tune updated and bringing it back to its American roots. An unashamed slice of cheese that may or may not have been influenced by listening to too much questionable Italian pop music. And a medley for the hell of it. Quote
